Thank you for the review. Now I can save $120 for something that I might actually enjoy.
I am happy I picked up the bottle, but will not be looking to replace it or get the next release. Cheers!
With its 115 proof and lengthy & warming sweet fruit finish, OF 1920 Prohibition Style is still the "King of Whiskey Row"🥃 (IMHO). Cheers Peter..!
I am right there with you. I have this matched up in my sample pool with the 1920. Cheers!
My review of this, comparing it to the 2024 release, comes out on Monday ;)
Definitely looking forward to that one. I have you in for 4 in February. Good luck Carlos. I hope your Puerto Rico trip went well.
@whiskeyisajourney I liked it so much I'm going again tmr lol
Thanks! Cheers Peter!
Thank you Mary! I have you down for two in February. It's only a matter of time before you name hits. Cheers!
Thanks!
First time trying in a give away, but wanted to congratulate you on retiring! I am in my fourth year of teaching science! Love the content.
Thanks for the support. I have you in for 3 entries in February. 2 for the $10 and an extra for being the first to donate. Best of luck!
Thanks! What age group are you teaching. I did middle school my entire career. Cheers!
😂 As I’m watching your initial impressions of the heat and punch of 1924, I took a sip just after pouring some of the 2024 release, and I coughed at how it burnt my throat after I was sipping Eagle Rare 10. Great review as always Peter!
It’s an intense pour for sure. I keep thinking it was going to calm down after a while, but it hasn't. Did it stay hot for you or did you acclimate to it?
@
The 2024 release we have is enjoyable but still “hot” in my opinion. KC 12yr is a better value I think at $60 a bottle. Here in Oregon the Eastside 12yr Double Oaked is $60 and absolutely phenomenal for that price, and head and shoulders above the OF 1924.
If you have them, and you’re into trying blends, try some 1910 and coopers craft blended compared to the 1924.
I don't have the Coopers Craft yet, but I need to get it. A few people have suggested it when I did the JD Sinatra Select.
1920 and 1910 are my favorites
Same here. I have both in the sample pool with the 1924. It will be interesting to see how they do. Cheers!
The 1924 shares it’s 79/11/10 mashbill with Brown Forman’s old Early Times (now owned by Sazerac), which is also part of the Cooper’s Craft blend. It’s also the same mashbill as King of Kentucky. The normal OF mashbill is 72/18/10.
Thank you for that. I wasn't sure if that was the normal mashbill or not. I'm a little disappointed at how hot the bottle drinks. It will be interesting to see other reviews on this release. Cheers!
@ Agreed. I’m hoping to eventually see it in my area (Pittsburgh, PA) or Ohio as I would like to try it, even at it’s SRP. It will be interesting to see if it settles down a bit after some time. Great channel. Cheers!
Frankford is now Buffalo Trace, Glenmore and Stitzle were purchased by Sazerac, I think Shenley is dead and AMS was purchased by Jim Beam.
Oh...nice. Thanks Brian.
Famously Old Overholt was granted a medical exemption by Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon, who also owned the brand at the time. Due to public protest he sold it.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers!
I got a bottle about 6 months ago. Had 1 drink of it, have not touched it since. Super hot. Didn’t care for it at all. Love the 1910. Don’t really care for 1920 or 24.
I wonder how many people think it drinks hot. At 100 proof I didn't think it would have been as hot as it was.
Last yrs is a good bottle. I paid $120 but would feel a lot better had it been around $75-$80. That's where it drinks at for me & I've already decided to pass on this yrs. Cheers!!
I'm happy I got this one. I won't be getting it again next year. I'm one and done.
@whiskeyisajourney I'd recommend anyone hunting these.. Pick up a Knob Creek 12 instead👍
Friar Tucks was selling this for $190. I passed.
I think you made a good choice. Cheers!
I've been looking for some darker richer bourbons in the UK but it's a nightmare to find stuff like Old Forester and even the Single Barrel Barrel proofs of Jack. It's a shame because the UK market would love more Bourbon coming in and not just Buffalo trace lol. I guess this is a trade off for having more Irish Whisky available.
Hopefully other stuff other than Buffalo Trace will makes its way over there soon. Not sure how the current political climate will effect that if at all, but I guess time will tell. Cheers!
Interesting. I really liked the 1924 last year. The new batch sounds nothing like it. I have 2 bottles left of the old one and bought 3 bottles of the new batch. Will definitely need to open the new one and compare. 🥃
I am just 1 review. I am sure others will come out and love it. Please let me know how they compare when you open one up. Thanks. Cheers!
I agree. Last years for me was one of my best pours all year long!
What happened to 1910???
All of a sudden I can’t find it anywhere near me in the KC area
Don't know. Still no issues here.
Flooded your market?! Can’t find it to save my life!
It hit all the TW stores in my area (4 stores) a few days apart and multiple bottles were on the shelf each time I was making my rounds. I don't see them now, but I'd say for about 4 days they were available.
I thinks its the King of Kentucky mashbill & is different one from the Whiskey Row Collection
I thought it was different. I just wasn't sure. Cheers!
HIIIII
Hi! ✌️
That was interesting. I got a couple of these last year and they don’t drink anything like what you described. It hasn’t hit Oregon yet, but I’ll be chasing it when it does. I’m especially interested to see how different the ‘25 version is.
It is an intense pour for sure. I keep thinking it was going to calm down after a while, but it hasn't. It reminds me of how hot some of the barrel proof offerings can be. We will see how it improves over time. I hope you can find the new release and compare them to one another. Cheers!
Thanks!
I got you in for February. Thank you again for the support. Cheers!
Thanks!
One click away in January. So close. I always freak out when I see it slow down and think it's going to stop on a name and then.....click it it flips to the next person. Thanks for supporting the channel. I have you in for February.
Thanks!
Thank you again for the support. I have you down for 1 in February. Cheers!
