Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.

Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.
How to remove ear wax?
Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!
How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?
If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

Just wanted to say that I appreciate the care you both show to your patients. I was recommended by the algorithm another channel and they were so rough with the curettage tools and I believe drew blood by hitting the ear canal. I realize, as this video demonstrates, when the tool breaks free it would be very easy to ‘stab’ the canal accidentally but I saw blood in both videos and from watching you I know that is unusual…or you are wise enough to not show those videos. lol. I know you guys have the patients comfort as the highest priority so I just wanted to point out that others do not. Love the videos!

Years ago, I had a jelly bean size plug of wax removed from each ear. I think it was caused from the gypsum dust (in the sheetrock I worked with) preventing the wax from flowing out.
My car at the time had the automatic shoulder belts, When I started the car the sound of them engaging scared the hell out of me. I had no idea that my hearing had gotten so bad.
I was so glad when you stopped listing types of plugs, that could have gone off the rails. Or maybe it is just how my mind works. 😉
I’ve often wondered why no one has invented or used special tweezers to remove ear wax? Wouldn’t it be easier to rotate the tong parts around the margin to loosen the plug, then grab it and pull out? Or am I missing something here?
The problem is the wax is too soft generally, so using crocodile forceps (as I’ve heard them called on these channels) often does little more than just break a little piece of it off.
I believe Connor from Durham hearing specialists say crocodile forceps are his plan C.
I have another analogy for “tough as old boots”. My dad use to say “tough as a junkyard dog”! Anyone remember the movie The Sandlot or the song Leroy Brown? 😂 Love from Massachusetts, USA

You can buy olive oil bottles with purpose built nozzles at pharmacies. Before I had one of those I just used a regular eyedropper.

The body sends blood to the area to help with healing, but also does make it swell up

As a kid , when I was having trouble hearing my grandmother took me to the doctor and he pulled out two big black plugs of old wax out of my ears. I could feel the hairs inside my ears getting pulled out when he did it. That hurt!
