    It gets overlooked today because we've had 15+ years of wireless gamepads, but the OG Xbox pad had a really long cable, unlike any other console. This meant that you didn't have to place your console on the floor just so that you could play on the couch, and you could tell that it was designed by people who actually played console games.

    I'll always appreciate the Xbox line for essentially picking up were Sega left off and not allowing Sony to take a worldwide monopoly in console gaming. Not to mention that the XBOX series of consoles has had some phenomenal games that totally changed the industry. People can say what they will about Microsoft but their presence in the industry has done a lot of good for gaming overall.

    I am just glad to see Microsoft not giving up on Xbox despite the last generation being an absolute beating and draining millions. But I think they kinda needed a reality check, after getting too cocky with so many anti-consumer decisions with the Xbox One. Now I think they are positioned very strongly to deliverer us another great 20 years.

      I may be in the minority but except for Kinect 2.0 I was all in with the original vision of the Xbox One as an all-in-one set top box. I loved the TV integration, Snap feature, and even voice controls. I was disappointed they ultimately abandoned all of that - though other services picked up the slack eventually like streaming music and tv options. Still want Snap back though.

      They can make 20flop consoles and still have enough money to make 20 others. So that answer just means nothing. I remember arround the launch of the first xbox, they said that they are focussing on the third xbox generation....which is the main reason i never bought one, i laughed a lot when the third gen xbox was the xbox one. This gen looks way better, but just like the playstation studio's turned out some bad games. The new studio's they accuired cant be flawless and will make mistakes. It has to get worse before it gets better. But at the moment xbox is a five to six trick pony at best games wise.

      They are ONLY doing it because they are losing in the console space against the PlayStation. Truth it, Microsoft has never beaten Sony when it comes to consoles. PS3 outsold the 360 in the end and that was the closest they EVER GOT BUT EVEN WITH A GIGANTIC LEAD THEY STILL FAILED.
      Xbox sucks, always has, forever will. Microsoft as a company sucks. Sony is no Saint either but Microsoft has always been the worst when it comes to PC's or consoles.

    • @dapperfan44
      @dapperfan44 2 года назад

      @@LUCKO2022 I disliked Xbox since it launched when I was 11 because it seemed like a sports and shooters console, and I wanted games like Ratchet and Clank or Mario. The only game Xbox had that I wanted was Blinx, and any other 3rd party platformers were also on PS2 and GameCube (sometimes just also on PS2).
      With that said I hate to admit it but Microsoft is beating Sony when it comes to caring about their legacy. Sony should be ashamed that Microsoft is beating them on a feature THEY STARTED* with backwards compatibility. I doubt they will, but I really hope they make a PS5 Pro that can play all 5 generations of PlayStation. And, I would even dig it if they made it to where you can play select PSP and PS Vita games on it as long as they're the digital versions.
      *As far as I'm aware, though I'm unsure of Atari, there has been no other console before PS2 that offered backwards compatibility out of the box. Sega Genesis required a converter to play Master System games.

    I underestimated the original Xbox in its time, but since then I've grown a deep fondness and respect for it. Excellent console with awesome specs, an underrated library, and an amazing homebrew scene.
    The Xbox 360 was a great console too, it just had a hard time getting away from the Red Ring of Death in the first half of its lifecycle, and the Kinect in its second half.
    The Xbox One was a misstep initially, but in the long run it was a solid value- thanks to its developer mode, the built-in 4K Blu-Ray player (on later models), backwards-compatibility, and the Xbox Game Pass.
    The Xbox Series consoles may take a few years to really hit their stride, but so-far I think Phil Spencer's got it going in the right direction, and I look forward to seeing how this generation unfolds.

      To be honest, I've never really liked videogames, except maybe a bit of Wii back in 2009-12, but I found the Xbox 360 to be a cool console. We got it for free in 2012, when dad bought a new PC. I played SEGA's Sonic All-Star Racing w/Banjo-Kazooie, and loved it. Sadly, I went to the big box store to pick up some more games that were fun, but 99% were either games for 5 year olds, or violent ones, cos I dislike hurting hominids in games, and this turned me off to any future gaming. So yeah, after playing the racing game for a week or so, the Xbox 360S began collecting dust. Haven't played it in 9 years. I wish more indie games existed back in 2012, cos I would have gotten into gaming. The only reason why I am watching this video is cos I like learning about technological innovations such as consoles and computers. For comparison, the GPU inside of the OG Xbox from 2001 is faster than a supercomputer from early 1991 (20 GigaFLOPS). :)
      For comparison, the Valve Steam Deck has a 2 TeraFLOPS GPU, or 100 times faster than the OG Xbox.
      I rambled a bit too much, lol. I'm quite a talkative science/tech/engineering enthusiast guy in my early-mid 20s. By the way, I ordered an RG350 handheld on 11/11 for under $70, second hand, so I can play/emulate some older nonviolent games from the '80s and '90s.

    • @Manic_Panic
      @Manic_Panic 2 года назад +3

      The OG Xbox came right on time to directly jump into the golden era of games. With strong support from Koei and Sega, decent first party games, more hardware features/power and proper online capabilities, it was ready to at least
      cohabit with the PS2 during those years. It's a great console to revisit since it is the best place to play 6th gen games & has a lot of hidden gem exclusives.
      The 360 stumpled a bit in my opinion. Introducing paid online and continuing with DVD when game sizes were getting larger. However, the console still had a good output of exclusives and variety + decent backwards compatibility. Then things started getting worse in the 2nd half, exclusive support diminished as third parties went full multiplat, Microsoft desperately needed studios and they hyped and spent too much on with Kinect in the 360's final years. Anyway, Sony's PS3 Cell CPU was a mess, so the 360 had the upper hand in graphics and there is still many games in the console that make it worth coming back to.
      The Xbox One/Series consoles are totally worthless though. Simply because all their games/gamepass are on Windows 11. I legitimately cannot find a reason own one of these. But then again, I think the PS5 will go in that direction too. It's good for me as a consumer though it's terrible for these console, it devalues them a lot. Not to mention their horrible Japanese support pales in comparison to the 360 and OG.

    Yea... The loss of *Kinect 2.0* was quite a shame... I played *Alien: Isolation* on the *Xbox One* in a dark room at night and it was the most immersive game I played in a _long_ while.
    The Kinect didn't do much in the game but what it did was spot on - Translate _my_ movements to my character whenever I was in a hiding position ( behind a something / inside a closet ) allowing for a totally different gaming experience. The Kinect also picking up any noises from the room to alert the Alien was such a genius move ( too bad I'm silent AF ). It was basically a VR-Light experience.

    I remember playing the Halo: CE demo on a laptop when I was young. The most advanced system I had at that point was the Wii, and a game from 2001 still blew me away with it's scope.
    I bought an Xbox 360 in 2012, and with it I got Halo 4, Skyrim and Forza 4. Skyrim was the most immersive game I'd ever played, me, my dad and my sister all had characters and we used to wake up early to watch each other play and explore. We all played Halo 4's multiplayer together, and that Christmas day I had a 12 player lobby full of my friends playing it. Forza 4 literally looked like camera footage to me, the lighting was so realistic (it even interested my grandad).
    Foolishly, I bought an Xbox One instead of a PS4. I even bought a Kinect 2.0 after they were separated. And although it never had the same magic, I still have plenty of great memories. Sunset Overdrive was incredibly fun, The Witcher 3 recaptured the scale I loved in Skyrim, I bought Halo TMCC just to play 4 player splitscreen with my friends, Dark Souls 3 was one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had and Titanfall 1+2 is basically the only multiplayer game I've played on my own and had fun.
    My OG One died and I bought a One X (only for me to fix it afterwards), which made up from a lot of the hardware suffering with the original model in comparison to PS4.
    Then early this year I grabbed a Series X. Magic has definitely been recaptured, and I'm loving it. The majority of my games, old and new, are now at those silky 6th generation framerates, playing classis games via retroarch in developer mode is awesome and the whole thing is silent and compact.
    I'm a Nintendo fan at heart, and while I do love my PS5 for its outstanding exclusives, having my Series X be the only Xbox I need setup for the majority of games is insanely convenient for a collector like me. Xbox is awesome, and if you love games, you love Xbox

    sorry about the 360 jtag scene. I was 13 years old and was opening up 360’s and soldering wires and flashing new key vaults to host mw2 modded lobbies. I made like 1000 dollars. Learned a lot as a 13 year old though. What started as me wanting to get 10th prestige after seeing a modded lobby, turned into me ordering dozens of Xbox’s on ebay and opening then up and learning to solder. Ended up even selling some modded Xbox’s. Would even cut open part of the metal cage on the side so I could mount the device the soldered wires connected to in the xbox, while running the micro USB port to the side. This let you have full time access to flash the xbox without having to take anything apart. All because I wanted to get 10th prestige and all the guns and skins unlocked and saw people selling access to lobbies and thought why can’t I do this? Wasn’t even 13 years old and started a decent part time business haha. Became to expensive to keep buying new keys to un ban my consoles to get another ~4 hours online to host a lobby. So yeah I’m sure people like me tarnished the name of modders, but I was a 12 year old who just wanted to show off in MW2!

    I was in middle school, and I asked my parents for the original xbox for my birthday. The graphical fidelity is what drew me, and the library of games made me a lifelong fan. My whole family pitched in for my birthday, and that was one of the best and happiest moments of childhood because it wasn't always the best. My first Xbox games were Artic Thunder and Dead or Alive 3, and the Duke controller was a marvel of design for me. It felt so perfect in my hands. Artic Thunder was a fun arcarde style snowmobile racing game, but DOA3 was an incredible experience. I always liked fighting games, and DOA's fighting style felt so much smoother and visceral compared to anything I ever played. I eventually got Halo a few months later, and I was blown away. I spent hours exploring levels and maps, enjoying the scenery of the games, and it helped forge frindship bonds I still have to this day. I'll never forget the absolute blast that were the Halo lan parties. KOTOR was also a big deal for me, as it was the first video game I ever bought on my own. No parents involved, I save up a long time to afford it, and that game live up to it's reputation. The amount of fantastic dialogue options and the how much it affected the game was staggering to me. It was also the first time I had ever gotten into Star Wars. I was never a big fan of the OT trilogy, and I did enjoy the prequel films and cartoons, but KOTOR is probably the best Star Wars has ever been for me. Let's not forget Xbox Live. What a blast that was. It was so much fun and and such a brilliant experience. I could go on and on, and write a damn book about my Xbox experiences, but to sum it all up, the Xbox made me the gamer I am today and I'll always love the brand.

    • @ericp631
      @ericp631 2 года назад

      @@cozzy4447 back during the 80's and 90's consoles were seen as kids toys(the marketing at the time was aimed at kids and consoles were sold out of the toy department), if a grown up wanted to play games it was a pc. Games like doom,quake, sim city, half-life, and myst were just as big of a driver in getting windows based PC's into the home as the internet. Things changed with PlayStation. Sony aimed their marketing at teens and 20 year olds, knowing kids would want one because they want to be cool and mature like their older siblings and 30+ would buy one to be youthful (how do you do fellow kids). And it worked, PS1 sold way more than what was thought possible for a console and a challenger for PC gaming's market. Then comes the PS2, which before it's unveiling was rumored to be more powerful than the highest end graphics for PC. It wasn't true(it was barely above the Dreamcast), but still caused a scare in MS hq and was a seen as a threat to PC gaming and thus Microsoft's business. So the thought was to enter the console wars to try and knock Sony out of it(obviously didn't work). Fun fact: their original plan was to buy, or at least partner, with Nintendo for this. But Nintendo literally laughed them out of the building. So plan 2. Enter the console business themselves (why not Sega? By that time everyone knew they were done, it was assumed they would go belly up entirely. They were so far in debt and the brand so damaged, they just weren't worth saving. So they refused when Sega begged Microsoft to acquire them).
      The Dreamcast 2 moniker comes from the Dreamcast being the design inspiration for the xbox and the 9 game exclusivity deal Sega signed with Microsoft.
      Direct x. This is were the x in Xbox comes from. The Xbox was a platform to show off the capabilities of the direct x API and get developers to adopt it and become the default for the industry
