  • Here’s the gist of it if you don’t want to see me ramble on. Plus I forgot an learned some things.
    The guard listens to state governor and president.
    Reserves only listens to president.
    They both can be called to overseas deployments but only guard will be called for state emergencies.
    The guard, in some states, offers 100% (STA)state tuition assistance. Reserves offer (FTA) federal tuition assistance of up to 16credit hours a year or $4000. Guard can use Montgomery G.I. Bill with STA but reserves cannot.
    Also just learned that reserves only have support MOS and guard has combat and support. Hope that helps anything else let me know.
    Im giving a brief very brief video about the differences between the two and also some Q & A at the end.

    You’re wrong about the funding for national guard drill. That money comes from the federal government. Each year active duty army plans a budget for all of its components and the reserve funding allotted for both national guard and reserve units is the same. Its broken down by the soldiers/equipment needed to be functional. The national guards budget is given to the national guard bureau or NGB which is federal then is distributed to the 54 states and colonies of the USA.

    Hey thanks for the video man. I’m currently a sophomore in college and military is something I’ve always wanted to do but still I still want to finish college. I want to join the army national guard but somebody told me I should go for air guard (which would you recommend). In terms of helping with tuition and having a better experience which I could use for a civilian job (like working in airport

    Hi Joe, I'm in Vegas too- do you know where the weekend drills (1/month) are typically held for National Guard vs Army Reserves?

    • @JoesModernLife
      @JoesModernLife  4 года назад +2

      9 times out of ten it will be in Vegas at your units location. Sometime you’ll have to leave vegas for a four day drill depending on your unit but we mostly stay in Vegas till our annual training.

    Another major difference is the guard has combat arms and the reserves doesn’t except one combat arms unit in Hawaii.

    I'm about to move to Vegas and join the NG. For a while I've been trying to research as much as possible on how I can have a successful career inside the military. And I don't wanna sound like I'm just in it for the money, but I don't wanna end up being another sad story of going in broke and coming out broke. So if you could give me some insight on this then I'd really appreciate it.

      Excellent question. To be successful just stay fit and try to max out your PT score always. Do some online military courses for more promotion points. Also whenever there’s training just excel at what you do. Be the professional in you MOS and work on getting awards. They will all help towards your promotion. You don’t have to but I would recommend if there is a deployment from another unit hope on it. Great money and experience unless you have a family then it’ll be a little harder. It’s just like any other job do your work get known and work toward promotions. And stay fit, hope that helps anything else just ask.

      I’m at unlv right now studying to be a graphic designer. I’m on my junior year and taking ROTC this year. As of right now I’m just a full time student and have three kids at different schools. It’s incredibly tough I’ll be going Monday through Friday. Waking up really early to go do PT with the ROTC. Then coming home grabbing the kids. Then my wife and I cook dinner while doing home work. Get them to bed then we shower and by the time we get to relax it’s almost eleven and we get to sleep and start all over again. It’s really tough and some days too stressful but just gotta push through for the better of your family.

    MOS's available are different too right? Support Only vs Combat and Support MOSs?

    • @JoesModernLife
      @JoesModernLife  6 лет назад

      What’s mos available depends on the units available in your area. You couldn’t be a tanker in my city until just recently. So yes your right. Reserves support. Guard is both.

      The closest thing to Combat related jobs in the Reserves is Combat Engineer, MP, and Airborne Civil Affairs units.

      What state/mos? Does NG have the same MOS's cross all states? What are the benefits from retiring NG, if any? In NG, are you stationed at regular Army installations?

    NG has everything the reserves has plus more, never less...for me the biggest plus....Airborne Infantry and Special Forces...reserves is service support and a bunch of REMF

      Sorry I thought I answered this but as long as it stays in the price range of what it covers. Even though they say they cover 100% it really covers $250 per semester hour not to exceed $4500 per fiscal year. Hope that helps

    How much does the national guard to make compared to the US Army

    • @zainahmed6502
      @zainahmed6502 3 года назад

      In the National Guard you get paid per drill.
      Typically drills are one weekend a month and two weeks a year.
      So you would be paid for that weekend and those two weeks.
      National Guard Drill Pay: www.goarmy.com/benefits/money/drill-pay-army-reserve-soldiers.html
      In Active Duty Military, you are a salaried employee and get paid per month.
      Pay varies by rank and experience, but it is mostly standard. Here is a chart for reference.

      Davonte Day National Guard members and reservists are eligible for a VA home loan if they have completed at least six years of honorable service, are mobilized for active duty service for a period of at least 90 days, or are discharged because of a service-connected disability.

    • @JoesModernLife
      @JoesModernLife  5 лет назад

      Hey I got a serious question. You said that reserves are dod already. So since your already dod does that make you easier to deploy? Since they don’t have to sign anything because your already federal. Guard need state approval before hand. Or are you guys on rotation like the guard and when needed your whole unit will deploy? Just wondering my buddy in the reserves doesn’t know much. Let me know thanks.

    • @bren4086
      @bren4086 5 лет назад +1

      Joes Modern Life So with the reserves you can be pulled to any state with a deploying unit if they require your MOS. So you might get moved to another state across the US if they are in need of your skill set.

      Did not know that. Jesus. My friend didn’t know that and he’s been there for four years. Thanks again for that.
