How to Live Stream Your IP & HD-TVI Security Cameras with OBS! (Three Methods)

  • Live streaming your security cameras to Facebook, RUclips, or Twitch is easier than you might think! All you need is a computer with an Internet connection, reasonable upload speeds (at least 3Mbps), and the free open source streaming software, OBS.
    DOWNLOAD OBS: obsproject.com/download
    Over the past few months, we've been streaming our security cameras to our private dealer Facebook page. We've gotten a good response to those live streams, but we've also gotten a lot of questions regarding our streaming process. In this video, we show you exactly how we stream our security cameras through OBS step-by-step. There are three methods for you to choose from.
    METHOD ONE: DIRECT STREAMING VIA RTSP
    One of the easiest ways to get up and running with your security camera stream is to add your camera as a media source via its RTSP address. There's no middleman, no extra equipment, and little-to-no setup time. Keep in mind that this method is only compatible with IP cameras.
    METHOD TWO: SCREEN RECORDING WITH A BROWSER
    If the RTSP feed is too unstable, or if you're wanting to stream an analog security camera, you can always pull up your camera's web interface, throw the live view into fullscreen, and stream you desktop through OBS. The downside to this method is that it takes up a lot of computer real estate. Unless you have multiple monitors, you won't be able to use your computer while streaming.
    METHOD THREE: RECORDER STREAMING WITH A CAPTURE CARD
    The third method isn't for everybody, because this one does involve purchasing additional equipment. But it's also one of the most stable ways to stream your IP or analog security cameras. Simply get your hands on an HDMI capture card, feed your NVR into the device with an HDMI cable, and pull the capture card into OBS as a video source.
    OUR HDMI CAPTURE CARD: amzn.to/3p857Qd
    Whatever method you choose, you'll be live in no time! Happy streaming, and as always let us know if you run into any issues!

    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! My sanity is restored! After searching in many places and watching several other videos on the subject, it was only from watching this video that I realised I had the syntax of my camera's IP address wrong. I had a full-stop (a.k.a. "period") between Username and Password instead of a colon.
    I've used VLC player in the past to access the same camera when away from home (having already assigned static IP address to the camera and set up the appropriate port forwarding), and the rtsp address I used had a full-stop between the Username and Password, which worked flawlessly. It seems that for OBS it has to be a colon.
    OBS picked up the stream almost immediately once I had substituted the full-stop for a colon.
    Thanks again for an all-round excellent video. 👍👍👍👍👍

    I've got a recording studio where I record music and my band rehearses. I've thought about getting security cameras for the studio, and the house in general. So I have thought about getting cameras that saves to a cloud and I can access them at anytime either from my computer and phone. I don't really like leaving my computer on if I'm not using it. So one that is wifi capable to say to a cloud is what I was thinking of going for. My brother has a security camera set like that, that he can check from his phone or tv. So I'm assuming that if I get a wifi capable cloud security setup, they probably have a website or something that I can log into to view the live stream from my computer? Then use OBS to stream the website? The reason I explained all of that is because my band likes to live stream our rehearsals. If we didn't do that, I'd just go with a set of wifi capable cameras and not worry about it.

    So is there a trick for going layer 3? Or with a domain name? My OBS is in my office, and I want to stream a camera that is available with a domain name on a public IP at a remote location. I do not seem to find any info on it. If I create a tunnel, it works like layer 2 would, but thats not doable for every site. Otherwise this video was real helpful, and Tyler does a good job!

      You could do a window capture using OBS with all 3 of your cameras pulled up. Or an HDMI capture device connected to an NVR that has all 3 cameras on it. Then have OBS pull the feed from the capture device.
      If you are just wanting to remote view your cameras, you may look into their app instead!

      In this video, the camera is on a separate switch on the network.

    9:01 it's bits per second, not bytes per second. They actually mean different things. For example, that's 6 Megabits per second, not 6 Megabytes. You can convert one to the other though. 6 Megabits = 0.72 Megabytes. Not even a single megabyte. So you can imagine why it matters. Of course context does help, but it's best to use the correct terminology if you can.

      Good question! As long as it has an RTSP Stream, or if you have access to a web interface. Then technically yes.
      You may need to reach out to the manufacturer to find out that info.

    When I stream name tags and crawlers get masked by the video. How do I get the name tags and crawlers showing pls

    • @NellysSecurity

      What are you referencing as name tags and crawlers exactly?

  • @glasshalfempty1984
    @glasshalfempty1984 4 месяца назад

    6:47 that is not quite right. Higher resolutions will typically be at higher bit rates and therefore higher quality. What you will run into, however, is a bunch of buffering issues if you don't have enough upload speed. And that makes the stream worthless.

    Can you use Ring camera.

      If Ring cameras support ONVIF, then technically yes! We just do not have a Ring camera here to test ourselves.

    Why do i need software why not just enter the stream code RUclips gives?

    • @NellysSecurity
      @NellysSecurity  Год назад

      Without the OBS software, where would you put the Stream Code from RUclips? NVRs and Cameras usually do not have the option to directly stream to a website without some additional help like OBS.

    7:15 I just really have to stress that lower resolution does NOT mean higher quality. That is going to confuse a lot of people.

      Most cameras nowadays come with their own Software & app. You can certainly use that instead of the streaming method we used in this video. This video is mainly directed towards anyone that wants to livestream their cameras to the public or groups of people via youtube, facebook, twitch, etc.

    In particular, even watching videos is as difficult to understand as sending a satellite into space. And you keep saying it's so easy and simple.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣We are living in the 21st century with a simple application IP cameras should be able to broadcast live in social media I think
