my dear... I am a 45 year old heavy metal lead singer/guitarist.... and I am crying also... you are soooooo not alone... it is the genius of the Bee Gees timeless music that will do it everytime...
I'm a 18 year old male literally crying to this in my room, wasn't even close to being born in the 70's, my parents were but damn what a time and what a song. It captures that era so perfectly its like a time capsule. Future seems bleak, if I had a time machine I would go back no doubt, society will never be the same. also shout out to this scene as well the way they move around the dance floor is beautiful and mesmerizing.
The internet is your time machine. Feel for this generation. They have traded giving you all good for evil; but fear not: Good is forever greater than evil, and those who seek it find it.......
I was born in 62', so I was a teenager when this movie and disco was big. Most of my friends hated disco, but the girls loved it. I remember going to an underage disco at 16 and it was something I won't forget. There were discos everywhere across the country, and Saturday Night Fever depicts that time very well, as does the movie "Rocky". Best time of my life until AIDS got on the scene in the 80's. The seventies had good movies, T.V. shows, good actors, and great music.
I was also a teen when this movie came out. So many memories of disco nights. The Bee Gees catalog is enormous. They really knew how to write a hit song that was also meaningful. Their music was the soundtrack of the 70s to me. Great memories.
Man, here in 2020 during coved 19, I’m 48 and wow, I miss this time and miss the Bee Gees. I’ll admit I’ve had some cocktails and it’s late, but man...what a time, thank goodness for youtube at time like this!
It's funny, many of us hated disco in high school back then. But then, when these songs played at the proms, it was suddenly different. Most of us had seen the film, which had something to do with it.
My wife and I danced to this one night, and the floor was cleared for us and we didn't even know it until after the song was over!! God bless here-she is now a bright star in he night sky-14 months an 4 days ago! She was everything to me!!!!!!
I hope I look in the right direction some night, and have the opportunity to tell her you love her still. But if the universe is just, she doesn't need me to tell her.
one of the most romantic kisses ever put on screen. You can feel they lost themselves in each other's eyes. No vulgarity, no lust, just a man and a woman connecting at the deepest level
Such a well directed scene. They did a great job of capturing that moment when they get lost in each others eyes and everything around them disappears. Nothing else matters anymore, not even the dance contest they are in the middle of. Then they smile in acknowledgment of what they just experienced together and then smoothly finish the dance contest. Combined with this great song, it's flawless.
This dance scene the tango hustle came about during dance rehearsal s as Lester Wilson never showed up n had booked a fashion shoot the very same day so John n his dance partner came up with this ..... dance routine true fact folks 👍🤩😁
I hear this and I get such a poignant burst of nostalgia...makes me cry. The soaring melody ....just takes me back to when I was aged 20... life was a mix; of dressing to the ' new romantic' nines for all day discos - with no worries in my world - and the promise of a fantastic life adventure still ahead of me. I never had a broken heart or gave one, still had all my loved ones round me and I was the happiest I have ever been in my life. Wish I could go back and live every precious moment of those years again. We who were having the time of our young lives in the seventies/eighties were surely the luckiest of all.

(And yes, I bought the movie on video cassette, as soon as it was available.😄)
@@StephSnow1144 Travolta was smoother than silk on the dance floor. Deney Terrio put him through a lot of drills but that just made the diamond shine even more than it already did.
2:25 to 3:11. This is the greatest kiss in movie history IMHO, for one basic reason. When Tony smiles after they kiss, after he wasn't sure how'd she react, was acknowledgement that this is probably the HAPPIEST moment of his life. He's doing what he loves, with a girl he's crazy about, and it is pure joy for each them. Absolute. Watching people doing what they love, creates a reaction in others that's hard to describe. No moment in movie history brings a bigger smile to me, than this one.
I was 6 years old at the time (1977) so I can't say for sure, but I gotta think the moment John Travolta became a megastar was when he gave that smile.
What I like is that the kiss is hidden from us behind their shoulders at first. Like a private moment. The dance floor melts away and they're the center of the world.
@@kevinmathewson4272 yes. Notice that none of the crowd is visible during the entire kiss sequence. They are completely immersed in each other and you can see it and feel it.
I was in a depressed state at the time that movie came to the theatres. I had nobody to hang out with and I had plans to go see that movie with my friend who stood me up. I was devastated when she told me she couldn't go with me. I literally cried crocodile tears and all of a sudden a guy friend of mine named Jorge who was a D.J. at the time told me he would take me to the move. Well after that movie he took me to a disco for the first time and from then on I became a disco queen. I couldn't get enough so when I watch this it almost brings me to tears. I just love watching him dance.
I'm so happy for you that your friend the D.J. took you to the movie & that, after that, you got to actually enjoy the dance 'thing' that was going on at that time by getting into actually dancing! Just to let you know, in case you're not aware, the term "crocodile tears" means fake tears. It sounds like you cried real tears when your other friend suddenly couldn't go to the movie with you. Thanks for sharing about your memories of that time. God bless you.
I saw this on stage in London in 1998 & it truly was one of thee best nights of my life. This album/ film & To Love Somebody, just incredible, i was 5 in 1977, i was most definitely born in the wrong generation as i love this music very much.
Continue to celebrate that brilliant-and-brilliantine bygone era of which you were fortunate to have had a childhood within... while the rest of look on in envy, dear Cortney-of-Worrell.
Cortney, this was my era too, but I lived in Brewster, 50 miles north of the city. Oh how I wish I would have appreciated my youth. It really was the greatest time ever!
@@ty7504 Awww, do you really look at that time in envy? I know you replied to Courtney, but just knowing others, like yourself, look on in envy- it almost makes me want to cry! All of my memories, especially of my HS years 77-80. I so wish I could go back and REALLY appreciate and enjoy every single day once again!

You can't beat the 70's the world was a much better place every Friday and Saturday at the local disco was absolutely awesome wish i could go back in time
My Father passed a month ago, and he absolutely loved the bee gees. Saturday night fever was one of his favorite movies, when I was going through his pictures when he passed he had this dvd included with our family pictures. So I knew it meant so much to him. He loved this song the most because it reminded him of my mom. Every time I hear this song it always reminds me of my dad & how big of an impact he left in my life & why my love for disco and the 70s and 80s are so big 🥺 rip dad ! I love you
What do you guys think when Travolta sees himself in this movie? I mean it must be breathtaking to look yourself back in time and see that you were a hell of a sensation, it’s amazing
I love how she follows him. And he’s so proud. Today’s girls would never do something like that with so much faith. God bless the good old days when things were so much more simple and made so much sense.
@@holdenmcgroin9774 - Original feminism was about human rights, simple respect for women, & simple opportunities for women. I don't mean going back to when women got the right to vote (although that was about human rights, too). I mean the original feminism that needed to win rights for women in the 1960s into the 1980s. The so-called "feminism" that came later - whatever they call it - '2nd wave' or '3rd wave' - that's what got ridiculous, even trashy & extremist. However, the trashy part of that is something most men have gone along with, so they can't complain. {The entertainment industry is to blame for a lot of that, too. Follow the money (the profit motive) in how they began to portray women & girls to draw eyeballs to screens to sell those eyeballs to advertisers, which was putting out wrong, unwise messages to girls & young women.}
One of the most romantic moments in movies... When he looks down at her into her eyes intensely and then they kiss. Yes, those 70's were good for all of you who missed it. The best music of all time-- the 50's thru the 70's. What variety we had! Miss it.
@@justinwillis78 glad i'm not the only one who sees that... had a guy tell me once "men don't dance"... i just looked at him and thought "what a moron".
When I was a kid, my mom always played Bee Gee songs all the time. This is probably my all time favorite Bee Gee song ever and she loved this movie too. To this day I sing along to this song and I'm 20...
+Miranda Miller About 20 years ago, my older son came to me and his Dad and said that we had been right about music all along. The music that we liked and introduced both sons to would last while his was a piece of crap that wouldn't hold up over time. For the most part, he was right. But we heard a lot of crap in our day, it just doesn't get heard anymore.
Ur lucky to have lived throughy that i wish i lived through it im 18 everything just seemed better to me back then i love the music how they dress basically everything
I'm a 28 year old man listening to this getting emotional because my mom showed it to me when i was a kid in that movie Saturday night fever and I just remember being mesmerized by this song and it made me cry when i was literally like 6 years old all these years later and it still has the same effect on me I miss my mom now 😞 just wanted to share that with everyone it makes me feel better i don't have to many people these days and I listen to rap if I showed this to people id get laughed at and that's so silly becuase I like this song more then any song i listen to nowadays thats facts
Hi Jonathan! A quick factoid-Alice Cooper (an old theatrical rock star from the 70's) much later in life admitted he secretly listened to this and other Bee Gees albums as he loved the groove and the vocals. That admission would have ruined his career back then but clearly he had good taste in music too!! I miss my Mom too!! I wish you happiness and a wonderful life 😊
Listen to the music you like and own it--be proud of it with no apologies. So what if they laugh at you? You'll eventually find others with similar tastes.
And that is what confuses me about the movie ending, obviously TM was smitten, but wasn't she as well? Both times they play this song in the movie, it's pretty obvious that the two of them are really into each other, but the movie ending, she just backs away and acts like she is not interested in a romantic relationship, although at the very end she does kiss him. Don't quite get the ending.
@@oldestgamer I agree that the ending is confusing, but I think it’s intentionally vague to be left open to interpretation. Yes, Tony was smitten instantly, but Stephanie needed time to get to know him and value his genuine care for her. I think she begins to notice this during the Verrazano bridge scene. Then something clearly major happens during this scene or that kiss wouldn’t have happened. But, Tony makes a major error by forcing himself on her in the car right after this scene, which almost plays out like the last vestiges of “old Tony“. I’d like to think that they are able to move past that and I think the fact that she even lets him into her apartment at the end is an indication that they will.
Wasn't the 70's just amazing and this movie captures everything that amazing about it. Guy using a hairdryer and taking pride in his appearance. His dress sence was incredible.
At 3:02 they stay watching each other, He smiles because he already knows she's his girl now, that moment is magic you feel that you touch the sky with your hand.
@@nicolasjaimedaza2332 There was deeper meaning to that ending. Yes they ended as "friends" but it was the start to a relationship outside of dance partners that they both knew would lead to a love relationship
In my hometown we had retro nights where they would play 70s, 80s or 90s music depending on the night. Mostly a young crowd, some of the music historian types knew the dances of the times though and would show off ;)
Reading all the comments restores my faith in humanity!!! They can make fun of Travolta all they want but he's still the man! And 40 years later this movie is still one of a kind!
+Bill Bass This is my teen years at their best, must have watched this film + - 20 times, the soundtrack is unforgettable and you'r right, after all these years the only thing to age is us, these songs will not be forgotten.
2:28-3:00 the way they look at each other gives me goosebumps. It's love not lust. I'm so lucky to have a man like this! I love at 3:15 how he smiles and fix his collar then struts off the stage. I played this video back to back literally 5 times now 😂
Worked at 2001 Odyssey in the 70's, lived up the block from the hardware store,, saw this movie 80 times at least! Could recite movie with friend backwards and forwards, could do every dance move

The 70's did me good. It started for me when I was 25 years old and learning to be a hot-air balloonist. The magic of the 70's included love and romance, good jobs, and meeting the Apollo 15 crew. The music was out-of-this world and majestic, fluid and clean. Happiness reigned. Take me back!
Ah. Nostalgia is a double edge sword : It's sweet because we're remembering the best times, the good times of our life. The bitterness comes from the sense that we know for sure that we can never really regain them, they're gone forever.

@@benito12ify How can anyone disagree with your statement?
Handsome dude, with a great smile.
Fuhhgeddaboutit!
A STAR was born.

Thanks I'm lucky I was 11 in 1977 so was lucky to experience the bee gees. Though I wish I remembered more of this time They were carefree easy

What do you guys think when Travolta sees himself in this movie? I mean it must be breathtaking to look yourself back in time and see that you were a hell of a sensation, it’s amazing
I love how she follows him. And he’s so proud. Today’s girls would never do something like that with so much faith. God bless the good old days when things were so much more simple and made so much sense.
you mean feminism? I know what you mean. Women act like men now.
@@holdenmcgroin9774 - Original feminism was about human rights, simple respect for women, & simple opportunities for women. I don't mean going back to when women got the right to vote (although that was about human rights, too). I mean the original feminism that needed to win rights for women in the 1960s into the 1980s. The so-called "feminism" that came later - whatever they call it - '2nd wave' or '3rd wave' - that's what got ridiculous, even trashy & extremist. However, the trashy part of that is something most men have gone along with, so they can't complain. {The entertainment industry is to blame for a lot of that, too. Follow the money (the profit motive) in how they began to portray women & girls to draw eyeballs to screens to sell those eyeballs to advertisers, which was putting out wrong, unwise messages to girls & young women.}

About 20 years ago, my older son came to me and his Dad and said that we had been right about music all along. The music that we liked and introduced both sons to would last while his was a piece of crap that wouldn't hold up over time. For the most part, he was right.

This scene was truly love language without the use of words. So romantic
@@oldestgamer he didn't do anything while she was being raped. It makes sense why she backed away
@@oldestgamerwomen
