      From what it sounds like is Marty is listening as closely as Hugo but prefers to do just that. Listen. I think the praise is team wide though, Hugos making that abundantly clear. Eternals success is idsoftwares success and not just his accomplishment

    Im pretty new to Doom. I had D3 for the OG Xbox and I played the 2016 campaign twice a couple of years ago but I gotta say that Eternal has improved my gaming tenfold. I started at I’m Too Young To Die and have made my way up the difficulty ladder. Just finished my Ultra Violence run and I’m already looking forward to Nightmare and UN. Just gotta say thanks to Hugo and the team as well as all of you content creators for opening the doors and letting us casuals learn from the best.

    I like how Hugo talks about changing the aesthetic because it was annoying to die to an enemy you couldn’t see properly because it was dark and there was smoke… then they added smoke sections to Eternal anyway.

    I finally understand why some people said DOOM 16 became generic after a while. DOOM Eternal forces you in the fun zone, but in DOOM 2016 you have to do it yoursefl a little bit more. I always played how I was supposed to play, so I never had the feeling it became generic, but now I get it.
    The weird thing about it is: Why would you keep using the supershotgun if you get bored? Wouldnt you experiment with your weapons and stuff automatically?

      Two years late, but I have an answer to your question, at least from my experience: Doom 2016 was the first Shooter I've ever played. Not the first FPS, but just the first shooter. I actually bought a Switch just to play 2016 (I know, but I travel constantly because of work, so any other console/PC made no sense).
      Like a lot of people, I landed on 2016 because of the music.
      Hugo himself says it in one interview; if you're skilled (like I think you are) you immediately start weapon switching and doing cool things. If you're a newbie (like I was), you just find an exploit that works and stick to it. Particularly if you're playing on console, and specifically on the Switch... Swapping weapons/grenade types is already awkward with a controller, but it feels next to impossible if you're not even used to playing shooters.
      It took me a while to get used to Eternal, but now I honestly can't go back to 2016. No dash, no mearhook... And I freaking loved 2016!
      Eternal is just that damn good.

      I'm definitely late to this, but I legitimately could not stand Eternal almost entirely due to the ridiculous lengths they go to railroad you into their designated "fun zone" and had to mod out basically every single change they made to push that barring enemy weakpoints, because those made sense. Bumped the movement speed back to 2016, got rid of the stupid chainsaw crap, nixed the small adds in every fight, and increased ammo count by 4x. The game was fun after doing that, because I wasn't micromanaging every encounter. I could *go with the flow of combat* instead of the "GET IN WHAT WE DECIDE IS THE FUN ZONE OR FUCKING SUFFER" that Hugo pushed so damn hard.

    There's a few tips in the loading screens that tell you about weak points as well as weapon swapping for more dps.. but I agree we should really have a better system for newer players who aren't into the community.. at the same time I do see how the progression of doom eternal will eventually cause you to seek better ways to play/ at least interest you at the very least in min maxing. Thanks for the video, really enjoy hearing about the moving parts that made eternal possible. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and the devs rock. Really bright future for DOOM in 2021 man I'm loving it

    16:24 I like his definition of “brainstorming.” Less emphasis on just throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks, more about building on ideas, bouncing them back and forth higher and higher. The important thing about a wide-open ideas session is culling the bad out, and doing it in a positive way by elevating the good ideas instead of just denigrating the bad ones is important. It’s the fun-zone of group based creativity

    Hugo is a national treasure - I love watching these interviews. When I got Eternal, I would never had thought I'd stick with it for over 200 hours, countless streams and youtube videos. Big part of it is Hugo and the team interacting with the community, showing their love for the game and showing presence. Thanks for the video, can't wait for the rest!

    I used to believe that something such as liking your job and being extremely passionate about it is just a corporate lie. But when you hear Hugo talk about Doom and Doom Eternal you can really see the love and the passion behind every question he answers and every insight he gives. I will work as hard as I can to find my Doom Eternal.

    i really love the fact that Doom eternal is not a generic sequel to Doom 2016 ,it has its unique style ,atmosphere and gameplay loop ,it just makes you appreciate both games simultaneously creating one of the greatest video game duology.

    I just re-played RE4 (although the XboxOne re-release but IIRC it is the same game just graphically touched up slightly). Def still holds up, great game.

    I will always like the marauder because its what made me learn to quickswap. Started with ssg ballista, then PB ballista, PB SSG, PB Rockets, PB Sticky bombs, and now PB rocket Double lock on burst PB Ballista

    I feel like the the chainsaw (which is one of the main ways this game drives the player towards its “fun zone”) would be better if it wasn’t on a cooldown timer, which is what I think they were looking to improve on by making the hammer

      I have noticed that many players even the pros, make the mistake of collecting fuel cans before the meter fills up. Wait until the meter fills then pick up the cans. You will start noticing that you almost always have a chainsaw ready when needed

      There are ways to make it so that players can’t spam the ability, they could make the requirements for getting the ability take longer for the player to accomplish. The tasks for getting the ability should also be requirements that promote the “fun zone” gameplay of doom eternal, which is what the chainsaw promotes the exact opposite of and requires you to wait around for the cooldown timer to finish if you need it

      My take is that he's wrong for saying people are playing it wrong by having a preferred weapon.

      @@senounatsuru6453 he's moreso saying you aren't playing to your full potential by limiting yourself to one weapon (important to note limiting yourself to one weapon is not the same as simply preferring a weapon). The equivalent is 'if you're playing Super Mario Bros and you don't use power ups, youre limiting yourself".
      It might sound wrong or harsh, but I really do not buy into the "there is no wrong way to play a game" mantra. This game was designed to play a certain way, and if you deliberately go against what the game is going for, then yes I would say you're playing it the wrong way (or at least you certainly aren't playing it the right way). You're well within your right to do it, but don't lie about it.

    DOOM Eternal is the most video game FPS game to ever release
    Now that may sound redundant, but most AAA FPS games always go for realism and DOOM Eternal obliterates all of that with its colors, the gameplay, the action, etc. etc.

    I don't think this feedback is gonna reach anybody, but on the subject of quickswapping, on my first playthrough, I noticed it was much slower than in Doom 2016 so I actually figured the developers were trying to push me *out* of weapon combos and focus more on individual weapons. It wasn't until my second playthrough after watching some footage of people doing it that I figured it out.
    Needless to say I did not like the game on my first playthrough. lmao

    The reason you don't shoot the marauder more than once is because the game conditions you to to expect those fucking wolves to appear if you hit him any other time. Do away with the wolves, and you would never have needed the stun hint.
    I think Hexen had one of the most tedious enemies in all first person shooterdom, you get to have one hit on a centaur, then he is completely invincible from all angles for 2 seconds and does an automatic counter. They are supposed to make you think in a similar way, but they just slow the game down, especially when they throw a whole room full at you.
    The Marauder isn't as bad because he's a more dynamic and less predictable character, but he does have that sense of "oh for fucks sake, here we go"
    Now if the game had given you some subtle way of figuring out weapon swapping before you ever meet the marauder, players would have taken one look at his attack pattern and gone "oh you think you're bloody clever do you" and known exactly what to do.
    I think it's the Shigeru Miyamoto philosophy, there is a skill in tutorialising a game feature in such a way that the player learns it without even realising they are being taught something. And also not bombarding them with tutorial messages every 2 minutes ;P

    17:00 no body can blame people for not learning quick switching on thier, specially if they own.
    I used to try this on my own on every game, when I started gaming, and used it alot. But game starting fixing this exploits, even if they released with quick switch mechanics, they would end up being patched, so I give up trying arroun 2014/2015.

      Truthfully episode 2 is done and 3 will be in a day or so. But not my call, has to be approved by bethesda first. Cant speak for tyler and his uploading pace but for me this video was done a week ago. So, with that said i hope they get approved soon

      No it’s actually console gameplay, its my HDR settings. Early in the video im playin on pc which i dont use any shaders just small teaks of colorblind plus in game render mode. While the ending gameplay of TAG1 is all console HDR settings

    Hugo feels like a solid blend between John Romero and Sandy Peterson. Which i know Peterson catches shit for ugly levels, but damn did he know how to make combat interesting in most cases, IE Fortress of Mystery plays like garbage if youre playing it like a normal Doom level instead of making the Barons and Cacos fight each other.
