I bought one of these 4 months ago - F nib. It is a nice tool, I upgraded it with Caran d'Ache converter and filled with Edelstein Onyx black ink. Two things I don't like: it dries up after ~3 days of no use and barrel on my is constantly getting loose (unscrewing from section by itself, super annoying). Other than that, nice pen for daily use.
Thank you Teoh! I've been watching your videos for a long while, and I always mean to comment, but forget by the end! Just wanted to say, thank you for the quality content, and I really enjoy your artwork!
Thanks for a good "basic" review. Especially, thanks for not wasting time speculating about what company made the pen, as so many reviewers do; I don't care who made it. I got one a couple of weeks ago, medium nib, and have found it to be a stellar writer, nearly as good as any pen I have, and I have a few very expensive ones. At $10, I just got another one. It blows away Platinum Preppys, Pilot Metropolitans, Lamy Safaris, etc.
As I mentioned in the thread where I recommended the pen to you, mine arrived damaged (cartridge was stuck in the barrel and could not be removed). But the pen itself is of high quality. I agree.
【• Pineapple•】 Thanks. I eventually did get it out with a paper clip. I like the pen now, although it takes several strokes before the ink starts flowing. It is ok for the 10.00 i paid.
For me it's been decent. My major complaint is since the grip is slick metal it gets really slippery when my fingers sweat or get oil on them. I know a lot of pens have a slick grip but it just seems worse with this one maybe because it's fairly hefty.
The smooth grip section would be a huge problem for me since my hands tend to be on the more oily side and I sweat alot if I write for a certain amount of time, even something like the twsbi diamond 580 AL R's grip is a lot better for me.
Based on this review I bought one of these pens; very good pen, definitely worth the money and as a practical matter, works just a well as fountain pens costing much, much more. A great drawing pen. Thanks much for sharing your thoughts on this product.
I don't think I would get this pen. My first fountain pen as an adult was the Platinum Preppy. It was less than $4; the shipping cost more. But, for the pen plus shipping it was still less than $10. It is not the pen that I recommend, even to those who are just beginning their fountain pen adventures. I have three TWSBI Ecos, 2 with EF nibs and one with a 2.2 mm stub nib. I would recommend any of those pens over any of my other pens, including my two more expensive pens. The Eco writes right away, even if it is not used for as long as 6 months. My stub nib Eco fell out of my bag and landed on the floor of my car's back seat. I did not find it for 6 months because part of that time I spent hospitalized. Yet when I did find it, I tried writing with it and it wrote perfectly. I feel as though a beginner to fountain pens might get frustrated if his or her pen does not write right away. That's why I recommend the Eco over something like the Conklin Duragraph.

OK, so, knowing what I know about markup prices, & knowing that this Amazon pen is made in China, I'm wondering how long it will be before we fund exact duplicates on eBay for US$2.98.
@@teohyc of COURSE I know that, Teoh, and you KNOW I know that, it's more about the idea of Poetic Justice, if that's something that translates easily. Y'know?
Just bought this pen, decided to go with a cheap one that would come tomorrow before my first day of in person school to try out the fountain style and see if I like it enough to invest in a slightly better one down the line.
Very nice review and demo. I just have a suggestion for future reviews. When you say “ok this pen is good enough”, it doesn’t really help. Good enough for what? Compared to what? If it is “good enough” it means it is not just “good” then what specific thing about it that made you say good enough instead of just “good” or “very good?”.
I'd like to try this pen but I definitely want the ink Caron d'Ache ink cartridge converter. I see a couple out there. Is there a particular model of converter I should order?
It seems to be known as European/International standard cartridge size; many chinese copies use that system, like those popular lookalike jinhaos/wingsung, to name a few
Hi! I left this message over on another one of your videos where you have been helped out SO much being new to using fountain pens. What I really want is a fude nib because, only from what I've seen of course, it gives more expressive lines which I love with watercolor. But, a very sweet friend, knowing I was one day wanting to change from my microns over to a fountain pen for sketching/watercolor and that with my medical bills and a new surgery coming up(of course the beginning of the year so new deductible, sorry, fresh on my mind😳) so she bought me this pen in a fine nib (she didn't know which nib and they don't have a fude of course, but I would wonder if the medium would give even better lines and the fine for writing) anyway...sorry...so she got me the pen, a universal converter and waterproof ink...so amazing. I put it together with the included cartridge to try out and learn a bit from it before wasting the good ink. I pressed the cartridge in as it said and as far down as it would go. The first afternoon it was awesome, loved how it wrote, especially with my rheumatoid arthritis and it being of good weight being metal I just had to guide it, not use pressure so felt the difference in my hands from a regular pen right away...so excited. So the next morning it made some lists and random things just to get more used to how to write with it and noticed a bit of ink where it screws the body to the section (I apologize if I'm using the wrong term😳) and when opened could see some ink on the cartridge itself, but not too much so figured it just happens. Then later I wanted to show my husband how amazing it was and how I'll definitely be needing more and different nibs (of course he knows I was just wishing and teasing him same as when I told him I needed a fountain pen for sketching and showed him one that was seven hundred, just as a joke) so, I wrote a couple things to show him how it wrote beautifully, then when I looked down to write again I realized my fingers were covered in black ink!! It wasn't dripping out, but just touching that connection of body to the section and more is on, and not a small amount. So ran carefully to the kitchen and opened it up nothing was obviously pouring out, but ink was in the body part and a lot in the cartridge, top to bottom and a good amount sitting in a area where the cartridge is seated. I cleaned everything and dried what I could and left it to dry on paper towels. The cartridge, when just laying there isn't pouring out ink, when moved of course it comes out but I expect that. So, I'm super confused as to what I did wrong, I watched so many videos on set up and followed directions. Maybe it was just that cartridge? I have the converter i thought I'd fill and try, but not sure what I did to make it leak. I only wrote with it and had it laying flat when not in use. But I do really love the simple look and the feel of the weight of it and of course the cost...so any ideas, from anyone, of what to try or where I went wrong are greatly appreciated. Since it was a gift I'm not sure how to ask for help from Amazon and definitely don't want to make my friend feel bad because she did SUCH a nice thing. Sorry for the long comment, I just was super excited and now frustrated and confused. I always love all your videos, art and reviews and articles...you're so thorough about all the important things and have helped me a ton!!! Thank you so much!!!
Remove the ink and clean the pen first. Attach the ink converter then submerge the pen nib beneath water to pull the water into the ink converter. If the pen is dripping, there could be a leak inside the ink converter. It's like how you can hold water in a straw if your finger is covering the back end. Next push the water out using the ink converter to see where the water is coming from. It's working fine if water comes out from the pen nib. But if water comes out from behind the grip section (ink converter attachment area), then there could be a leak.
@@teohyc oh so smart to use water!!! I'm so dumb!! I was going to use ink :/ As soon as it leaked while having the cheaper cartridge in there I pulled it apart and cleaned it all so that no ink would dry anywhere at all. So tomorrow I'll try the converter with water....so smart about the water. You're awesome! Thank so much!! I did find a Duke d2 fountain pen with a medium nib and a fude nib for like $22 ... I've seen many of you who do the ink and wash i love use that type, just not sure if that's a good deal or not but I assume it's a much better pen, or no? I'll try the water thing first thing once I'm able to use my hands in the morning :) Thanks so much!!!
I was wondering about this pen. Thanks. YOU are responsible for my new fountain pen addiction. I now have 3 good ones, and 6 really awful, cheap pens.
