I already knew this was happening, because The Rock said in the past that he was open to a WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns. He's been talking about it for two years now, so this is not surprising at all that it came close to actually happening.
This is a no brainer. As big a match as there can possibly be in this day and age with no close 2nd.
I bet it still might happen if they just figure out a good storyline

What about Cody ? Rock Vs Roman at WM 39 would have been perfect. Bloodline was red hot at that point and if Roman had gone over Rock, the 1000 day reign would have been truly epic and then Cody could have finished his story at WM 40.
Cody was more or less the backup option in the case that Rock couldn't make it.
Cody can wait a little more longer or go for the Heavyweight title. But this can't wait lol. The Rock is 51 and already pushing it. Its now or never.
This is WAY bigger than Cody.
We need to focus on the future. Bringing back guys like the Rock is only a temporary success. It's bad for a future investment in WWE.

Love him or hate him but he's absolutely right about doing something unprecedent, something special. Rather than just throwing away The Rock's come back as just another random match with no solid purpose, it should have greater story and meaning behind it.
WWE and to an extent, overall Wrestling fans in general, like to chant "one more match" for every ex/retired/semi-retired/returning etc.. etc.. Wrestler like it's the most important thing in their lives right after slice bread.

the match might never have been done, but the story or how the build ups is what they're concerned.. we all wanted the match sure, but we also want a good story or a proper build up for a match like this, coz if they messed up this and make a half baked story or build ups, nobody gonna invest even for the match itself..

I was freaking out watching this live. The Bloodline storyline is arguably the greatest in WWE history and Roman Reigns vs The Rock headlining WM40 would be legendary. Seeing that it actually came close and that it can still happen and that The Rock is INVESTED in doing something special like this makes me so happy. I love Cody Rhodes but he can have his moment at WM41, give Rocky a great sendoff with his family in the city of brotherly love.
The greatest in WWE history if you've only been watching post pandemic I guess. You should go back and watch some Stone Cold vs Vince Mcmahon kiddo, or the dozens of other way better stories

Tbh I'm for them going big with Roman vs the Rock at WM 40. This might be the last chance to do it with the strike going on. Cody winning the title would be great but Romans your biggest star and having him beat The Rock at WrestleMania would have him more over than hes ever been. It would also mean Reigns title reign will go on longer and Rhodes can win it at WM 41.

The Rock is way too big for Roman. Rock vs Cena was great because Cena could keep up pretty well with the Rock in terms of drawing a crowd, doing great segments, etc etc. Roman can do a match but not entertain at the same level.

I'm gonna assume Johnson was kinda hamming it up with the hernia injury story just for the reaction, because he actually had to have emergency surgery and filming for Hercules was delayed as a result. I remember how lax the studios were back then with having Johnson wrestle prior to and in between projects no problem; and after the Injury that wasn't the case anymore. Safe to say after that Injury and production delay, Every studio after that point probably put in restrictions on wrestling prior to or during a production.
