I remember seeing all of these episodes air on Nick when they were "new premiers" back in the 90's. I recall the Powder Toast Man episode along with the Museum one, definitely one creepy show that I loved as a kid.
Honestly, I csnt decide if too enjoy or hate this show. Like, it is entertaining, but it taps way too much into psychological horror. Never knew about double header, but it pretty much is the human centipede with ren and stimpy.
Right, I was in the same boat as a teenager... It had some legitimate laughs, so you wanted to like it, and were willing and wanting to overlook all the blatant attempts to psychologically damage (only a very slight exaggeration). The producers of this were some truly deranged, possibly demonically possessed individuals, no joke. UNREAL that they were airing this monstrosity for children, much less the general public.
You know that Geroge Liquor is one of John K's favorate characters. Heck, he even got the character back from Nick after he was fired, along with another character of his, Jimmy the Idiot Boy, and they got their own webseries and everything.
It can be difficult to separate the artist from the art. Mr. K and his team combined innovative animation which on first glance seems childlike. A few seconds in the first episode and onward from there, this duo (Ren Hoek, asthmatic chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat, whose voice is a tribute to Larry Fine from The Three Stooges). The pair meet in a shelter and escape right before being euthanized. Somehow a lifelong loving bond is formed and the two spend the rest of the series trying to make their way in the world, through a series of nightmarish scenarios. Somewhere along the line they get their own home. We are not told how they managed this, and in fact their home disappears when a plot requires them to be down and out. There was so much sophistication and deep dark humor poured into this show. I am grateful that it survived as long as it did. I am tired of typing but you have an episode based on Syd Nathan from the Al Kooper tapes, and the fabulous sequence of Ren decimating George Liquor in an homage to Raging Bull. As a body of work, R&S was earth shaking when it first appeared. It should still be regarded as the fantastic achievement that it was. As an aside l am very weary of our current societal trend of negating artists on the basis of their personal behavior. **All artists are human, and generally flawed more than most**. Sadly we live in an age where the public feels entitled to know everything about an actor, musician, or whoever. There is no mystery here anymore, and for some reason it is also "necessary" now that we know things about artists in the past. WHY?
I gotta fact check. -Man's Best Friend was banned from airing on Nick but did air on Spike TV in 2003 with the reboot. -Powdered Toast Man Vs. Waffle Woman was probably banned for a bit after 911 but I'm pretty sure it aired on MTV in 2016. -The others I doubt were ever banned. Yeah Hermit Ren and Double Header are dark but they probably were retired in the early 2000s.
Uhh, Hermit Ren and Prehistoric Stimpy were never banned? They’re even on Paramount+, in addition to Powdered Toast Man vs. Waffle Woman, which I can only assume has now been unbanned
Yeah, I said in the video that PTM vs. WW was banned for 17 years and got unbanned. Also, most of these episodes were ran on Nickelodeon a few times before Nickelodeon pulled the plug on them and removed them from rotation. Also, here's a comprehensive list of episodes that were banned from airing on Nickelodeon/censored. Hermit Ren, Prehistoric Stimpy, and PTM vs. WW are on the list with reason for being banned cited. renandstimpy.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_banned/censored_episodes#:~:text=Hermit%20Ren%3A%20Banned%20by%20Nickelodeon,disturbing%20nature%20of%20the%20episode.&text=Ren's%20Retirement%3A%20Banned%20by%20Nickelodeon,to%20heavy%20references%20to%20communism.

Omfg idk why but I never realized until now that the DEAD BODY FRIEND was a dead body 😭 I just thought it was a scarecrow for some reason 😭😭 I was banned from watching this show as a kid so I never even saw most of these episodes until now. This show was out there for sure 😭
That sucks. I was allowed to watch anything except sex scenes. Ren and Stimpy was a major part of my childhood. All of the "risque" stuff went right over my head.
I’ve actually seen Double Header on a dvd (I think a whole season where it was from) and on Nick Toons. When watching Ren and Stimpy on Paramount+, it wasn’t on there. After watching this, I can see why it wasn’t on there
The Ren and Stimpy DVDs weren’t even from Nickelodeon themselves. They were from MTV/SpikeTV as the DVDs have every single episode of the show including the ones that Nickelodeon have banned.
I have Paramount+ pretty much just for Ren and Stimpy and the Twilight Zone. You can't buy the seasons of Ren and Stimpy anywhere at the moment aside from dvd but I gotta be able to watch it at any given time. It's the greatest cartoon ever and when I'm having a bad day it hits the spot.
I was born in late 88 and I just avoided this show because it gave me the creeps. I had literal nightmares because of this show. I never knew until I became an adult, just how crazy the show actually is.
I was also born in late 88. But this was one of my favorites. Even my old man liked it, which I thought was wierd cause why would a grown up get genuinely excited for a new episode of a kids show?
There's an episode where they were in the desert and it turned to night and they got eaten by some bug things and it left their corpse or something like that. That terrified me so much for some reason then my mum watched it and told me it isn't for children and I didn't watch it again.
Ren and Stimpy is a surreal classic. I like the video, except I had to keep the cursor on the volume control. The audio of the R&S clips was too low and the narrator voice was too high. I had to keep readjusting the volume, annoying. Suggestion: Learn to normalize or level-out the audio throughout the whole video, before you upload it. I still gave you a thumbs-up, because I like the content.
I'm so old I remember watching all of these on nickelodeon during the 90s. Ren and Stimpy was the best, along with Rocko's Modern Life which also had a TON of suggestive content in it.
I guess Hermit Ren wasn't permanently banned from all syndication because I recall when I watched some Ren and stimpy on Hulu several years ago I actually remember the anger, fear, and ignorance part of that episode. I guess maybe it was just banned from TV but still available on Hulu back when Ren & Stimpy was on Hulu which I believe it isn't anymore I could be wrong. Ah yes. Double Header must be where Cat Dog came from. 😂 And hey I'm Sean as well. Well it's actually spelled differently. Very nicely done video especially from such a low subscriber count channel. I for one understand how it feels to actually put out a quality video and still have a very low subscriber count. Actually that's why I can I just gave up and just focus on making react videos and live streaming games because it's a lot easier to do and less time consuming to put that content out. But I have plans for an elaborate Sonic movie review that I hope to upload soon and Family Guy Theory video which should be a more original video that I have plans about as well.
i was gonna say that i feel like catdog was created to push RaS further aside since it was already too much for a children’s show on a children’s network . that show is corny imo
I saw Man's Best Friend before it was edited (and it was!) George Liquor introduces himself as "George Liquor, Ugly American." which is a reference to the novel "The Ugly American" by William Lederer and Eugene Birdick. This novel depicted Americans as brutish, incompetent and ignorant. The drill sgt is a composite of drill sgt characters in a number of movies and tv shows including Gomer Pyle, USMC and Full Metal Jacket and other evil drill seargeants in pop culture. Th drill sgt's antics are a throwback to The Great Santini, which is about a Marine officer's abusive behavior towards his son. It is also a reference to the attitude of Greatest Generation parents to their anti-war children. The prancing with a shit-cigar at the end is a reference to many characters in movies of the 60s who chomped on cigars as a way to show their dominance--from movies like the Cincinnati Kid, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and In the Heat of The Night. All these various references, which many young adults (such as me and my friends) who watched the show before going clubbing, were what made the show adult-friendly and kid friendly. So many R &S episodes were chock full of references to the pop culture milieu we grew up in, so it made watching the show fun for both kids and adults, although for different reasons. This thin line walking is what made shows like Rocky & Bulwinkle popular in the 60s and were what J.K. was going for. He knew the intersection of adult and kid in a particular way at that particular time like no other (unfortunately he also relished the negative aspects of men of his generation who came of age when being a dick-swinging asshat at work and swinging batchelor at home made you The Alpha Male. That way still exists, btw.) This changes however when J.K. is dismissed from the show. We then have a variety of writers, often headed by Bob Camp, who did not have a flair for incorporating pop culture references for grown ups. The show goes off into the scatalogical -- the potty humor for potty humor's sake-- direction. This is also when adults stopped watching. It makes me wonder who actually watched those shows because they are joyless and lack the absurdity of the original episodes. Maybe it appealed to the tween guys who were of the "s*ck it" WWE generation-- which was pretty awful itself. Nickelodeon should have just canceled R&S after the first Bob Camp written season. It's unwatchable.
In all honesty I grew up watching Ren and stimpy, I grew up watching all the original Nickelodeon cartoons I watched and saw every episode you explained in this video when it first aired before it was banned. Thank you so much for putting this stuff up I'm glad that somebody took the time to revisit stuff from my childhood. Ren and Stimpy, was so ahead of its time and got such a bad rap but I think it was an awesome show, but then again I grew up watching Beavis and Butthead every Friday night on liquid television when MTV's had liquid television. Thanks again keep it up.
This show really messed us up as kids, I was watching the original run on late night TV. Incidentally after watching this show a new show eventually premiered called Doug. All I could think about was how many voices in the show were used in ren and stimpy, most notably Doug and Roger.
I'm not sure if it was banned in the 90's or later than that, but it supposedly got banned at some point! Here's a list of episodes that got banned by Nickelodeon/MTV as well as censored episodes if you wanna check it out! Some of the episodes on the list surprised me because I can recall seeing them air before they were banned/censored lol. renandstimpy.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_banned/censored_episodes#:~:text=Hermit%20Ren%3A%20Banned%20by%20Nickelodeon,disturbing%20nature%20of%20the%20episode.&text=Both%20episodes%20are%20available%20on,Powdered%20Toast%20Man%20vs.
I grew up with the season boxsets, and I was surprised by how some of these that I really enjoyed growing up were banned, especially the Waffle Woman episode, that was one of my favorites when I was little
LMAO I love this cartoon. It inspired so many cartoons that came after it well into the 2000s. All less warped, all less funny though. By the way, most of these seem to be post-John K episodes. I know that John K has (or had) a cult following that espouse his first season above all others, but all my faves are Bob Camp joints. Fake Dad is comedic genius. Yeah, it's John K AND Bob Camp. *MEAT!*
So many of these were on at 1/2am... I remember them! They were TOTALLY awesome. My best friend Dave H. And i would watch them together and laugh till dawn. 😲
Thank you for putting the video out. The banned shows were just more art work, GREAT PURE CREATIVENESS, Ren and Stimpy was an off show to start with . FUN , God bless🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I can say I've actually seen both Hermit Ren and Prehistoric Stimpy as a kid (EDIT: pretty sure I also saw Powdered Toast Man fight Waffle Woman too lol). I remember as an adult rewatching a few episodes and thinking, "Wow, they let me watch this stuff?" When I asked my dad about it, he started laughing till he cried, saying he loved watching me explain the jokes, as I understood them, to other adults and all of them getting a good laugh at how much went over my head. Paternal inspirations lmao
My favorite show of all time, so much beer came out of my nose watching it. Thanks for that fellers! I really wish you'd have just let the things run without talking the whole time. Damn dude wtf?!
When you think about how PC and outrage addicted our society has become, it's hard to imagine that I used to watch this on Nickelodeon as a little kid. Actually, it's pretty insane that this was a show made for kids. However, it's still, without question, one of the greatest shows ever created.
I grew up on bugs bunny Popeye and such in the 50ies and 60ies. But when I first watched Ren and Stimpy I laughed my butt off. We had Chihuahuas and cats growing up.
The first 1.5 seasons were clever and occasionally brilliant, but it quickly degraded into just being pointlessly gross. I can't watch more than a couple minutes of any season 3+, it got so tedious.
Even tho Ren and stimpy was one of my favorite shows, I have to agree that it's creepy asf, not only does the imagery creep me out but the creepy music is what makes it so unnerving and uncomfortable
What's surprising to me is that other than Man's Best Friend, these are (I think) all episodes from seasons 4 and 5? Thus, they were made after the creator was fired. I loved Ren & Stimpy as a kid and think I still do, but I hadn't seen Man's Best Friend and the last seasons until I got them on DVD. Man's Best Friend didn't phase me then, but it doesn't look like an episode I'd enjoy, now. I barely remember seasons 4-5 and I've since gotten rid of the DVDs except for the season 1-2 set.
Thank you SO MUCH for watching! What's your favorite episode of Ren and Stimpy?
Mine has to be Hermit Ren lol.
Mine is Ren Needs Help
That is definitely in my top 3, & I also love Powdered Toastman Vs. Waffle Woman.
Stimpy’s Invention, Sven Hoëk, and Son of Stimpy. I can’t decide.

I remember seeing all of these episodes air on Nick when they were "new premiers" back in the 90's. I recall the Powder Toast Man episode along with the Museum one, definitely one creepy show that I loved as a kid.
Same
did you like ah real monsters and courage the cowardly dog
@@whatever305j Of course, Courage was one of my favorites. Specially the Doc Gerbil's World episode is one that always stands out.
Honestly, I csnt decide if too enjoy or hate this show. Like, it is entertaining, but it taps way too much into psychological horror. Never knew about double header, but it pretty much is the human centipede with ren and stimpy.
Yeah it's sort of like you didn't know you hated Nickelback until somebody told you that you did.
@user-kg7fl3kn5r
Crap, they got you fooled too. The world is not what it seems, kg7fl3kn5r...
At 7:33 I can safely say that I can understand why ren did what he did.
Yes sir, those were the days, yes sir.
I was an adult watching these shows, and I didn’t think they were aimed at children at the time.
You know that Geroge Liquor is one of John K's favorate characters. Heck, he even got the character back from Nick after he was fired, along with another character of his, Jimmy the Idiot Boy, and they got their own webseries and everything.
Didn't George Liquor appeared on one of Adult Swim's commercial skits not that long ago? The animation style and voice was all there
He was also the mascot of the company.
George is clearly Elmyra(sp?) from Tiny Toons but 10x worse. Elmyra was naturally stupid. George knows what he is doing.
WHY?
"Prehistoric Stimpy" definitely aired on Nickelodeon. I remember seeing it several times in the 90s.
True! I recognize that episode, even though it must've been (over) 20 years ago.
Yeah i seen it alot
" *HEMORRHOIDS..... REAL BAD HEMORRHOIDS..* " Wilbur h cobb: 90s
I appreciate you for looking in the deepest darkest part to the internet just to find footage for us you are well appreciated by me.
@@DuskTillShawn I wanna tell you something this is on possible I don’t get why
It says... on my tv
Monkey no see monkey and fake dad? And why did they add PTM
In there?
It’s a little Werid

It was I love chicken And PTM Vs WW I don’t get why it was the second episode to come on it
17:43 Oh my Gee! Stimpy was the Imposter! No seriously, the Stimpy organism looks like a crewmate from Among Us.
stop.
Oh god now I can't unsee it
Omfg idk why but I never realized until now that the DEAD BODY FRIEND was a dead body 😭 I just thought it was a scarecrow for some reason 😭😭
I was banned from watching this show as a kid so I never even saw most of these episodes until now. This show was out there for sure 😭
Right?! As a kid I totally didn't realize it was a dead body either! lol
I was also not allowed to watch this until I was like 13
That sucks. I was allowed to watch anything except sex scenes. Ren and Stimpy was a major part of my childhood. All of the "risque" stuff went right over my head.
I knew it was a dead body, but it was still funny as hell to me, because my humor can be dark sometimes. 😁😂
This show was bonkers
I have Paramount+ pretty much just for Ren and Stimpy and the Twilight Zone. You can't buy the seasons of Ren and Stimpy anywhere at the moment aside from dvd but I gotta be able to watch it at any given time. It's the greatest cartoon ever and when I'm having a bad day it hits the spot.
I was born in late 88 and I just avoided this show because it gave me the creeps. I had literal nightmares because of this show. I never knew until I became an adult, just how crazy the show actually is.
😆
I was also born in late 88. But this was one of my favorites. Even my old man liked it, which I thought was wierd cause why would a grown up get genuinely excited for a new episode of a kids show?
I was born in mid 88 n definitely watched this show along with rocko Doug n them
I was born in 88 and watched this every chance I got
There's an episode where they were in the desert and it turned to night and they got eaten by some bug things and it left their corpse or something like that. That terrified me so much for some reason then my mum watched it and told me it isn't for children and I didn't watch it again.
This show...I am honestly surprised it was allowed to air. It makes some adult cartoons look tame.
1:26 I think inapproriate human is the good term. All what he did is not acceptable and we don’t want remember that because it’s too much
Hermit Ren is back on the air, or at least it was in 2011-2012
It's 2024 and I am a Very Mature Woman, however, Ren and Stimpy are STILL and WILL ALWAYS BE A CLASSIC 😹😹😹
I'm so old I remember watching all of these on nickelodeon during the 90s. Ren and Stimpy was the best, along with Rocko's Modern Life which also had a TON of suggestive content in it.
Surprised the episode about hanging people wasnt featured. Even includes a song called "The Lord Loves a Hangin'"
And hey I'm Sean as well.
That way still exists, btw.)
This changes however when J.K. is dismissed from the show.
The dinosaur episode makes sense to me the museum guy lists dangerous things.. Running with scissors and you die xD
If these episodes were so bad , then why did I LOVE them soooo much as a young boy. 💞💞💞💞
As a child of the 90's I remember watching edited versions of quite a few of these.
I saw Prehistoric Stimpy on TV back in the 90’s
Sponge bob is a sanitised version of R&S, exact animation style and everything.
Ren & Stimpy, were HILARIOUS!
When I was younger:
Mom: you cant watch this
Me: moooom, it's a dog and cat. What's bad about that?
20 years later when rewatching: ooooooooooh
This show really messed us up as kids, I was watching the original run on late night TV. Incidentally after watching this show a new show eventually premiered called Doug. All I could think about was how many voices in the show were used in ren and stimpy, most notably Doug and Roger.
I remember watching the first one with george when i was a kid in my living room
5:00 aint no way ☠
why did i find this narration so funny
Hermit Ren wasn't banned from Nick in the 90's.

The episode where they get attached is proof they were CatDog before the real CatDog 🤣
NGL, I fucking loved those episodes!
"Man's Best Friend" makes me think of stuff like early Swans albums, sick sick sick vomit inducing power relations.

That Stimpy prehistoric cell looks kinda sus
My youngest daughter and I used to watch this show when she sat on my knee to watch. Now she's 32 and we still yuck it up remembering their episodes.
Love Ren and Stimpy! I still quote both of them from time to time. There will never be anything like this cartoon again.
There was also an episode banned for powdered toast man burning the US constitution
It wasn't banned, per se, they just cut that part out. As John K. said, "Censoring a joke about censorship."
... He wasn't trying to get them to do push-ups, he was paper training them. Since they're pets.
This show was so weird/funny but also entertaining when I was a kid👌😂
I love these episodes so much. Ren and Stimpy is my favorite cartoon of all time.
I grew up with the season boxsets, and I was surprised by how some of these that I really enjoyed growing up were banned, especially the Waffle Woman episode, that was one of my favorites when I was little
That was very entertaining! Thanks for this1
LMAO I love this cartoon. *MEAT!*
I loved those episodes. They aired on Nick back in the day 😂. None of this content should have been censored.
I love Ren and Stampy even as a kid the humor was fantastic and the animation was great.
10:47 Fun Fact the dead guy is Tollund Man, one of England's most famous bog bodies.
Lol that's going a bit far dont ya think?
This. It’s drained creativity out of almost all television shows and movies now. And it’s all so performative.
Have you ever considered not being a huge bigot?
I'm a parent of 3.... The Stomping Time bit at 4AM freaking killed me
I grew up on bugs bunny Popeye and such in the 50ies and 60ies. But when I first watched Ren and Stimpy I laughed my butt off. We had Chihuahuas and cats growing up.
I watched Ren & Stimpy as an adult. And I really enjoyed it. This show definitely not for children.
The first 1.5 seasons were clever and occasionally brilliant, but it quickly degraded into just being pointlessly gross. I can't watch more than a couple minutes of any season 3+, it got so tedious.
Actually, I'd say season 2 is just as great as the first if not better.
17:43 Among us Stimpy
Ah the 90s when we lost our minds dropping California Sunshine and putting on a Ren &Stimpy VHS tape tripping away
I was so tuned in as a kid. I even took the oath. Put your hand on the tv and repeat after me. That’s why I’m screwed up today.
These remind me of Courage the Cowardly Dog!!
Hermit Ren was my favorite episode by the sheer creepiness
