      I agree, I think the salary cap is much more of a negative effect than lack of pro/rel. honestly they can keep the cap, but it’s too low! If they raise it that would help

    Interesting ideas but having such a massive top league would have such a devastating affect on the players, mostly on their fitness. Player in Europe already complain about having too many fixtures playing 38 domestic games and so many domestic and potentially continental cup ties. Maybe copying the European league model with more regionalisation would be good considering how large the US is.

    • @SoccerScenarios
      @SoccerScenarios  6 месяцев назад +7

      I definitely agree with you! I wish instead of one massive league, they would split the American top league into regions. Especially if there’s no pro/rel, because then we simply have more clubs. The problem with that would be dilution of talent plus we’d miss out on bigger teams playing such as LA Galaxy vs Inter Miami.
      I think the option of 1 game per opponent per season is a good compromise and wouldn’t be surprised if they switch to that.

      There’s 29 teams in the MLS now and they only play 34 matches, less than European leagues

    • @wozzablog
      @wozzablog Месяц назад +1

      i mean, you could go with 16 MLS clubs and then a series of 3 regional divisons, East, West and Central with 20 teams ro whatever. Top teams from each of the leagues below are proted and three are relegated and placed in the relavant conferences below geographically like in the English pyramid from conference north adnd south in to the main national conference. (well "national league" now as is").
      Even if you kept the 20 teams i don't see how ficxture congestion would be nearly as bad as it would be in the eruo-leagues without the insanity of the champions league. 20 team MLS with 4 going down, three national leagues below and a play off system between the 3 second place teams in those conferences for the fouth promotion slot. Or if you really want to americanise it - have the 4th bottom team in the MLS enter the play offs with the teams below to try and retain their position
      I am an old man, i remember when the top flight of English football had 24 teams, but Euro football was straight knockout all the way. Domestic football isn't what causes ficture pile ups (outside of the lower leagues without weatherised picthes)

    • @PolecanePC
      @PolecanePC 16 дней назад

      Well for example if you pick top teams from UK they play in: Premier League, two domestic cups, Champions League, and to add to that they need to send players to national teams.
      So think of it the way that US clubs could only play in MLS, and some whatever international cup games which ain't really important on their continent. Basically you can focus only on MLS even if team needs to play 60 games in MLS or something.
      Also it could be made in a fun way like you play one round - 35 games, basically one game against each team, and then you move into your conference. Or you start in conference with like 7 games, then do that 35 and then play-offs. Different take would be 35 games and then Swiss system, like the one which will be in Champions League in season 24/25, and then normal play offs.

      I think it'd be good for them to start it in the lower tiers 1st to let the fanbase and hype grow, then introduce MLS into the whole pyramid once the system is properly established and they've created a good financial safety net.

    Relegation without relegation.
    1. MLS future: 40 teams divided into 2 levels. Top level 20 teams and lower level ' dog house ' 20 teams , only 1 conference.
    2. Every half of the season the bottom 10 teams from top would be ralegated the dog house and the top 10 teams from te dog house would be promoted to the top level. And the next year season will be the teams will start from the places that they ended previous season.
    3. Each team will play 38 games , no playoffs! Beacouse the entire seasson will be like playoffs. Champion of the fall will play champion of spring in MLS cup. The season will start in july /august and end in may/june. In this way we can streach the season more if teams from colder locations start hosting later and stop hosting earlier. Mls cup will be in june.
    4. in this system MLS clubs will play total 15% more games than before. It does not make sanse that half of the teams end season sooner than the rest.
    5. It would be a nice compromise between relegation/promotion and the current system of far niente were many players love to finish the season sooner!
    6. There are would be no safe middle of the table place , it will be easy to be relegated and easy to be promoted.
    7. The revenue would be divided between franchises the same way as before so the teams in the dog house would no suffer financially.
    8. This system would create a lot of excitments all year long.

    The promotion and relegation thing between the MLS and USL Championship is a little bit confusing with the play-offs. I assumed that the top 16 teams from the USL Championship would face off against each other in 2-legged games(like Europa League or Conference League playoffs in Europe for knockout stage). I then assumed that the winners of those games would then face off against the 8 other MLS teams that are just above the last-placed team. I then assumed it would be like the relegation play-offs like how they do it in Germany and the only difference would be that there is more teams. This is also similar to the Europa League or Conference League playoffs in Europe for knockout stage.

    I use to be critical of the MLS system, but now I can see why it makes sense in a way. The US is not just a country like England where Chelsea and Spurs can exist in the same location, the US is a whole continent so travelling end-to-end week in and week out just wouldn't work. I remember Pirlo having similar complains about the unusual long distance travelling. So this system work cause East Coast vs West Coast is already engrained into US culture, so it's better to create a league around that system since it's a proven formula that works.

    NHL NFL supports 32 teams. Whilst NBA and MLB have 30 teams but are in discussion for expansion to 32 each. So i can see the MLS moving to 32 aswell. 16 per conference.

    I think the MLS in your system should really be split. 18 Teams in MLS Elite, 18 Teams in MLS Challengers. 36 teams is IMO far too much. Make it 18 teams on each instead. The top 8 teams will of Elite will do a playoff style tournament after normal season to be crowned Ultimate Elite Cup Champion of some such, while 9-16 of Elite will have a playoff tournament against the 3-10 of Challengers. 2 teams with lowest points are relegated from tier 1, while 2 teams with highest are automatically promoted.

But I think that 38 teams, 76 fixtures at least ! It's too much... Here in France, Ligue1 even switched to the 18 teams system like in Germany (even if the best system is 20 imo). Other than that u did well and I think that the MLS should take notes bc they really need to change some stuff if they want to get competitive one day, they have potential but the franchise system doesn't really work with football...

    I think the pro/rel system would really grow the MLS internationally and make it a higher quality league. Players would more likely want to come, teams can improve and have more to play for throughout the season (especially the teams near the bottom who can’t qualify for the playoffs) and also it can give smaller USL Championship clubs the chance to make it into MLS. By all means keep the MLS play offs as they keep the American feel to the league as it’s unique but for me adding pro/rel to US Soccer can really help it grow.
