I don't think so. Cena is an ego driven person. You can talk yourself into a lot of bs. You can tell yourself that you do stuff for the bigger meaning of something. For me and I think for a lot of other guys it would have been better, if he just let The Rock be The Rock. And that's what Cena said in the Promo by the way. He wants The Rock to be The Rock by humiliating him live and make it personal? Makes no sense.
I don’t see an issue with what either one of them did. Like Cena said, The Rock had a lot of different things to do so I don’t see an issue with putting the promo on the wrist if he couldn’t memorize everything. Probably shouldn’t have went sleeveless. As for Cena, he saw an opportunity and he took it. It was a cheap shot because he went off script but that type of stuff brings heat and adds authenticity to a feud. Can’t help but respect both of them. All and all it was a good feud with a good payoff. Legendary participants, great build up and a good match.
Cena became the face of the company at a time when most of the prominent attitude Era stars went away. Lesnar and Goldberg from ruthless aggression era went away. Guys like Orton and Batista were destined to achieve greatness and the company was pushing them aggressively. But then came Cena who was kind of lost in the shuffle for 2 years before he got into mainevent by 2005. He surpassed everyone by 2010. He was the guy Vince could always trust to give fans a great show. Maybe Orton came close enough to him by 2011. Punk was hot for 4 years and went away. WWE got Lesnar back and that's when by 2014 we saw Cena withering away from mainevent apart from 2017 WWE championship win. He held his own against the Rock and many a times actually roasted him and Rock just couldn't handle his verbal beatings. Cena gave us an image of what a guy should be like. His humility and humbleness is why he's so successful in Hollywood now, where Rock had to grind himself for almost a decade before he tasted real success.

As far as impact , merchandise sales and heart, John Cena is right up there with the great. He just was the goat in a rebuilding generation so it's looked at as less than. But he did all the make a wish more than ANYONE in history , handled the championship reign of wresltimf 340 days a year with class and hard work.
Though Rock was rusty verbally, his legacy was still GIANT their verbally squabble reminded me of Cena battling the Big Show back in the day. Fighting from underneath but choosing his shots and making them count
If u ask me, looking at all their promos head to head and this whole rivalry. I gotta give the edge to cena on who ultimately won it in the war of words. Cena had some lines on the rock that were just too good, the promo on the wrist one comes to mind for me and his thuganomics rap to the rock.
Cena is such a pro. He knows exactly what to say. You know damn well he doesn't believe the part where he talks about how they needed to elevate Cena to be on Rock's level, but he is so good at talking that he can put himself down and gain brownie points in the process. He knows people would respect him for saying that.
I respect everything John Cena gave to the business even if I wasn't a huge fan of his ever since like the beginning of the PG era yes I was one of those people who disliked him so much I didn't want to see him ever again and right now he is doing a decent job as an actor and he has potential to be great at it even better than the rock he really Doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting
I think Cena did what Rock would of done in 98,99 because he took his promos into his own hands making fun of obvious things about wrestlers (HHH big nose and etc) and it made him. I hated it at the time but Cena was right. Real tension is ok cuz they are pros
when stone cold was going through his stuff back in the day, rock was quick to trash him and say austin took his ball and went home. All cena did was return the favor. i never seen anyone destroy rock the way cena did in those promos. Thats why rock was mad.
So ignorant, Rock literally let Stone Cold win 2 wrestle manias against him before Stone Cold left. That's why Rock was pissed at Austin, because Stone Cold was a taker compared to the Rock.
Stone Cold wasn't just going through his stuff. He was scheduled to appear on Raw & failed to show up. That rightfully pissed a lot of people off because people pay to see the big stars.

Speaking on Austin Theory, it sucks then that the match at Mania was so lackluster and didn't seem to do Austin any favors. He's not in any better of a place now than he was in January. Doesn't seem like what John was trying to tell him stuck.
Cena does that for a lot of upcoming stars and it almost never works out. Not saying he's a bad teacher or anything, I'm just saying that they're probably young and let it go in one ear and out the other. Who'd ever thought that wrist promo back in 2012 would totally piss The Rock off, even though John Cena was just firing back with a comeback from all the times they've trashed talk on the mic and on social media I have nothing but respect for those two. Can’t believe Cena said they didn’t think that match was gonna draw money. Like it’s John Cena vs The Rock, the biggest Wrestlemania main event since Rock vs Hogan.
I hope John Cena understands that’s WWE doesnt really allow the new people to develop promo skills anymore cause they write everything for them, so to tell Austin theory “i don’t believe in your character” its like saying “i don’t believe in the character/script the WWE gave him” I’m not saying he shouldn’t be able to adapt , I’m just saying theres little too no creative freedom to allow the wrestlers to feel genuine… other than Roman and part timers
This is such a good point. I'm sure there are a handful of guys (and women too) that are very proactive and outspoken with their creative (like Jericho used to be) but I feel like the majority of them don't have the ability to take things into their own hands.
The rock got out more from this rivalry than cena did. I think the rock became this big a Hollywood superstar due to his fast 5 and his wwe return being so close to each other. He did bad movies before and still continues to do bad movies barring 1 or 2 relatively good ones peppered in between. Him and Ryan Reynolds are the two of the biggest Hollywood bubbles that continue to grow due to having an exceptional financial advisor/ social media propaganda team despite having a B grade movie resume.
Idk man the rock was tailor made before this and so was cena tbh. They bith benefited the rock got the wwe crowd back on his side and cena got a multi million dollar deal remember the rock returned in 07 and 08 and they half booed half cheered then at the end he got cheered. The rock was starting to lose credibility and he became over the second he came back multiple times
I think Theory’s real personality will do so much better than his heel personality. When he was on Celtic Warrior Workouts he seemed pretty relatable/likable and once he becomes a baby face he’ll blow up

How can anyone say the Rock didn’t love the business? The man was literally one of the biggest faces ever and he always did what was right for the business…he never refused to lose to guys if that’s what Vince wanted. He was willing to come back when necessary to elevate the business. The man accomplished everything and more in regards to wrestling so there was nothing left for him to do.
You understand why Cena's regretful right? If you did u wouldn't be saying he shouldn't be. The Rock had been scheduled to film for movies and he also had to try his best to fit in wwe for us fans. Cena just realized once he did that switch to movies what it was like for the rock. So he seen from rocks pov with a busy schedule and what it felt like from others like miz calling him a part timer and not having love for the business anymore.
Cena was so insecured that he had to personally attack Rock. Rock attacked Cena too, but all in a funny way. Just some playground insult, but Cena did a deep-level research and psychoanalysis like some second grade student just to humiliate Rock who was and is miles ahead of him in terms of Mic Skill, Charisma, looks and everything. Rock could have eaten that Robotic looking guy if WWE was not in that kiddy era
Cena was carrying wwe and now I understand. He was so invested that he didn’t realize he had tunnel vision idc what anyone says we all would be like that if we were in his situation. Cena was boring but he did everything. Roman is doing fine but I personally think wwe should shift from him and focus on Seth, Sami , Cody , lashley , and Finn balor for now those guys are really great and you have new talent like dom, Gunther , and Bronson reed who feel like vets
He is as intelligent as he is athletic..and it isn't simple to pencil in just one or two reasons why John Cena carried WWE for over a dedcade before reducing schedule.. But if one reason and one reason alone existed: .. I'd say it's because he is the most Authentic personality in the history of the WWE..he doesn't play a character.. The Athlete and Entertainer he is when in the ring: is the exact same man out of it. Dr of Thuganomics was a character (which is arguably still a fraction of himself)..but everything after that was just Authentic John Felix Anthony Cena, Jr.
The thing that most people don't understand about john cena is that he is smart talker. He talks like a businessman. We all know that this was Jordan vs LeBron/Ali vs Tyson the day it was announced. John Cena was miles above the rest and no one (back then in 2011) was as close as cena in terms of star power. In simpler words, he was getting destroyed by Dwayne so much that their feud became a one sided affair. So he saw the opportunity and took it. But now, he's covering up and his way is so good that it's believable. Someone who never saw that promo could easily believe him. That explains why he is so successful in his life. Also his mic skills are way under appreciated. He is up there at top. Funny thing is that apart from Dwayne, CM Punk is the only wreslter that could beat him on mic which he did during that time when Cena was feuding with Rock.
The Rock is my favorite wrestler and the GOAT but those promos he had against John Cena failed, very rarely does The Rock get verbally owned by anyone, but everytime he cut a promo against John Cena he seemed frustrated to the point where he didn’t know what to say but childish insults.

I was always into wrestling back in the day when it was wwf with Steve Austin. Since then I was never really into it but still liked and respected the sport, however I still took my kids to the wwe In Birmingham uk, the first time we all had ever gone to watch these amazing athletes, I will never forget the sound of the crowd in the arena, when John cena entrance music started and he came running out…..and the feeling I had at that moment, It literally sent shivers through me. You all do this just to make people like me smile. You will all go to heaven. God bless.

Cena was a menace for exposing The Rock like that 😂. I rememeber laughing so hard!!
My boy rocks been gone so long from wrestling while cena was well comfortable. I respect cena for apologizing and being humble.
Cena is a universe of his own as well!
And absolutely fucking hilarious. His comedy skills are fucking amazing
John is clearly humble, and not realizing he too was a universal force within the WWE during this exact time
If u ask me, looking at all their promos head to head and this whole rivalry.
Really great to have Cena do this entertainment
Rooted for Cena in their feud back then, didn't change my view now
The Rock sold the whole thing tbh but Cena did his job
I respect everything John Cena gave to the business even if I wasn't a huge fan of his ever since like the beginning of the PG era yes I was one of those people who disliked him so much I didn't want to see him ever again and right now he is doing a decent job as an actor and he has potential to be great at it even better than the rock he really Doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting
Hypocrite U don’t deserve cena really
This tell me how WWE have some real life truth to this.
I think Cena did what Rock would of done in 98,99 because he took his promos into his own hands making fun of obvious things about wrestlers (HHH big nose and etc) and it made him. I hated it at the time but Cena was right. Real tension is ok cuz they are pros

He put over Roman back before he was Roman and it wasn't until he paired up with Paul Heyman and basically let Paul take his character in the direction that it needed to be taken in before he actually started becoming a draw for the company.
Cena say he getting a rub rom Rock which ridiculous, he was already Multiple time WWE Champion by the time the Rock feud kicked off. The Rock and Cena never had a match prior to Mania, The Rock has Beatin Austin, Hogan, and Cena all at Mania. That is milestone no one will ever touch.
When you put it like that, he’s beat a guy that’s been THE guy from every era

Can’t believe Cena said they didn’t think that match was gonna draw money. Like it’s John Cena vs The Rock, the biggest Wrestlemania main event since Rock vs Hogan.
Naw man. It was Andre The Giant Vs Hulk Hogan. Til dis day, they still talk about that match. But I digress 😊
Rock vs Hogan wasn’t even the main event but I get you
I hope John Cena understands that’s WWE doesnt really allow the new people to develop promo skills anymore cause they write everything for them, so to tell Austin theory “i don’t believe in your character” its like saying “i don’t believe in the character/script the WWE gave him”
I’m not saying he shouldn’t be able to adapt , I’m just saying theres little too no creative freedom to allow the wrestlers to feel genuine… other than Roman and part timers
🤓
Cena got a multi million dollar deal from fruity pebbles bc of it lol so naw the rock didn't really get much out of it compared to cena
Ryan Reynolds has the Deadpool movies that carry him.

Anyone else bummed out that Cena is backtracking his feelings on the rivalry? 🙋♂️I wish he wasn’t so regretful about it bcuz many of us had doubts if the Rock really loved the business during that time. What would’ve happened if Cena never had a problem with the Rock? What would there beef have been centred around?
There was legit heat between rock and John
Everyone was on the rocks side during this rivary cena always got booed the rock NEVER got booed once
Breaking the 4th wall is not cool though. I look at it as a fear response.

What “writing on the monitor” was the host talking about? I haven’t watched wrestling in a while so I’m curious.
A good chunk (most) is scripted.
After serving 20 years still this guy is so grounded
The Rock is my favorite wrestler and the GOAT but those promos he had against John Cena failed, very rarely does The Rock get verbally owned by anyone, but everytime he cut a promo against John Cena he seemed frustrated to the point where he didn’t know what to say but childish insults.
