Oh my gosh I operated this show and opened it back in '82. Even walked down IN computer Central. There was nothing like opening EPCOT. I never thought I'd miss those days. Thanks for posting! You took me down memory lane!!!
Was that the actual computer room for Epcot? or was it just a set? I'm guessing they closed the ride in fear of hackers seeing all their equipment if it was the real thing you were watching
@@itubeutubewealltube1 Most people didn’t understand how computers worked back then and that room was often always manned by computer scientists and some of the highest achieving technicians in the US that were there to ensure it’s safe and compliant operation.

The offices for the World Key Information Service were right above the computers behind the glass. There was a double-door to the left which we passed through and then there was another set of doors that led to the computer room, and an elevator on the left that took us upstairs to World Key. Another I.T. (Information Services) department was also there called "Scientific Systems."
I'm absurdly excited for this. I mean, how do you not love the original Toby from Sweeney Todd singing a peppy English Music Hall song about computers? It's crazy enough to work! THANK YOU kind stranger.
I agree!! As a kid I loved this song. I didn’t know Sweeney Todd yet. Fast forward many years when I watched a video copy on a high school choir trip and fell in love. Now I’m totally geeking out. I’ve been a Ken Jennings fan since I was 9 and didn’t even know who he was yet! :)
This is incredible! Mike from WYW had audio he released a little while ago and I thought that would be the closest thing I'd get to seeing this show. What an amazing piece of history!
It was seeing his post and reading comments that said that no one had ever seen video of this show, that made me remember I had shot it on opening week! I used to do the same thing as he did, when I was a kid at WDW... bring in an audio tape recorder to shows like "Carousel of Progress" just to memorialize it for me. The sound those tape recorders picked up was never really that good... and I'm amazed by how (relatively) good the sound from my video recording of this show is! Thanks for watching!
Would be cool to see more projected shows like this. Seems like they underutilized the trick from Haunted mansion and would have loved to see more stuff like this
I used to really enjoy this show and the pre show area with the beaver that helped you design a roller coaster ride (“gee, that’s swell”) and the AT&T map showing how calls were rerouted across the country.
I remember this, but I also remember one with some lady. It took me hours to find this. I searched for Sperry Epcot and found this! Thanks for sharing!!
This footage is amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing! I don’t think I ever got to see this in person - I only had a copy of the song from my sister’s record. This is a true gem. It’s an overdone phrase, but not all heroes wear capes. Unless maybe you do. :)

I so remember watching this during our Easter Vacation Epcot trip of 83! Thank you so much for posting this was a REAL BLAST from the past.. I remember it was near where Guest Relations is near SpaceShip Earth. Another Great Sherman Brothers Song!
I saw this in person with my parents on our first trip to WDW Epcot Center. It was a standing type of exhibit/attraction. Thank you so much for filming this!
Early the Pearly was played by Ken Jennings fresh off his run as Tobias in the Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Wow I was positive that at the end he was going to say Hail Hydra. This looks straight out of the MCU and the Winter Soldier. This is so cool, thank you for uploading this!
If it were made today, yeah. Disney is all about IP milking. They don't like that Universal beat them to the punch with WW of Harry Potter and soon to be Nintendo Land. 😂👍 _Hail Hydra_
They made this because humanity just came out of judgment day and the war with the machines. Nobody trusted computers so this was made to assure everybody. Ironically, personal computers became the new hot item. So even came with keyboards and speakers!

Shoutout to Offhand Disney
Thanks to Offhand Disney, this videos viewcount is going to skyrocket! 😁 🚀
Yup. Came here right when it was mentioned. I'm a huge Disney fan and never knew of this attraction. Thanks for the upload!!
Offhand Disney is outstanding
He's awesome!

EPCOT has really become a shell of its former self since then.

I knew that voice was incredibly familiar! I played that part in summer stock in the 90s
Up for some Patty cake ?
"That's why I'm a rooter, for the computer-- everybody needs a friend!!!"
Whoa. That line is more relevant today than EVER, lol!
And the song’s pretty catchy, too

- I have this show on VHS. One of these days.... hoping to find a way to transfer to a digital version for upload.
I think there are some companies that do that.
Costco converts vhs to digital. Affordable

Linked from Offhand... The value to Disney history that this video exists is priceless.
I used to know every single word of that song. I used to listen to it over and over again.
That's crazy you never lost the footage after 37 years!
Lou from WDW has mentioned this attraction several times over the years, glad to finally see what it actually looked like lol
Loved this show. Thanks for the video.
Great video thx! Sherman Brothers song yes!
Thank you for the video!
Yes Thanks to Offhand Disney for pointing me to your video.👍
This is fantastic! Thank you!

Amazing! Do you have footage of the original spaceship earth (pre walter cronkite)
Wish I did!
OhLook wow! I didn’t know there was a pre Walter Cronkite version.
It seems the first few minutes are missing but I don't mind.
Do you have the original spaceship earth? No footage of the 82-86 version exists!
I saw this in February 1983 and its the reason I never saw Backstage Magic in all the years I went back to EPCOT over the next decade!
Earlie beats Julie and I/O any time if you ask me!
The song is giving Jolly Holiday vibes! IK they are both by the same writers (the Sherman Brothers) so that makes sense
I'm kinda curious what the guys at the console were working on.
Do you have any more footage of the park during your press preview?

What do you happen to also have access to that computer song instrumental used in the opening credits?
It's just the exit music from the end of the show (and on the end of the video) that I looped in the opening, so it would have some "life" to it.
@@BlinkCreativeBoston 👌🏼 I still can't believe I've got this piece of Disney history back! Thank you.
Who was the singer?
Yikes.
