From a marine engineers perspective. Power won’t increase your speed through water but a faster shaft speed and/or greater pitch will along with a lot of other factors. More power and torque will definitely help with running a larger or more aggressive prop. The f60 does rev higher at 6200rmp compared to the f50 6000rpm rev limiter but the ecu on the f60 is also mapped for more air flow and more fuel to compensate compared to the f50 so you will be running your f50 a little lean without the restrictor plate and correct tune. This could potentially lead to some issues in the long run but most likely will be fine. Removing the air restriction plate also voids warranty

I’m looking into this and I’ve also seen people mention that this ECU on the older F50’s use a speed density fueling calculation, therefore it’ll dump more fuel if it reads more air. And that the timing change is less than 1 degree between the F50 and F60 ECU. Any thoughts on this?

Fancy having to pay more for the same outboard, just missing a part or two, great video too mate

Must be that new Yamaha lean burn. Lean burn a hole in the piston…..😂😂

    Would this void warranty?

By removing the air restrictor in fact you have an improvement but you're NOT converting a 50 to 60 because 60 have have a diferent ECU map. Belive me because I know what I'm talking about

You’re correct. As I said in the video the 50hp will only rev to 6,000rpm whilst the 60 will run to 6,200rpm.

@@MattRidolfiFishing both should run at 6000 rpm max and both drop firing on cylinders 2 and 3 after 6300rpm (cut rpm)

Unfortunately it’s not that easy , The mapping on the ecu is different, air fuel mixture will be out of wack . (Lean burn) 💥
I’m a marine technician for Yamaha and I have seen pistons with holes in them because of this reason . Fun at the time though
