@@josiah3820 The scripture before “Jesus wept” (John 11:33), says Jesus was deeply moved and troubled. So, I think you’re both right. He was moved with compassion and troubled that He would be leaving soon and they were pretty much clueless and therefore unbelieving. He knew their assignment after He was gone and they weren’t getting it.

It was just after looking at his mother that he wept. (At least on screen.) On seeing the grief all around him it looks like he has suddenly taken on board the grief that his own loving mother will feel during and after what is to happen to Jesus himself.

The shroud of Turin is actually his entire body and face. Showing signs of every scourge, nail, crown of thorns, swollen eye from being beaten. It’s a miraculous artifact of our lord’s existence. It even shows his resurrection in the light force it created at the second he came back from death.

My initial reaction was the character is the embodiment of Satan, observing Jesus' power over death, the thing Satan fears the most. This is the last of Jesus' public miracles and immediately precedes the week that marks Satan's downfall (the redemption of believers and resurrection of the first fruits). He must stop Jesus at all cost. If I'm correct, you'll see him frequently in the coming episodes leading to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

She saw one glimpse of Jesus healing the leper and that was enough for her to bring her paralyzed friend to Jesus and trust that he will be healed even when Mary ask Could Jesus have stopped Ramah death Tamar say ask Jesus again showing that she goes to the Lord first and then again at Thomas’s show down she say we were called to see and believe the stone be rolled and the burial strips. I love that Martha says openly, "I'm trying not to be angry." How many times have we all felt that way at some point in our faith-walk? Such a great line.
I always thought Jesus wept, mainly, because He knows that this is the miracle that starts the countdown to His death. We see in the Garden that He is overwhelmed by His impending doom and that He would like "the cup" to pass if possible. Churches always point to the Garden as the point where Jesus starts freaking out, but I think it was in this moment that it fully hit Him.
To add to this, I believe that Jesus was an extreme empath. He's fully human so He's attuned to His own will, needs, desires, and body; He's fully God so He has direct connection with God and Holy Spirit and therefore He's attuned to the spiritual world. And finally, Jesus always seems highly aware of people's thoughts, desires, and emotions (due to His spiritual nature). Now, imagine knowing that:
    1. You're about to die horrifically and this next thing that should be a wonderful moment is going to be the very thing that starts the countdown to your death.
    2. You're in front of this group of people who have become your friends and you may or may not know that they are going to die horrific deaths because of you.
    3. You're an extreme spiritual empath so you FEEL every emotion, can hear every thought, and feel every pain that they're feeling due to the death of their friend/family member.
    4. You've in spiritual warfare with the heads of your people's faith, and you're angry about how twisted they have made YOUR laws and hurt YOUR people.
    5. Your body is tired from literally "running" from the law, traveling everywhere imaginable by foot to minister to people, possibly without eating or drinking at regular, healthy intervals due to various circumstances. Not to mention the toll it probably took to heal people day in and day out.
    6. You're an introvert that is consistently required to be around people with no break. Anyone who is introverted will tell you that alone is a nightmare.
    7. You're frustrated that your disciples, you're children, still don't understand what you're trying to tell them.
There's so much more that Jesus was dealing with, but those points alone would make anyone cry. Heck some of us only have *one* of those (minor) things happen to us and we have major breakdowns. Yes, Jesus was God, but He was also a man who, I think, suffered consistently throughout His life. I think at this moment everything hit Him at once and it was just too much.
Someone also made a beautiful point once and I always hung onto it: that Jesus wept to show that He cries WITH us, that He hurts with us. I think this had something to do with it, as well.

Excellent commentary. Thank you ❤ The scene was one of the “over the top” well done scenes in The Chosen so far. For me: the raising of Lazarus is second only to the walking on the water scene. I think the hooded figure is someone sent by Atticus to report back to him. For that matter, it could be that the hooded guy has been sent by Gaius, but that doesn’t make as much sense bc why wouldn’t the Romans just be there in full regalia if they had a chance? Maybe he has been sent to spy for a Pharisee like NIcodemus or Yusef,or even Shmuel.

Thank you for addressing my comment about Laz not being resurrected vs risen from the dead. (Maybe others commented too) I know you are using "resurrected" for the sake of "ease" but let me explain to listeners the difference (for those who don't know).
Laz was risen...meaning is spirit was United with his body of flesh and blood. (Same with the 12 year old girl that Jesus raised from the dead.
Resurrection is when our bodies, after death, are reunited however our blood is replaced by a fluid that keeps us alive forever. Never to die again. Resurrection is a promise made to ALL who have ever lived on this earth whether good or evil. What a beautiful gift for ALL Gods children! ❤

Maybe the guy in the hood is a bandit, who has stolen and perhaps even murdered. He sees Jesus raising Lazarus, which might lead him to believe. This may cause him later, when he is crucified alongside Jesus, to profess his faith and ask for forgiveness. He becomes the so-called 'penitent thief' in Luke 23:38-43. It explains the hood and his furtive behavior, and his presence here at the raising of Lazarus gives a plausible backstory to his repentance.

Just some observations: I guess since Jesus and the disciples were not carrying lots of clothes they didn’t wear black.
I was pretty appalled that the lawyer was talking about their private business in front of a guy! At least Martha shut him down, she didn’t look too happy…
Reza has been so great as Philip; he seemed to keep a positive air when they were carrying the Roman armor, praying the Psalm with his hands raised, and his reactions are so good, he fits right in, his acting is right up there with everyone else’s.

Well, let’s think about it…Dallas DOES have some kinship/affinity towards the thief on the cross (he made a short movie about it). However, he wouldn’t (have any reason to) be covering himself. Saul/Paul got his assignment in Jerusalem after the crucifixion, and didn’t have any first-hand knowledge of Our Lord…however, Luke came to be Paul’s traveling companion, was a successful non-pharassic lawyer and physician (which might explain his rings, possibly a seal). The thief changed his mind on the cross, I.e. didn’t seem to have witnessed anything to that magnitude, but had heard about the reputation of Jesus, and felt his presence on the cross. Anyways…God Bless You All In Jesus Name.

If Dallas Jenkins was very smart and intuitive about who to include in this portion of the gospel portrayal. Then I believe the cloaked man is possibly The Rich Young Ruler, now no longer rich, no longer a ruler but definitely a young man determined to follow Christ. The identity of the RYR according to the early church historian Eusibius is John Mark the writer of the book of Mark which is Peter's version of the gospel dictated to John Mark. This is the only book of the gospel to have the young man who is the former RYR in the garden of gethsemane with Jesus and the other disciples. Now, having given away all that he has according to Jesus' command, he now only wears a loin cloth to show his poverty to the world and absolute dependence on Christ. Mark is the only gospel to contain this version of events as the writer of Mark who is the former RYR input this unique event from his perspective as well as he joined the group late in Christ's ministry.
