- A savory rice dish best served with Tomato Chutney
Ingredients:
2 cups of Nagiah's Superior Gold Basmati Rice
2 cups of Yellow Moong Dhal (mung) or Yellow Split Pea Dhal
1 stick of Cinnamon
1 tsp of Turmeric
Salt
Boiling Water
Oil
1 tsp of Mustard Seeds
1 tsp of Cumin / Jeera Seeds
1 Cinnamon Stick
3 to 4 Dried Red Chilies
1 Small sliced Onion
2/3 Bay leaves
1 tsp of Roasted Coriander / Dhania Powder
1 tsp of Cumin / Jeera Powder
Half a tsp of Turmeric
1 tsp of Crushed Garlic
Boiling Water
2 tbs of Butter
Coriander / Dhania

Wow! Taste is superb! Love this method, Mam. I love it also because in the last 10 minutes boil I’m able to add vegetables of my choice and they are cooked perfectly in that time. This is absolutely delicious. Only differences I made from your method is that I did add curry leaves, ginger, cauliflower and carrot.
My late mom always made kitchari using mealie rice and dryfish chutney on the side or tinfish chutney this looks like a nice change

Hello! How about doing the onion and spices first adding the soaked rice and dhal and continue till done. More flavourful.
love your Recipie ty, I would like to please ask for help from you and from others in the feed, In GP I have more then 1s tried cooking pea Dhal but unlike durban where in a hour your dhal is cooked, I was left trying to get my dhal to melt for over 12 hrs, and on top of that I did soak it in water over night, I love dhal and I do like pea dhal, I dont have a pressure cooker I rather cook over stove top. How do others get thier dhal to cook and melt perfectly in GP? I feel like pulling out my hair on this its a pain in the neck. (( Please Help )) thank you in advance!

Hi Selina, please can you show me how to cook dried grainy mealie rice. .. I'm not sure how to cook that as when I try a whole lot gets burnt at the bottom. I remember my dad used to put it in a cotton bag and cook it somehow and the mealie rice will be cooked as separate grains . I'm not sure how to do that and how will you know it is cooked?
