- One of the first things we'll need to know if you contact RPS is the static water level of your well. Today Mike goes over five methods, ranging from makeshift to professional, to measure your static water level. They are:
1.Visually
2. Dropping a rock and measuring fall time
3. Fishing line and water bottle
4. Tape measure with weight
5. Professional well measuring device

The Equation Mentioned at 2:10 --
D = 0.5 x 9.8 x (T)^2
D refers to the Depth of your well, and T refers to Time in seconds that it took for your rock to hit the water. This equation will yield the depth of your well -- your static water level -- in meters. To convert to feet, multiply that by 3.28084.

Excellent instructions easy to follow.
Thank you! Great video, just what I needed to learn now.
Glad we could help!
Very informative, thanks for the presentation
Glad it was helpful!
Great Job
Thanks Travis!
please, can I extract the height of the water level from the formula (h= elevation of earth surface - depth to water) ? and thank you so much.
Thanks
what about on a shallow well pump, just install vacuum guage on pump head and take a reading then multiplying by 1.21 x the reading.
Is it possible for 500 meters depth well?
Can you use the 300ft. tape with a weight method with the pump in the well still or would it get caught ?
Probably but be carefull. I would use a smaller dense weight and use electrical tape to cover any sharp edges that could snag.
Do you mind if I link this video in an ArcGIS Story map I am creating?
sure!
No mention of depth?
Well levels change with climate change. Is there something that you can setup in the well that would be able to monitor water level through a meter so we can check water level at anytime while the well pump is installed
Can use ice instead of a pebble?
Yeah, great idea! Most guys don't have ice out in the field, but if you have some available, that would work just as well.
a remark like this is why I love the internet---what a great idea!
Great idea!!!
This well has no pump or whatever in it so measuring the water level should be easier. Looking for a video that has pump
