I'm glad you're showing the failures with the good. I run into this at times. It's hard to explain to people what can go wrong. I just loooove Andrey's designs.
Hi Intake, TBH I didn’t really know anything about the CanAm. The styling is growing on me now that I’ve printed it. It’s like a grand touring Trans Am👍
Nice to see the latest model from Andrey, will be getting it and the TVR Sagaris, there is 1 for sale in England now on Autotrader 68.000 pounds, twice the price of the T350 or Tuscan.
That came out nice Jim! One thing that might help, and I may have mentioned this before…….if you put supports on the inside of the body on the side where Chitubox won’t place ‘em, that can help keep the model steadier on its way up from the lift cycle. At least greatly minimize the shift where some slight sanding is only needed, and you have to do that anyway. What I’d like is the ‘77 Lemans he has coming. That was my Driver’s Ed car among several back in high school. I’m waiting until CGTrader has one of their sales again. I’ve several in mind besides his I’d like to get. ⏰
Thanks again Bill, next time I print a body I’ll make sure to support the inside door panels and inner rockers. I hate to jump up to a medium size support as I like the tiny dimples over craters.
@@ScaleModelExperiment Frank says expect your first week to be horrible. As a keyboardist, I experienced that when MIDI first came around, so I understand how new things take education periods. I'm leaning toward the Saturn 4 Ultra. Your prints are really amazing! Please, keep 'em coming!
Wow, what a great looking Can Am. I tried to buy one in school but dad said no. So I bought a 69 Camaro instead. I still have a soft spot for these to this day.
Looks nice Jame's issue I get I think it's cause I use crealitys cloud to print from I get like little swirl style shapes threw out body but does sand smooth but the swirls I taut are layers it's resin printer not a filament printer... I've actually 3 printers I was considering donating the elegoo mars pro to someone in the modelling community that hasn't got one it was my very 1st one it gave me nothing but headaches 😂 while learning. But yeah sorry for getting off topic that turned out awsome clean and clear what resin u using on your elegoo printer engine a so very detailed ike headers very nice prints james do you print at a set degree in percentages or do u just tilt a little for each part
Hi Keith, I did use the Elegoo Saturn 4 printer for this model. It was printed at 2.4 exposure time with .025 layer height using Elegoo 8k resin. I prefer the smoke grey and vanilla colors because it’s easier to paint light colors over them.
@ScaleModelExperiment thanks yeah I'm using 8k HALOT mage pro use standard cloud supports wit it's build in slicer I have free year chubox pro card came with the printer few weeks ago I don't know if I'll try it chitubox I mean cause phone does cloud for crealitys slicing I find it easyer but ill try the settings on my printer to see if It helps with some neater looking prints. One of my favorite '70s Pontiacs, this car ranks right up there with the Bandit Trans Am. Been waiting for this file for a long time. Does anyone make decals for it?
Hi Matt, Andrey included a file so you can laser print your own decals out. He said it was his first attempt so I hope that he will do more in the future.
One feature I do like about his Can Am is he modeled the rear window slats shut. I had mine open when I designed the print file of the ‘73 Grand Am months ago, and the supports pulled some of them away. So yeah……that’s a good idea to mesh those closed…..less chance of a print failure.
@@ScaleModelExperiment I’d shadow line it if it were me. Resin is too brittle for my tastes to scribe anything open, and that’s when Murphy’s Law will strike and you crack one of the slats. I don’t think too many will notice that there’s no window behind the slats. 🤪
The z axis shift line seems to have occurred on drivers side where the tilt has been applied. Could this be remedied in adjusting this value up or down? Would it be possible to let us know what angle settings you did use? Thank you for sharing.
Hi Airride, I don’t know the exact angle but most times I angle everything 13 degrees in both directions. Is that calculated? Nope, it’s just what I do👍
@@ScaleModelExperiment Thank you Sir, and do you think that the 13 degrees on the side tilt angle is what might have caused the Z axis shift lines and if so, could it be corrected by increasing or decreasing that value?. Just got an Elegoo mars 5 ultra....just trying to soak it all up. Thanks
The tilt and angle get rid of the print lines which this one had none. After talking with friends they reminded me to put supports on the backside of the long flat panels to keep them in place. Just the bottom is not enough. That will eliminate the model from moving and z shifting.
Very nice rendering of a EXCELLENT subject. Being both a Pontiac fan & an owner of one of those cars, the body LOOKS RIGHT! The interior panels & dash are pretty accurate, the seat pattern isn't though(a small detail). That engine is almost to die for in accuracy!! Best detailed Pontiac V8 I've seen in scale. Concerning Z shift - having operated CMM machines, is it possible there is a minor calibration issue(in Z axis)? I only mention it as it shows in all 3 examples. On CMMs, calibration before every run is key. Beautiful work of a beautiful car!
Hi my friend thanks for the info on your previous videos on vacuum forming windows for a 3d printed model My next question is how you measured and designed the pucks I think you called them for the vacuum process Again thanks for all your great advice.
I call them forms or bucks. Most times the designer of the print files will include either a buck or a window to print. The buck you can just print. The window is too thin so I elevate it from the build plate and put 100% coverage with heavy supports to make it solid and print it. Then you can use it as a buck.
The Can Am was a car I really wanted in my youth, but could never afford (either the car or high insurance on it). Via 3D printing, this would in a way substitute for the 1:1. However, as I learn more about the 3D printing process, I'm finding it alarming that there are quite a few "failures" in printing, and unexplainable errors that need extra body work to get printed models "corrected", even for somone doing the printing with a lot of experience such as you have, James. A lot of resin is being wasted, a hidden cost versus buying kits from AMT, Revell and others. I'm back on a budget in retirement, and am becoming less sure of 3D being cost effective. I'll keep watching you guys, and hopefully will learn how to better keep cost of prints down.
That’s the truth Ray, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows with 3d printing. All of us are trying to figure out the best formula of settings angles and what not to avoid misprints. It’s actually fun though. Please don’t get me wrong. It is a challenge to print a perfect kit. I’m working hard at it.
@ScaleModelExperiment they had stripes alone the body lines. They were blue, red, orange and yellow. And maybe more. The interiors were white thit the accent color, or tan. Also they had power locks and windows. I can't remember what engine was the standard. Possibly the Pontiac 400, 455, or Olds 403. I prefer the Olds 403.
