I have been binge watching all your videos! I'm learning so much from all your videos. I just started my own mobile business. I wanted to ask you about what polisher to buy first for one step polishing. I have had my eye on the Rupes duetto with 12mm throw and 5" backing plate. Would this be a good first polisher to purchase for my 1 step jobs? Thanks for any recommendations

Thank you for the kind words and the support. Personally go for a G15 or a G21 they have an amazing warranty and are amazing machines. the duetto is also a nifty machine. But I would personally lean towards the G15 G21 or a Rupes 15 or 21. search online facebook, craigslist. etc you can find great deals on used machines sometimes. I recently picked up a Griots Garage 6 Inch polisher for $60 brand new in a box on Facebook.

Another way to explain it with the spoon and shovel concept would be, you can be more detailed when digging with the spoon rather than using a shovel. The shovel would be used to quickly dig up more area as the spoon would be used for more detailed digging.

The first section pass in typically best case scenario of the cut/finish you're going to get (with the compound/pad combo) because pad is fresh and you primed/buttered it heavily so theres a HIGH amount of active ingredients working on that first section.. For the subsequent sections, you reduce the product to 4-5 drops (there is some level or paint residue, and pad face isn't as crisp because of some product saturation) and that area is bound to give you less cut (than the first section because of lesser abrasive involved). In the early days, when I thought my test pass gave me satisfactory results, 80% of the times I had to change the combo (pad/compound) as I moved to 2nd/3rd section because of results being lower than my first pass.
In your case ofcourse you were going to do a one step, so thats fine.. But when doing a two step in an effort to have swirl free finish, my point above would come into play and that one needs to keep checking results and improve the conditions (pad cleanup, change pads etc) to keep getting consistent results..
Let me know what you think about this ?

I disagree on the first pass. Although he primed the pad, the abrasives needs to migrate and establish themselves. The second pass(after cleaning on the fly) is always the best pass for cut and finish.

I made a comment on your other one step vid, I like your style and the way you make your vids. I am a part time detailer (weekends, have FT job during the week) and pretty much an HD guy, but thinking next time I visit the store, ill try their creams.

On a one-step do you go for maximum correction on maximum shine?

I know this comment is old, but I'll respond. It's about finding the best combo that removes defects and leaves a great finish at once. All about test spots
