The entire Nelson family worked together to cultivate the show’s success. This included sons Ricky and David.
The boys joined their parents on the radio once they were old enough. Their charm helped the show make the move to TV.
TV shows about families, both real and fictional, live or die by the personalities of their characters. The Nelsons were fortunate enough that everyone loved them, especially Ricky and David.
The lines between fantasy and reality were often blurred for the family. Their show served as an image of the ideal family for viewers to look up to. It was a difficult image for both boys to maintain.
One positive aspect of the show was that it became the perfect platform for Ricky and David to launch their careers.
Ricky sang his songs on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. His performances made him a teen heartthrob and one of the world’s first chart-toppers.
David preferred to work behind the scenes and helped direct several episodes. Once it ended, he went on to act in and oversee several other successful shows and movies.
The Nelsons continued to wow audiences for years until their eventual, tragic deaths. Ricky lost his life in a plane crash, and David was the last surviving family member until he lost his battle with colon cancer.
The boys earned awards and accolades while they lived and after they died. They also developed a large fan base that will help keep their memory alive.

Ricky Nelson actually played the drums and he sang "I'm Walking" on his parents's TV show in April 1957 when he was 16, almost 17 years old. He was an excellent drummer, guitar player, and singer. He was an excellent actor and comedian, too. David Nelson was an excellent older brother to Rick. When Rick Nelson turned 18, he insisted on having people call him "Rick" instead of "Ricky," but most people didn't listen to him. David Nelson was an excellent actor, comedian, and singer. He was also a very good guitar player.

At age 75, I watched "Ozzie & Harriet" from its beginning in 1952 & loved it! Years later, 1973, my
family became one of the 1200 "Nielsen" ratings families in the U.S. where what we watched
determined how T.V. shows are rated & whether they should stay on the air! When Ozzie had his
second series "Ozzie's Girls" on in 1975, we made sure that our television was always on the show,
to give it the best chance of survival! Unfortunately, we did not know that Ozzie was ill then & the
show could not continue! Americans my age will always remember "The Nelson's"! R.I.P. Ozzie,
    Harriet, David & Ricky!

He purposely walked off of the stage & started mingling with his fans! I kept being asked by the women that went to see him in concert why are you here because I’m his youngest fan there that day! I was born in the wrong generation literally. I didn’t ask him to sign my yellow colored shirt. I’m still regretting this.

They are the most pleasant, polite, down to earth young men who are very respectful to their fans. The posed for photos, signed autographs, asked the questions about their fans, and never rushed the fans through the meet and greet reception. They remained until everyone was able to go through the line. Their tribute concert was wonderful and the song Just Once More is absolutely beautiful. They are always welcome to return to Oneonta NY.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Rick's death was made all the worse because of the false rumors that his DC-3 plane caught fire due to his free-basing cocaine. A very thorough investigation revealed that a heater on the plane malfunctioned and started the fire. In addition, the two pilots survived the crash on New Year's Eve 1985 and were found to not have adequately warned the passengers that the plane was in trouble and taken the necessary steps to try and get everyone off when the plane crashed and then burst into flames outside DeKalb, Texas (on its way to Dallas)

My wife & I watched every episode and we were sad when it came to an end. The show had morals something the lacks today. As luck would have it Kris he bother Mark and wife Pam Dobler eat at a diner (Zinn's Diner) I owned on 06/03/1993! Unfortunately, I missed seeing them by only minutes. I had such a CRUSH on Kris as a kid, so it was a drag I missed seeing her.

Rick Nelson's divorce from Kris Harmon was incredibly acrimonious. Rick ultimately had to do concerts in even the smallest venues just to come up with alimony and child support payments. Kris Harmon even fought with the family after Rick's death over his life insurance

Rick Nelson also co-starred in a television movie special with singer Joanie Somers called "On the Flip Side" in 1968. Someone gave me a copy of the soundtrack and the songs on it were all pretty cheesy, but I guess popular for the time!

@@FactsVerse It's been over 30 years ago. The only real detail about an episode was Ozzie was complaining it took Harriet too long to get ready to go out. They were going somewhere and Harriet said she needed to get ready Ozzie cracked a joke and when he turned around Harrier had changed, done her makeup and had her purse.

I read the article on the plane crash of Eric (aka Ricky) Nelson shortly after it happened.
    >>> It had nothing to do with a faulty heater: the plane's CG (center of gravity) was too far aft (i.e., to the rear) at the time of take-off; and, the plane, thus, could not generate enough lift to climb out.
The article concluded that there were too many people piled into the back of the plane.
(The pilot should have known better: but, with Nelson giving the orders, the pilot did as he was told.)

The weight and balance was ok
Due to material shortages, the war time
DC 3s substituted magnesium for aluminum in some of the structural members, particularly the fuselage
      The faulty cabin heater started
smoking and the pilots did their best to bring the bird down quickly but highly combustible magnesium is a little quicker
