    Thank you so much for providing such valuable tips!! Is it possible if you could also provide a video in which you outline some advice on how to succeed in ODS? The PRTs? Exams? What you would have done differently to succeed, other than what you listed in this video of course. Mahalo!

    Got done with MEPS. being there on time is true. Had to be there at 6:00 am sharp or they will yell, I got there at 6 sharp. It was too late. I had to redo it and was there at 5:30 am -freezing and steady at the door-and that time they let me in. Good lesson to learn with the Navy.

    Hey, I'm about to go to ODS and am getting everything together. Random question, what size/type of blanket is allowed? Do you fold it up at the end of the bed? Loving your content!

    • @itsestelarojas4713
      @itsestelarojas4713  2 года назад +1

      King size would be too big. I would bring a full size. You will be given a wool blanket but mostly everyone slept on top of that so they didn’t have to remake their beds in the morning for inspection. We would put our blankets in our closet during the day.

    The Navy Nurse, thank you for your tips. I will be going to ODS this fall. What is the best way to physically and mentally prepare for ODS?

    • @itsestelarojas4713
      @itsestelarojas4713  5 лет назад +6

      Congratulations! To physically prepare for ODS: run, do push-ups and sit-ups, planks, and make sure you can swim and feel comfortable treading water. To mentally prepare: go to the ODS website and look up the required items to memorize. Have those things memorized (Sailor's Creed, Navy rank structure, 11 general orders of the sentry, etc) before reporting to ODS. And just know that the people at ODS are trying to make you into an officer and a leader. Some of it will be playing games and you just have to play the game. Also, be a team player and work well with others.

    Hey Estela ... random question I'm having some difficult finding an answer for: What happens after ODS? I've submitted my packet to the Selection Board (Supply) for a commission as a reservist. Will I just go back home and begin my once per month drill? Or will I have further schooling/training for my job that will require me to go away longer?

    • @itsestelarojas4713
      @itsestelarojas4713  3 года назад +2

      Hello Evan, I am not a reservist but I imagine if you have more schooling needed for your job, you will go there after ODS, then back home for regular drilling. You should get follow-on orders after ODS if this is the case.

    Are we able to go home after Bootcamp and pack our things ? If I will go as HM and that is 19weeks and then the Officer program. DO I need to pack everything before going to Bootcamp?

    • @itsestelarojas4713
      @itsestelarojas4713  Год назад

      If you are enlisting as an HM, you will not go to the Officer program right after. You need to have a Bachelors degree to be a nurse in the Navy. After bootcamp, you typically go straight to your duty station since you have not really accumulated many days of leave (vacation time).

      Hey, I see you're already an RN so I'm not sure if you're commissioning or enlisting. I'm not sure of your branch but the following info is for Navy! If you are enlisting, you'd actually go to A-school/corp school in San Antonio Texas directly after graduating bootcamp. Just before graduating, almost everyone will get orders for the specific day they leave (It's not always the next day. I know some people who left the afternoon after they graduated, and some who left three weeks later). You, along with other sailors, will board a bus insanely early in the morning and be transported to the airport. You'll likely be flying with other sailors as well, but some will have different travel times and destinations (since some are different rates and will be going other places) throughout the day. Make sure to take advantage of the USOs at the airports, the staff is usually very friendly and you can rest and relax while you wait for your flight. If you're already an RN, I hope you get commissioned soon! In any event, I wish you all the best in your military journey. Hope this helps!

      @@WHDIFOREVER thank you very much for the info. Here is my pathway since I’m not a citizen yet. Im enlisted as E3 for HM rate. Then I will do A school right after Bootcamp. My recruiter has not mentioned when and how to be an officer. What I just know for now is I will go back to my original place after A-school. So should I pack my gadgets and A school requirements once I take off for Boot camp? I have nobody to bring things like others I’ve watched .

    • @WHDIFOREVER
      @WHDIFOREVER Год назад +1

      @@jessicabayodarn852 (WARNING: This reply is very detailed so it's a bit long). I understand your situation. I actually know a few people who've had similar situations and had to enlist. One guy I met was a doctor in his country but had to enlist because he wasn't a US citizen. It's a bit unfortunate because you'd otherwise be able to commission directly instead of going the long route of enlisting first. But don't be discouraged, you can still put in an officer packet as soon as you can. I'm hoping your recruiters were upfront with you and explained the process instead of simply wanting you to enlist and increase their quota. But even if they didn't, make sure to do your due diligence even as early as A-school. Start asking instructors, etc., how you can start the process. So as soon as you become a citizen (which shouldn't take too long, I've seen people get their citizenship within a few months, although each case is different and can take longer). This is YOUR journey and you'll have to be on top of it even if others are a bit dismissive or uninterested in supporting you with it. Ensure to keep asking questions, talking to whoever you need to, to push your packet through as soon as you can. Keep pushing and you'll meet others who are happy to help.
      Regarding what to take to bootcamp: I know they now allow recruits to bring their own sneakers. They didn't always do this so I'm not sure what the specific criteria is, if any Ask you recruiter to make sure. You can also bring your hygiene/cosmetic products that you normally use at home, as long as it will fit in your A/B drawer (to save space in your A/B drawer, your shampoos and conditioners, sanitary products, and body washes can be stored in the shared locker, but know that others may use it without your permission).
      As far as other items you wish to take to A-school, you may have to get someone who plans on attending your bootcamp graduation to bring those items for you then. Before leaving for bootcamp, you can pack a bag with items you want, then give your loved ones instructions to bring the entire bag. That way, you'll have exactly what you want and need for A-school. Put things in there like your phone and charger, computer and charger, civilian clothes and shoes, snacks, make-up, jewelry, books, tracking/activity watches like Fitbit and Apple watches, sunglasses, etc. Another alternative to this is to pack your bag before leaving for bootcamp, then have your loved ones ship the items to you when you get to A-school.
      Another option would be to bring all those items to you when you arrive to bootcamp, and have them store it with your other stuff until you leave. However, I won't encourage you to do this because 1. When you arrive to bootcamp, you will literally be running off the bus. For the next few hours, you will be required to do most things on the go and mostly running or walking very quickly. You won't want the hassle of a bigger bag with you since no one will help you with it. And 2. Instructors are expecting recruits to arrive in the frame of mind ready for bootcamp. I don't think they would take too lightly you arriving with a suitcase and might be peeved if they have to help with it. I've never had this situation so I could be wrong and they may be very nice and accommodating about it.
      I encourage you to see about your citizenship as early as you can, even during bootcamp if possible. From what I've heard and seen happen, I think the military in general is great at this and you may even get help without asking.
      I hope this very long response was helpful and you have an amazing military experience. All the best!
