  • And with Zachtronics finally saying goodbye, we say goodbye back and think about why their games are more memorable then others.
    Music is from the gameplay of Exapunks, but it has a Monkey Island's feel, doesn't it?

    Nice video, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts
    I can't say what the future holds, but we're all under the same roof again at Coincidence games, so I wouldn't discount the possibility of more zach-likes from the team in the future!

      I'd follow anyone from Zachtronics, but looking into the Coincidence makes me very excited for the future from that company. Can't wait to see what you do next.

    Sad to see developers that made games that require a large amount of thinking and analysis go their separate ways. These are the games that create thinkers in a world that's getting more dumb as time passes by. Their legacy will live on

      The world isnt getting dumber. Misinformation is easier to spread than ever before.

    Solving the puzzles of TIS-100 it's so damn satisfying, even if I don't have any prior programming knowledge, I have a blast with that game. It was intimidating at first, I must say.
    Sad to hear that they are dissolving the studio, but thanks for your positive end note, I hope Zach continues making amazing games in the future

    Wrote and recorded this before the most recent list of Game Pass games were revealed, but Shenzhen I/O is coming to Game Pass as well, so you can check that one out as well.

    I really liked Exapunks and Opus Magnum. I didn't finish some of their other ones, but still enjoyed them. I have an idea for a Zachtronics inspired game that I hope to make some day.

      I'll be looking forward to your game. This style of game is so interesting and unique that I hope it doesn't disappear from the gaming landscape.

    I only played Opus Magnum, and only a small handful of levels. But I really enjoyed my time in that game, and I saved my solutions to GIF files!

    Spacechem wasn't even their first game, it's just the first one that's one steam. Before that they made a few flash puzzle games, which were kind of simlar to the other zach likes and also a game called Infiniminer which was the main inspiration for minecraft.

    Your passion really made this one interesting. Never heard of Zactronics, but it got my interest.

    • @Kinglink
      @Kinglink  2 года назад +2

      I'm glad that passion came through. I absolutely love the studio but am never sure if I start going on about them, if it just sounds like a strange rant, or like someone who who has finally found where they belong.

    Also loved them since Spacechem. And yeah, it feels like mulitthreaded programming. Never managed to finish that one though, it got too hard in the last levels :)
    Did manage to finish Opus Magnum without cheating (but euh yeah, not the extra levels).
    As for Eliza, that game was made by another main dev and published by Zachotronics.

    Thanks for this video. I'm sad that this studio is ending because I've noticed how passionate their fanbase is over the years. I've tried a few and because I'm not a programmer, or have much knowledge of coding, I'm technically restricted from playing these really cool looking games. For me, this is a complete win because there is finally something for me. I understand how niche they are, and it's always sad to see a breakup.

      Their big games tend to be very programmer heavy, but games like Opus Magnum and Last Call BBS, abstract the nerdiest pursuits into a welcoming and understandable package at times.
      Still glad to hear the studio has made an impact on you, even if they were unable to reach you in their games.

    Man does that suck. Really have always enjoyed their games. Hope them all the best and maybe will be lucky and they will have a couple more in bundles so I can get the last one. Yes I am cheap sorry to say so it is right now hard to purchase the last game full price especially sicne many seem to get into bundles after a time.

    This is not a bad thing. Certainly not the end. Letting the Zacktronics name rest can give him leeway to get weird, try out new things with new developers.

    I think Zachtronics games are pretty much hit or miss. I absolutely loved Opus Magnum and Hacknet and will definitely try out Last Call BBS tho, but I think stopping there is the right call.
    I'm not sure they can keep putting out original games as they have kinda exhausted their niche.
    They deserve more recognition tho, and hopefully their hidden gems will be discovered by new players in future bundles.

      @@TriuraniumOctoxide I haven't all of their games but I did try this one. Sadly, it didn't click with me. I'm not really sure why, maybe it's the 3D aspect.

  • @niknah

    I really liked Infinifactory, but I didn't get into Spacechem or Eliza. Maybe they're games where you needed to have worked in a certain occupation to understand it. Train Valley is another one like Infinifactory. Thanks for the news. I am a programmer too.

    • @Kinglink
      @Kinglink  2 года назад

      Eliza is definitely different than anything else they made. However Spacechem certainly got a boost because of how unique it was when it came out. It got a really sweet TF2 tie in early on. I can imagine playing it after all their other games might not be as sweet though, yet Infinifactory is really unique as well.

    I don't really have a programming job or anything and though I have messed with Python and C I wouldn't say I really KNOW what i'm doing most of the time. I picked up hexapunk on a whim the other day and I swear 6 hours passed and I didn't even realize, and I was actually getting through it! These games make you feel smart no joke lol I love them.

    Crud... I hadn't heard about this before now. Unfortunate. I've played nearly all of their games.
