    I was searching youtube for lamancha specific videos and other goat related things (as that's what I will be starting with) and I think the very first one I saw was your breakdown of costs keeping goats. I watched a few others on your channel and was hooked! From countless birthing videos, to cost of keeping, you go over pretty much everything. I like that it's also learning what worked/works for you, or learning together when you try something new (like the necropsy). Your channel is refreshing to listen to and has easily become my favorite. You're a kind, passionate soul and it really shows in your videos :)

    I have a mug, but if I won one, my Honey would have one, too! LOL I found your channel through the Fermented February 2022 collaboration and stayed for "all the things"! Delighted with one of the first videos I saw of yours that showed lots of things you made with goat milk. I was immediately amazed that butter and cheese (other than Feta-style) could be made from goat milk! Having only been around pet goats, I was intimidated by dairy breeds of goat and you helped show how lovable and managable a dairy herd can be. And then, the fermenting, the gardening, the rabbits, bits about family and freeze-drying... What's not to love? I adore learning from you and seeing different possibilities and perspectives on real "homesteading" stuff.

      @@SageandStoneHomestead I just reslized maybe it was 2023 when we found your channel (rather than 2022) but I feel like I found a place where I've kind of always been, if that makes sense? We got our 4 hens from TSC in April 2022 and started trying our own ferments (with the proper equipment) in 2023. LOL Milestones that flag certain years... I’ve followed several homesteading families over the past 3 years. Your channel is absolutely the best site for actual learning everything you could possibly want to know about goats and rabbits. You’re the most comprehensive teacher I know of on you tube. I watch everything you do. You’re down to earth, no muss no fuss and when ridiculous comments come your way, you quickly deal with them and move on. I love it! I have a small 5 acre homestead in southeast Texas at which my main focus is fruit and nut trees along with vegetable gardening. I have 2 Nigerian Dwarf females, (no male yet), a male and female New Zealand rabbit(who just had babies) and 10 chickens. I had ducks but decided earlier this year I was not cut out for duck herding. lol. I’m 67 and live alone. This has been the hardest I’ve ever worked and the most rewarding. If you and Levy did butchering classes for both goats and rabbits I would love to sign up and would gladly travel cross country to meet you both. Let me know if that’s in the cards. Best of luck and keep up the great work. We need more good people like you guys.

    I found you by my recommended videos on the homepage. I had recently started watching more homestead channels, like Little Mountain Ranch, and it was the goats in the thumbnail that caught my attention. After watching one video, I went thought your channel and saw the garden tours form last year, and fell down a rabbit hole of watching a lot of your old videos. I would love to be able to own goats one day, or even have a garden as large as yours with the high tunnels, but I would have to move out of the city I moved too for that, so it would have to be in the far future before I would ever get to that part of my life. Instead I live vicariously through channels like yours.

    @ 6:11 I don't know, it'd be very hard to prefer anything over Backstraps from Venison.
    And to the question @ 12:35.... Clean the cups and sterilze your soil. But also, instead of poking holes in the soil to plant your seed, fill your cups to desired depth, soak the soil good and plant the seed directly on top of the soil. Then cover with 1/4 - 1/2" of Pearlite. Also, try to water from the bottom up.

    I've never eaten domestic goat meat, but I have eaten A LOT of antelope (we call them speed goats lol) and it is by far my favy fav fav wild game! buttery and tender and truly delicious 👍🏽😁

      We hunt antelope also and it’s definitely a favorite meat. We also have goats and have eaten one. Goat is quite a bit chewier than antelope, but both are good.

    I've been a sub for a while (years) So, I don't quite remember, but I am pretty sure it was through another homestead channel. I now don't ever miss an upload! Even my husband said "How does she not have more subscribers?!" He doesn't watch that much (he even has a flip phone and doesn't do socials). But, he said she actually shares things that tell you how and why! The education is very attractive to us. We have had goats for 3 years, but this is our first kidding season. Just had 4 hit the ground last week and waiting on one more doe as well (Dam is full lamancha and Sire is mini lamancha) so somewhat similar situation to yall :) Anyway, hope you have a great week! Bring on the babies!

    Hi Heather and family! You have no idea how much you're channel helps me. Even with small things. Just learning new ideas I haven't thought of yet. For example, bioworma. I never would've thought of that and I'm definitely planning on getting some as soon as possible because it is quite pricey. But I do believe it'll be worth it!! And another example is raising goats for meat. This year we will be choosing a buckling from our herd to use for meat for the first time! You inspired us to use our Nigerians as a multi purpose animal. It's such a smart idea and we thank you for it!! And of course, I'm sure you remember helping me with some of my own goat issues. My family loves you! Thank you so much for all you do!

    I discovered your channel when I was watching as many Kidding videos as I could in preparation for my 1st kidding season last year.
    I love how your channel is more educational, and you share the ups and downs of what you have learned yourself. You also take the time to answer and respond to questions asked by viewers. I appreciate all that you do to share your homesteading journey and help others along theirs.
    I do have a question... Have you noticed a difference in flavor / texture between the Doe and Buck meat? I would like to see more vidoes on butchering and cooking. I know YT has rules about how much you can show, but explaining in detail would help.
    We had 15 babies this year from 7 Does. I would like to be able to sell what we can, but I am thinking we may end up having to butcher a lot of them.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  2 месяца назад +1

      No we have not noticed a difference! That is an excellent question. We have castrated our bucks prior to butchering and I'm sure that helps. Our butcher said to castrate them one month per year of age to get the hormones out. So a 3 year old buck would be banded or burdizzio'd 3 months before his butcher day.

    • @mysticalcat713
      @mysticalcat713 2 месяца назад +1

      @SageandStoneHomestead I was just curious about the flavor of the meat. I have noticed with our chickens that the hens have more fat and the meat tastes a bit better than the roosters.
      I haven't castrated any of the bucks yet. I just purchased the Side Crusher version.
