he was my first concert experience...i was 12 -13 yrs old my brother to see him with james gang in ames iowa....he was awesome...he wore a purple lame' top hat. i can still see him on stage playing and spinning....thanks to my brother who taught me what true talent and music is all about. gone to soon...both of them.
This is one of my favorites by Tommy. For those of us that were lucky enough to have played with him and known him, he was innocent to a fault and had no ego. As far as the Blackmore issue, Tommy replaced some guitarists that went on to have great carrers, including Joe Walsh. He was two years younger than me, but years ahead as a talant. My opinion is that we lost possibly the greatest guitarist in the world ever, in Tommy. RIP, my friend.
I was in Heidelberg, Germany when I heard the news, I come from just north of Sioux City in SD and had always loved Tommy, damn he was the best!!R.I.P. Dreamer
I was 14 and my older sister had the Teaser album. My friends were listening to radio rubbish while I was rockin out with Tommy...gone too soon for me too..both of them.
Hard to believe for us old timers this song came out 41 years ago. "Teaser" was such an incredible break though album that still holds up, even today. Thanks for the Post Toastee. R.I.P. T.B.
Tommy was and always will be one of the greatest guitarists/singer/lyricists ever. But there is something special about Tommy Bolin,i know what it is but i cant explain it.One thing i know is Tommy was a very warm and kind person, although i never met him.
wow, me too! and me too! 40 plus years later i find out he didn't sing last verse, not that it matters, Glenn Hughes is fn great, he nailed it big time!!! Maybe before you were happy, but now your thoughts aren't of this place. I only wish you were with me, someone like you can't be replaced.
My brothers Larry loved To My Bolin. He went to a Minnesota college into 76. Tommy was soon far ahead of all at th e time. Tommy Bolin is to be forever to be forever at awe Mmy
I was at Tommy's last concert in Miami. Hated to lose a brother like that but he made me sick of the drug scene, so that was a help to me in no small way. I really loved his song Alexa. Wish someone had to post.
i love tommy i got into his music through 2020,i love this track.Ive been a deep purple fan since 1987,its been good because of you tube i watch his guitar work in deep purple,I love the teaser and the billy cobham album. from shaz in the uk.
My guitar instructor knew Tommy since they were both very young. He always tells me a story about how he gave him a Les Paul Goldtop back when they were first getting started and Tommy just flipped it and sold it! But my guitar teacher always says how gifted he was. I wish I knew Tommy :(
Reminds me of happier and carefree times when I was a teenager and in so in love. I just didn't know it. then. I got to say hello again 30 years later. 😌😘
You really nailed it down,Tommy(GUN) Bolin, was one of the greatest guitarist's/singer/songwriter ever.Tommy was as you say"innocent to a fault",but he did spread himself to thin.If he wasn't on tour with the James Gang or Purple he would be in a studio somewhere doing some work with bands like Moxy and Billy Cobham,he was amazing on "spectrum".I also believe without a doubt Tommy would have been one the greatest guitarists in the world.Jeff Beck was a major fan of Tommy's work. RIP Tommy..
i have 2 solo albums Teaser and Private Eyes . The songs "people" and "savannah woman"" are classics. He was born a few weeks before me and i only remember he died young
Lucky enough to see him twice - what a talent... I learned lead playing to his two solo records! what he might have become, had he survived the treacherous music business - God only knows
I have listened to him since 83....had a bad addiction issue...not a suprise but, if you listen to the lyrics you will see he was lost....long before the addiction
Tommy was not lost. He was not going to grind out music that didn't come from the heart. He was innocent to a fault, and tried to please too many people. A good friend and fellow guitarist, I feel he may have become the greatest talant ever on guitar. His versitility, and taste and vision were unparalleled. RIP, my friend, I will back you up, when I get there...........
Very good. I had seen a most of those photos before but some I hadn`t. You must be as much a Bolin fanatic as me. My brother brought a best of Billy Cobham album back from college and he told me the guitarist was from Sioux City back in 1981. I live only 2 hours from there. I have been one of his biggist fans since and he has had a huge impact on my guitar playing to this time.
Stephen Connors I thought the very same thing... Whaaaaat?? Those 8 people have no taste in GREAT music or value the legacy of one of the greatest - Tommy Bolin!!
I remember Tommy! I seen him at his homecoming concert at the Sioux City Auditorium. I was in the 8th grade at East Jr. High school in Sioux City and I was a big fan. He was my idol!!! I had both his solo albums and two Deep Purple and two James Gang albums. I went with a friend named Vince Verzani.
What a shame that someone so talented is gone. Such a great talent!!! Drugs take too many geniuses away from us. R.I.P. Tommy--wish I could have really known who you were.
I only know Tommy from Deep Purple and I even hardly remember how he looked. I had unexpected dream about Tommy's Strat play last night so I decided to explore his work deeper and deeper...what a brilliant talent! Thanks God for this dream, R.I.P. Tommy.
How come all the good ones have to be gone. Maybe we'll see them in rock n roll heaven. to me his music was so soulful and always touches me anytime I hear it.
I still love this sultry sexy voiced, blonde haired, vocalist and gifted guitarist, songwriter. The tears still roll when I think of our loss to music, qenerations of songs unwritten, and the driving soul needed in this restless world today. Soul & Compassion- Tommy Bolin
Its a amazing and lovely song than singing for Tommy and the version of Glenn Hughes two different timbers but so beautiful both two i love so much this song
Love seeing him with the sunburst strat. Rory Gallagher played one too, worn completely out. These guys just practiced over and over wrote songs and gave their all for their fans. They just never understood what they meant to us. Or they'd both be here. Tragically we lost them both. 5 stars for a great song and artist.
Interesting enough, Tommy's last gig was opening for Jeff Beck, who was a big Tommy fan. The sadest part is that Tommy's backers wouldn't put out the money to pay his backing band members to stay, so there was much frustration. They were losing about $8-10K a week at the end. Another disaster that had a lot to do with the music industry. Tommy took it in stride, but I think it was a contributing factor in his passing. We're still hearing you Tommy...........Your old friend
It as a tragic day when I heard the news of his death. A brilliant and talented writer, guitar player and singer, the whole package. A loss to all of us way before his time. I think I played Teaser until the grooves on each side wore through to other.
Tommy, one amazing musical genius...

Tommy Bolin grew up in Sioux City Iowa. His music will live on forever. Wish you were still here & yes gone too soon. What talent he had. Rip Tommy
I was 14 and my older sister had the Teaser album. My friends were listening to radio rubbish while I was rockin out with Tommy...gone too soon for me too..both of them.

I was at Tommy's last concert in Miami. Hated to lose a brother like that but he made me sick of the drug scene, so that was a help to me in no small way. I really loved his song Alexa. Wish someone had to post.

Some kind of real emotion in his songs that's seldom heard today.

Tommy left us 33 years ago, but his spirit and his music are in our hearts.
Tommy was not lost. He was not going to grind out music that didn't come from the heart. He was innocent to a fault, and tried to please too many people.
