    Thank you for your review and comments. This is going to be my first course in the OMSCS program, and I appreciate you shedding some light on what’s about to come!

    Hey Brian, What do you think it'll be like if this is the first course in the OMSCS program?
    for context i'll be working 40-50 hrs/wk. Only planning to take this class. Background is in Python (~6/10, 10 being I can make meaningful contributions to Open Source Projects) and familiar with AI concepts, primarily through self learning. Lin. Alg and Calc III is a bit rusty though.

      I do think that it may be a bit of a difficult starter course. AI is definitely a more time-intensive class, and if you are working 40-50 hours a week for work, it will be a lot of time. I would recommend taking an easier course your first semester just to get adjusted to the work/life balance (or lack of it lol)

    Hey Bryan! Thanks for these videos. What 2 classes would you recommend for the first semester for someone planning to do the ML specialisation?

    • @vincentpisano6440
      @vincentpisano6440 3 года назад +3

      EVERYONE recommends only taking 1 first semester. I took KBAI and thought it was a great first class. Maybe DVA or CN or ML4T if you can get in are other good first classes

      @@nikitaanand2617 I did AI4R and AI, Ethics, and Society ! I enjoyed it, but was hard to balance with work. If you don't have a full time job, it'll be a breeze

    Hi Bryan, thank you for the review. I took AI4R in the summer semester which I found medium to easy. I know python, calculus, linear algebra, and probability. I never took algorithms and data structures. Do you think this would create a big problem for me?

    Having taken both AI and AI4R, would you say I should focus more on brushing up on LA, probability, or any other math you recommend or focus more on getting python fluency?

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  3 года назад +3

      For AI4R- Linear Algebra is more important than probability. For AI, probability is more important (linear algebra isn't used at all)

    Im taking ML4T this Fall semester and I considering this to be my next course. I feel like difficulty is not super increased compared with ML4T? what do you think?. I did had a lot of fun in ML4T and I feel confortable with Python. However, I am worried about the amount of time I am expected to spend compared with ML4T

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  Год назад +1

      I found AI to be harder but could be just because I took it before ML4T

    Hey, which pc did you use to get through the course? If it was M1/M2 mac, did you have any issues with the environment setup?

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  Год назад

      so as a disclaimer, this was 2 years ago. At the time, i think it was recommended to use intel macs (which I had). I was using a 2014 MBP at the time. But nowadays, M1/M2 mac's are more and more popular, so I assume it is updated/or being updated to have more support for these apple chips. I'd recommend checking out the latest syllabus to see how it looks

    Thanks for your thoughts on the class! These videos are really helpful.
    I know this is kind of a dick move but would you mind giving my personal statement a read? I've had it written up for a while now and kinda scared to send it off, partly because I haven't been able to get any feedback on it. Your thoughts would really be appreciated and you'd really be helping me out!
