    I was in a Wesleyan Arminian family growing up. There are many comments i read in anti-calvinist content from individuals declaring how joyful they are to be free of the shackles of Calvinism. Funny that i made the opposite leap to reformed presbyterianism (PCA). As somebody who has been firmy planted on both sides of this arguement, I can tell you truly that there are misrepresentations coming from both sides. One thing I will say, though, is that Calvinists drive Arminians absolutely nuts. I have encountered very, very few Calvinists who would say that an Arminian follows a damnable doctrine of demons and is part of a Satanic cult. But I've found plenty of folks saying these things about the reformed. Never found a youtube channel solely dedicated to refuting Arminianism, but can think of several dedicated to attacking reformed theology. This is coming from a brother with no ill will toward my wesleyan friends. I consider classical Arminianism as orthodox, but with some unfortunate errors and inconsistancy. Yeah, there are jerky Calvinists who act snobby and arrogant, but, whoa!, theres some not Calvinists who display a high level of venom toward us on the other side. Hey, everybody's theology is gonna get straightened out in heaven. Lets take it easier on each other. Can you affirm the five solas, or the apostles creed? If so, I'd be happy to break bread with you.

      Completely agree that both sides can easily fall into elevating non-essential (that is to say, non-salvific) components of theology into places of utmost importance. And they are very important, but not worth barring all fellowship over. And yea, all our bad theology will be straightened out in heaven. God bless you brother, and all glory be to Christ

      I'm a Wesleyan-Arminian but I hate it when some non-calvinist makes fun of calvinist in comment sections saying that they are here of their own free will. That is a complete straw man of reformed theology. Reformed theology is no free will in spiritual matters, that we are too depraved to choose God unless He irresistibly draws us to Himself, not that we can't make free choices on physical matters such as what to eat for breakfast or what shirt to wear. The main difference between Calvinism and Arminianism is that Arminians think that the draw to God via His grace is resistible and universal, not applied irresistibly to a select few people.

    You are absolutely correct. Many theologians have not taken the time to read the original writing of John Wesley.The Wesleyan tradition is the most optimistic tradition.. Dr. Ken Collins states, after decades of studying christian traditions, the Wesleyan tradition is the most balance, gracious and empowering tradition that meditates the graciousness of Jesus Christ to a needy people.
    To study Wesley is to go on a wonderful journey

    Thanks for posting this, Lucas. These thoughts need to be heard by a lot of people. I've been sucked into Calvinism multiple times because of these very issues you've pointed out. I am thrilled to see high-quality content like yours coming out. We need more channels like yours and I hope one day more non-Calvinistic voices and publishers will gain more traction so that people won't have to fall into the terrible conclusions and beliefs that Calvinism, unfortunately, leads to, but can still be shaped by solid teaching. Not saying those kinds of resources aren't out there (i.e. your channel being one of them), but as you said, Calvinists have capitalized on the growing need for solid teaching. This needs to change.

    This Emanuel Beauchamp from Tampa Bay area. I'm a 3rd generation lifelong Pentecostal. I'm studying Wesleyan Theology because I resonate with it all in my faith and I no longer believe in the Classical Pentecostal doctrines due to their unbiblical nature and the lack of emphasis in the majority of the movement on the Christian character, life, and heart. I'm considering to transition to a Wesleyan Church with my wife. I have one question, what does the Wesleyan doctrine of entire sanctification teach?

    • @methodministries
      @methodministries  Год назад +5

      Hey, happy to answer!
      Entire sanctification teaches that in a moment by faith, God's love replaces sin. So that a believer is filled with love for God and his neighbor. It does not teach that one has no infirmities or cannot fall into sin, but presently in that moment, sin is replaced by holy love. Holy means love is defined by and from God.

    Don’t become a Wesleyan. Become a Calvinist because it’s in fact biblical. I spent most of my years as an Arminian. I grew up in a Full Gospel (Pentecostal) church, then went to a non-denominational charismatic church, then to a non-denominational mega church while simultaneously studying Religious studies at a Nazarene University in the midwest. While studying in the Theology department, I've read plenty of John Wesley's sermons. All this to say is that I was deeply steeped in Wesleyan theology. Nevertheless, when I would read the bible from cover to cover multiple times I started to notice God's Sovereignty screaming from the pages. In addition, whenever I would read Romans 8-11; Ephesians 1-2; and John 6,10,17 it was hard for me to overlook these passages which strongly support Calvinism. Finally, I was reading through Acts and stumbled across Act 13:48 and a light bulb switched in my mind. After that I started to go deep down the Calvinist rabbit hole and started to listen to R.C. Sprouls teaching on the Doctrines of Grace, then I read Clement letter to Corinth, St. Augustine writings, on the bondage of the will by Martin Luther, and The Institutes of the Christians Religion by John Calvin. Then I became completely convinced of Calvinism. Most Calvinist who I follow today all started Arminian and shifted to Calvinism by following a similar stream of revelation like mine. Now I attend a Presbyterian PCA church (although I hold to credo-baptism ironically enough). Calvinism is true biblically so don’t run from it, instead learn from it.

    Hi, i am new to wesleyan theology. I have read it started out very open to the gifts of the spirit and moves of God, but like most churches, allows for it in policy, but not so much in practice. I have been in many churches decades ago where Gods spirit moved in the gifts mightily, i also saw a lot of foolishness, which is why i imagine most churches steer clear to avoid the foolishness, but in turn, miss the moves of God.
    Your thoughts please.

    Hi Lucas - first, God's blessings on you and your wife with your soon to be born daughter! Here's my question, and it's an honest and sincere one: how would you explain scriptures such as Romans 8:28-30, John 6:37-39, John 6:44 and other such passages that suggest election, predestination and perseverance of the saints? I've struggled with these passages for years and still do.
    Thanks!

    • @methodministries
      @methodministries  Год назад +2

      Hey Bruce!
      Romans 8:28-30: Is conditional for those who love God (verse 28). Compare this with 1 Corinthians 2:9. The ones who love are the ones whom God predestines to the image of Christ
      John 6:37-44 teaches that God must draw so we can come. Verse 44 is simply teaching that unless God draws, no one can come. If they do come, Jesus saves He'll save them. Also, John 6:64-65 says some are not drawn because Jesus knew ahead of time who weren't going to believe.
      I would recommend Leroy Forlines and Robert E. Picirilli books! They're great at explaining them!

    Wrong emphasis - become a Christian. I find the same doctrines in Scripture that Calvin does, but I don't 'follow Paul and Apollos', I follow Christ. Beware of secondary names and banners - and the clamor and division that follows. Let's do something together. As a Body.

    Calvinists mock Arminians. Many non-Calvinists claim Calvinism is a damnable heresy. Both are not in the right because they don’t truly understand the other side. This makes no difference in whether we have eternal life and in their correct forms should lead to the same actions.
