I'm 72. When I was 18 - 20 years old, Ricky Nelson was my favourite singer. I used to admire at his good looks and think to myself,"you lucky b.........d. Not only are you famous but with those looks you can have any girl want" RIP Ricky.

Adrian Larkins so sad 😔. He seemed like such a sweet soul, and I'm young, so he was way before my time, but he was a great musician, and I totally respect him. Another great that least this world too soon was Eddie Cochran, and of course Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens- I mean, good Lord, what if those two guys had lived to be old. So tragic, it makes me want to cry 😥.

He had a lot of joy too, though! This last year of 1985, he met his idol, Carl Perkins! They were arguing who would open for whom the next year! Also, Carl Perkins, was a Favorite of John Fogarty & Fogarty & Rick we’re going to do something together! Rick had a new album coming out, he just had to replace the Scratch vocals! Plus, he was gonna help Matthew & Gunnar with their careers! He found a lady to travel with, Helen Blair! She took great care of him, according to one of his twins! He had so much going for him! He really had a great last year! Remember the last chorus to Gypsy Pilot? “He lived everyday! He loved everybody & he hopes you do the same!”

Rick was scheduled to play 2 shows both sold out & was asked to play a 3rd which he did to another sold out crowd! Pat Upton never got over that the guys didn’t just take a commercial flight as he suggested, when the plane delayed them by 4 hrs with mechanical problems.

There were probably others but these were my favorites. I regret that in the summer of 1985 Rick was preforming at a fair in Carmi Illinois not too far from my hometown of Robinson and I did not attend the show. Thanks for your comments.

This was probably one of his last concerts. It was like watching footage of the Space shuttle challenger on that fateful day.
Ricky was one of the greats who never truly was given his due as an artist. It seemed a shame that just as interest was picking back up, the unthinkable happened. He'll always be remembered.

Really makes you feel good to step back in time to those good old days and 'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet'. Rick was a comedic scream even as kid and in his later years portraying himself as a fraternity member with his best friend/sidekick 'Wally Plumstead' (Skip Young) - was just too much....

Debbie Rogowski's earlier comment was correct. I'm 70 years old, and what the song is about is, that people knew exactly who Ricky Nelson was, but they wanted to hear his many songs that had been #1 on the charts, and he did all new stuff that he had made, and the audience were very disappointed. Can't blame them, his old songs were fantastic songs. If he were still here today and had a concert, I would want to hear his hit songs from the 50's. Yep, I'm 70 years old, and he was without a doubt, probably the most talented singer from the 50,s, including Elvis, Chuck, Frankie and Fats.

He was so well loved in UK. Thought his career was over in USA. All he had to do was come to UK. Totally loved.

He was on the upswing in the US! Almost had an album ready to be released in the new year...they just needed to replace the scratch vocals! Also, he met his idol, Carl Perkins 2months before the plane crash...they were arguing who would open for whom! Carl had said he would open for Rick’s band! Imagine the thrill?! Also, he met John Fogarty who also had the same idol, at The Class of ‘55 recording with those made famous by Sun Records! They all came to sing together! Rick sang with Carl Perkins, Marty Stewart & another from the UK! The Judds were singing, the Cash’s were singing, John Fogarty, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison & a bunch of others! That was also in September! Fogarty also idolized Rick & they were planning on doing a few things together! Plus, he was going to retire that plane when he got home & help his twins with their careers! He had plenty going for him & a new love in his live who really took care of him, according to one of his twins! That was probably one of his best years, believe it or not! Love to him & his band! ♥️🌹🌿

There are a lot of good lyrics in this song, and one of the best is 'If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lot of luck. But, if memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck.' Bravo Ricky! I get that he wanted to play new music as well as his oldies, and this song DID spring out of a real life experience at Madison Square Garden.

when i was 14 (a long time ago), oh, how i loved ricky nelson. in interviews that can be seen here on you tube, even though from hollywood royalty, he was always so gracious and self deprecating. i do wonder what would have become of his career. may he rest in peace and power.

The last time I read Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All-Time, Rick Nelson was listed at 91. There was also a book released by Rolling Stone in 1982 (something about 25 years of rock 'n' roll where they rated the performers and each of their albums). It was written that Rick Nelson got a bad rap because he got his start on the family TV show, but that he was actually very talented.

Having met him several times in the 1970"s, it was clear to see that in addition to his oustanding talent, he was a very decent guy. Despite his fame and good looks, he was not at all taken with himself. In fact, he was quite shy. It was a tragedy that his family and fans lost him so young.
