After the behaviour is taught and a cue is added, simply do not click/treat or reward (even attention) when the behaviour is offered without being cued.
This teaches the dog she must wait for the cue in order to receive any sort of reward (treats, toys, attention, praise)

Hi I tried the clicker training, But my puppy just doesn't get it. He is a 9 week old Jack Russel/Pitbull terrier mix. And he has low interest in the treats i reward him with. I tried everything, from his normal kibble to small pieces of steak. Please advise

Real beef jerky isn't good for us - too much sugar and artificial. Better to use real beef (get some stewing beef, cook it, cut it) for treats. Healthier...

Only click when you follow with a treat. One click = one treat.

Thank you for this video. Plenty out there that teach how to use clickers but yours was really the only one that I found that discusses more about idea and for lack of better words theory behind clicker training

Not eating steak? That is strange!
If there is nothing medically wrong with your dog, try training in a less distracting environment such as the bathroom with the door closed. Will he not eat steak then???

Yes, you have a busy schedule ahead of you. In addition to training basic behaviours now, you need to be socializing your 8 week old puppy to the world she will need to live in. She does not have all her vaccinations so you need to look for a puppy socialization class. Dogs have to eat anyways so start using food as a reward immediately.

Intermittently, there needs to be some food rewards here and there. Or, something else the dog finds reinforcing.

Great video. Thanks for explaining why a clicker is the best way to go. We'll be picking up ours this afternoon.

In a single short training session, one behaviour at a time. Then take a break, and try something else. In general in everyday life, reward good behaviour you see, when you see it.

My 4 year old multipoo has been well trained since he was a puppy. He has lots of exercise and attention each day. My problem is that I have just moved him to a new apartment a month a go and he's having separation anxiety. How do I apply clicker training to help him when I leave him home alone? I also need to teach him to use a crate sometimes when I leave the house.
    Thanks

This was not an exciting tutorial, but is sure is spot on. I'm a behaviorist and been using operant conditioning for decades. So many RUclips tutorials leave out the variable schedule of reinforcement that is so important. Bravo. five stars.

many dogs are not treat motivated so then you can find what motivated the dog, maybe its a ball or special toy, maybe its just praise it does not need to be food. Find what floats your dogs boat.

I'm loving clicker training, me and my g/f took in a 10 week old black mouth cur 2 weeks ago and i've already taught her a few tricks. Any advice on getting her not to do those tricks for attention because if we are not paying attention to her she'll stick her paw up to shake or she'll sit on her hind legs for sit pretty...with my previous experience with puppies this is normal behavior and it's best to ignore it but I also want her to get used to the movements as well

Your dog has a couple of years of learning other things, so it might take a little more work to train him new behaviors, like not to pull if he pulls all the time. But, he will learn faster than any other way! These guys are great teachers too so you should definitely take their online class!
