Thanks Graham! You are brilliant! I just put one together in my garage tonight and set it in my garden under the cover of night. I can't wait until tomorrow morning to watch the starlings and grackles fly off hungry! Thanks again for sharing!

Seems you could cut 1 or 2 rungs off to make a spot big enough for cardinals and such. Lovely video, thank you

I needed this information. I found them on amazon, placed an order and will be building bird feeder just like yours. Thank you

I kind of wanted to see a grackle attempt to get in - to show it couldn't.

Rephrasing: Are cardinals able to fit through the holes in these "cages"?

This is great. I'm at odds with the blackbirds, grackles, and squirrels that have taken over, but can't convince myself to buy one of the expensive "squirrel/grackle proof" feeders.
    Thanks

Same here. I spend my day putting the feeder out and bringing it in when the grackles show up. I wonder if the openings are large enough tallow the cardinals to get in.

@@yellowbird500I know this comment is 2y old, but I'll give the suggestion for others. You could use some wire snips to cut a few rungs to make one side a lil bigger for the cardinals and such.

Great idea! I have a couple of determined squirrels. Do you have issues with squirrels? Your set up looks like squirrels could figure out how to knock down your set up to get at the seed. What kind of tray is this sitting on? I can see it keeping the grackles and black birds away! Thank you!

@Shaula Jauk Cardinals won't likely fit, but if you want to feed Cardinals without having Starlings eat everything in sight, you could try feeding safflower seed (not sunflower) since not many other species eat safflower.
