Speaking for myself, perhaps, my sadness on his passing and since is because he should have been the MEGA star his talents deserved and a long-held belief of mine is that HE would have been the superstar that all aspiring guitarists from that time and since would look to and admire. Just what other music was in him and just WHERE on the path could/would his talents taken him... What a sad loss, greetings from this Englishman Londoner.

Got poster two weeks prior to his passing with Beck got it at record and tickets store ja Joe's main St Gastonia NC. What a loss, 🤔 think what he would've done. Fusion rock and teaching Jeff Beck, and 🎷🎷🎷🎷 sax with 🎸🎸🎸🎸 guitar rock jazz music 🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶 unreal. Breaks my heart 💜❤️❤️💜 purple too.
I worked at the Boulevard food store and knew of Tommy (but after he passed). I would always sack his mom's groceries and carry them out to her old blue el camino. She had Tommy Bolin stickers all over the dash. I ran into his brother 30 years latter at SC Hard Rock (where there is a nice tribute to TB). I introduced myself and told him about this and he got chocked up. He even told me that had Tommy stickers on the air cleaner. Lot's of love to the family!

I used to go over to their house for dinner.. Tommy's Mom would make her famous "stuffed grape leaves" for supper every Tuesday night.. Rick (Tommy's youngest brother) had me teach him how to play Tommy's songs on the guitar after his death.. That picture at the end is very moving to me.. Thanks so much for posting this.

Sad day indeed. Miss him and all the music that was still to come from him. Thankfully he left us with so much of his talent to enjoy. Can’t even imagine what he could have become. All of his fans know how great he truly was.
Still cry every time I hear this song as I’m experiencing so much sadness. My son has been diagnosed with bi polar paranoia at 24 and hasn’t been the same! Everyday I am I tell him his future is bright but I see the candle burning fast and furious with so much pain in his eyes! I know he is in there somewhere!

Easily one of the best guitaist in more than one genre. Jazz, blues, soft and hard rock. This can't e said of most guitarists even the ones everyone considers great hell always be one of most favorite musicians. He made it with great bands and also as a solid artist. Never forget him.
I saw Tommy when he was with deep purple. He had such stage presence. Whatever “it” is the few have he had it. I can still remember him wailing away on his strat filling the fairgrounds arena in Oklahoma City with his awesome playing

Guess I am not human……25 year old guitar players dies from not just doing heroin……but as his fellow musicians and friends have said…..amazing amounts of heroin…..he was warned……every step of the way by those who cared….he chose heroin…..more and more until it got to be disgusting amounts…..no one who knew him was surprised….he had been the walking dead a good year before he died…nope…no tears for Tommy……he chose his path.
Your music is ageless. Sounds as good now as it did all those years ago. You Tommy are sherley missed and a true gift to all of us. Thanks for that. RIP.

Tommy is the reason why I play guitar to this day. Was lucky enough to see him live with The James Gang in Calgary Canada. Blew me away!

Back when lead guitarists relied more on precision and soul than effects. Tommy was certainly inspiring to me as a guitarist in my day.
