  • Skylark 2588 is a 24 fret 5 layer maple neck-thru with a brass nut. It features a 6 way veritone switch, coil taps, out of phase and pre-amp. The ash wood wings are a beautiful blue stain. This guitar shares the electrics with the Aria Pro II TS 600 but has warmer pickups. The Matsumoku Factory built these for an American Company who reneged on the deal. This left Matsumoku with a lot of guitars to sell fast. They sold them to JC Penny's at cost. This guitar listed in JC Penny's Christmas catalog for $399.00 in 1981. That was a steal. They all sold in just a few months. Many become Christmas for young kids. These are great guitars with fast necks. They are quite collectible.
Amp - Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18 watt w/12" vintage 30 cabinet
Dirt pedal - Weehbo Morbid Drive

I bought the skylark 2588guitar from a pawn shop for $350.00. The guitar is in excellent shape with the original case. Very unique guitar. Thanks for the video. There is not alot of info out there on these guitars. Thanks again.!

40 years ago I bought this guitar named OAKLAND in Germany which came in a natural ash finish with walnut stripes. It had 2 DiMarzio Dual Sound pickups which IMHO sounded a little bit too thick and heavy. The workmanship and overall impression were excellent. Very affordable guitar for a then 16-year-old guy. 3 years later in 1983, I exchanged it for an Ibanez Artist Doubleneck. A beautiful video that brings back loads of great memories.

WOW, Rik Emmett of Triumph used to play those Ibanez Double Necks. They are great guitars. I have an Artist Custom 2700 and it's 10.25 lbs. HEAVY.

Very heavy. I played a 2 hours-concert with it at the age of 19 and never did this again. I was done after the gig. And yes, I saw a Rik Emmett concert on RUclips with his Ibanez from the mid 80s.

He's correct. I got the low end model, the red one, for Christmas 1982. My friend's mom, who liked to shop at the outlet store in Tempe Az, found this red model for $60. Even for that time, good deal! A very small scratch on the back was why it was heavily discounted. $60 in 2022 money is: $175. The Red Model sold for $159.95 40 years ago so not bad. Mine's features: neck and bridge Humbuckers. Cream color. Sounds like a DiMarzio. Hardtail chrome bridge. One volume and one tone. A split cool switch. I've owned mine since receiving it and only mods are: I bought and had Grover Pegs installed on it in 1988. The input jack , the cable pushed through the body. I had a Fender Stratocaster jack and plate installed, 1999. It's "retired" now, but I occasionally pull it out and jam along!!! TY!!

I've been playing a friend's 2596 for a while, and I'll be on the lookout for one of my own! Excellent guitars! By the way, if you're into obscure acoustics, try finding a Fannin. I absolutely love mine!

I used to have one of these about 20 years ago except ine was a red finish. I loved mine, I played it so much I wore the frets out. Wish I still had it. It had a fat neck which I liked. I think the Matsumoku factory became Aria Pro if I am not mistaken, correct me if I am wrong

I had the red one, and I also wore the frets out, rather quickly. I think the fret material was too soft, compared to other guitars that I owned. I had at one time about 20 of these Mat guitars. I wish I had refretted the red one.

I have the same guitar. Got it new from the catalogue. While I don’t play it much, I’ll never let it go. The only flaw I see in it is that it’s not balanced weight wise. Has a bit of neck drop when you stand up playing it.

WOW, an original owner, and from the catalogue. That's amazing. These are awesome guitars with tons of tonal features. You can capture mild to wild sounds and the pre-amp adds distortion.
Like you, I would never sell mine. I have guitars that cost 5x more than the Skylark 2588 but don't play as well or sound as punchy. These 2588's are pretty rare and becoming quite collectable.
