You drove across the country averaging triple digit speeds three times without going to jail. That’s a win
Who else read this with the voice of Harry from dumb and dumber?!.....come in, admit it! One of you little pumpkin pie hair cutted freaks knows what's up lol
Hell yeah it is. I’m excited to hit triple digits for a couple miles on the turnpike going to work lol 😂
No, that's reckless driving without getting arrested.
@@jordanking6939 ok Karen
Exactly
It was a huge treat spotting for this team. I personally have no desire to sit in a car for 24+ hours, but truly admire the people brave and crazy enough to attempt it!
These Covid era records might go down as unbeatable. The advantage of having almost entirely empty roads for those few months are an advantage that just may not come around again for awhile, no matter how effectively the rest of the plan is able to come together. Great story!
Gonna need a 992 Turbo S with an ECU tune with a 150 gallon fuel tank to achieve COVID numbers. It’s crazy
@@aimxdy8680no where to put fuel in a 911
I respect them for sticking with it and trying it three times with even a different car. Props to them for trying. They are winners in my book for not giving up. Most people wouldn't try a second or third time.
Most dont try it a 1st time
I think switching cars was unnecessary. I’m surprised they had brake fade or problems with the S8. I mean an S8 can comfortably hit 175mph
Finally, I've been waiting for this since Tedward made the first podcast about these runs. AMAZING
Assuming it’s the same thing (since it’s been a year or two since I heard) that Tedward podcast is really amazing…
@@fraserdavidson278 it is! Thanks!
I'm glad more people will finally hear about these guys. I feel like they really were the most capable team but second place will always be underappreciated.
Early Covid traffic was the best. I will never forget it
I'm really glad to see this story come out for public consumption. You guys are a great group and I am glad to see you embracing this community.
At 17 y/o (1977) I drove my finely tuned and worked 1972 Harvest Gold MGB w/ O/D gear from Long Island NY to LA (Westchester by the airport) by myself without any radar detector in 51 hours. Only 2 tickets. On Will Rogers Tpk clocked 128 mph but the cool State Police Officer wrote me up for 80 mph and wanted to look under the hood while talking about his Vett. I had so much fun. Left on a Friday night. Arrived Sunday afternoon. I have always wanted to do a real Cannonball run but never got the chance.
Ed.... you MUST make a movie about all the runs... would be perfect after the fast and furious franchise...
yes
They'd do a realistic one then the sequels would get more and more ridiculous until its a race to the Moon.
To be so close and miss it by so little, I can't imagine how that felt.
It hurt. Alot.
@@BLProd11 First off, congrats on the attempts and being holders of Cannonball's fastest average speed! 👍
On a side note (and you've probably heard this before) , you look like a young version of Jimmy Kimmel (but better looking, 'cus I can't stand the guy 😂)
@@kimosabbe50 Ha! Thanks!
I like how its featuring people othe then Ed and all we see is Ed

This has to be the top 5 stories on the channel. Heartbreaking but good experience for sure.
My heart goes out to this team, the planning, the cost, the three trys... Just to drive across the country at the speed limit is a bucket list item for me. The road condition, the traffic levels, the price, I doubt that anyone will ever beet the times that were made durring Covid 19. I salute any and all who have a dream and try for it, they have a story for the rest of their lives, even if they came second, they know that only one team was better, which makes them better than EVERY ONE ELSE!
I don't remember ever hearing anyone talk about adding IR lights and using NVGs during their night portion to push their average speed up. I'm sure that it's been discussed but that seems like it would be the ultimate counter measure.
Thought I remembered seeing Jackie Chan do it in a Subaru one time?
A guy on a motorcycle used that equipment for the cannonball. This channel posted it
I listened to your guys podcast over and over again for months! again and again and again, ITS SO GOOD! The fighting spirit was so strong
I would like to do the world’s slowest cannonball in my classic mustang, stopping at the best pancake houses across America. Anyone down? LOL
To each their own as far as car choice but can we stop at the big Texan
How are we splitting the cost of the trip?
Already done by Forrest Gump!
@@kingfishercomputing9497 he ran, and he didn’t eat pancakes. I think we can do better
I'm perpetually loving all the cannonball content.
Been fascinated with cannonball since that article I can't find from a early 80s car and driver or road and track of the editors that bought an old dodge police car, put a couple radar detectors in it and did a cannonball.
No matter how prepared you are, your never prepared for what might happen!
For there determination they deserve an award!
By far the best cannon ball story .
Incredible. Wow that m5 comp is amazing. Incredible. And great video. I got goosebumps so many times listening !
Really love seeing these guys from Boston on here
Damn the determination of these guys to keep going. They honestly should’ve stopped too many omens saying they shouldn’t
Cool to see the reality and struggles which many drivers come across while trying to break this record. Hope you guys achieve it one day!
These guys get the Canonball spirit award in my books !
Incredible effort! I can't imagine how that must have felt, I have infinite respect for the effort you put into this!
Easily my favorite cannonball team
I'm from southern germany and got some "Autobahn" experience. Driving since 2006 in Europe and here. The most important are not the engine power or the stealth optic of the car in my opinion. It's about the brakes and the tires!
The missing CBR stories I'd heard about, love it! Tabbut alluded to them, one a white car and one black. Both times so close Doug was getting nervous. But, I'm waiting for an attempt in a Dodge Magnum, possibly swapped motor. Bigger so more fuel cap...
Awesome experience, amazing story, bucket list - tick off :)
Loved this story, watched it a few times
Cool story and two of the all-time great great German Highway missles, the D4 Audi S8 plus w/605 hp and the F90 M5 Competition w/617 hp.
Righteous effort gentlemen. Valiant effort
you guys are legends
I don't know about the cannonball, but I did manage to break snowman and bandits record (before ELD'S) from ATL to Texarkana, and back, in an international lmao :D
Great stuff. Specific (granular) times and dates throughout the narrative would have been nice.
I really enjoyed this episode! A speed freak episode :) //Greetings from Sweden

Spectacular video!
This guys have to do it again, please do! Chris said in Ted podcast that if the other Chris wanted to do it he’ll do it 😭😭 GUYS YOU WERE SO CLOSE!!
Well told, man what a tale
Congrats guys! 4th time the charme!
Failed cannonball stories are even better than world record ones, TBH.
Pretty soon we will need a jet engine or an f1 engine to even have a chance
Great story . I will never Cannonball but I respect all that have.

awesome story love following these. what i have always wondered, why now power wagons / estates. like rs6, older C400 / C450 or AMG. They would have a crazy amount of space for fuel in the back and fast as hell
Can't believe that when they did it again in Nov. yet another mishap hit them and a bunch of others.
I've gone further on a quarter tank.. like from Lake Zurich IL to France! More than once for my favorite detective's French newspaper. Maybe after WW3 ..
It's cool to hear from people from my home state about Cannonball.

An RS6 would be good. You could fill that wagon with a huge extra gas tank.
They’re going to do it again.
Lamborghini dealer in NJ I work for has two unregistered Countach's and every time I see them sitting there I think of this channel
shoulda removed the speed limited the s8 woulda gone 200
You've done it twice though that's crazy!!!!!
Driving thru Texas, where speed limit is 85, I was pulled over for going 86. Patrol guy read me the riot act , that 85 means 85, not 86 and he thinks 85 is far to fast anyways and doesn't agree with it. He was .. Piisssseeeeddddd. But gave me a warning after 20 minutes of bitching.
He was oncoming on the other side when he saw me and drove thru the ditch and came up behind me. I think he was originally pulling over for no front plate and I'm from AZ where we don't do that crap, so when he saw my state behind me, he decided to say he clocked at 86. Motor officer, no mounted radar and he was driving so no radar gun in hand.
Unlucky guys, it sucks when something out of your control takes it away from you!
Great video
VinWiki family I need some suggestions. I want to buy a decent radar/laser detector for my car. I live in Pennsylvania why I’m not absolutely sure what the state police use but I know they can read speed ahead of them and behind them. What’s a decent unit to buy that’ll alert to most equipment law enforcement uses?
I usually go with a $100+ cobra. Most cops run Ka band radar. Some podunk departments use K band occasionally.
You certainly need a good dose of luck to succeed.
I have been reading about the Cannonball since the first one done over 50 years ago in Car & Driver magazine and have read about over the years the many attempts and breaking of the records. In September, when on a cross country trip (21 days from northern NJ to that point), I visited the western terminus with its sign, taking a picture with my car.
Like many, I believe the absolute lowest times done during the pandemic will never be broken as much less traffic, construction suspended, many cops not working due as sick or limit risk of illness and need to enforce pandemic restrictions. Even when they were done during the pandemic, they were breaking pandemic restrictions on interstate and in-state travel.
I just hope someone far less prepared, with less skilled drivers, not a proper vehicle doesn't try it and end up killing themselves or others ruining the so far record of none in the attempts.
Shoulda took that fire road on the last run
This is like that one picture where it shows a miner stop 1 inch before discovering a diamond…
This is why I want a S8+ so bad
I'm waiting for someone to build an in-flight refueling system so they can fill up off their spotters and not have to stop at all for gas.
Somebody is going to die trying to beat the covid record run.
Based
It’ll never happen again for sure.
311 km/h top speed and 178 km/h average speed is insane. The last try with the M5 Competition and the fast driver was really an ultimate attempt. If it wasn't for the incident in LA, which they had no control over, it would have been a run difficult to beat.
my heroes
also: Tedward was working on a documentary about this - where is it?? I need it!
Its coming....theres a lot of moving pieces plus 70 hours of driving footage haha
@@TedwardDrives thank god! I was already worried you ditched it. I've been thinking about it at least once a week since the trailer came out hoping you hadn't. Really looking forward to it!
Has any one tried the opposite to leave on a Sunday morning let's day 2 a.m or whatever time takes you to dead night when you hit the desert and desolate areas then l.a rather then hit it mid day or day time at all. NYC and northeast is very quiet on Sundays in summer especially just a thought seems that has messed some attempts up by coming into l.a in the day and traffic etc from watching these I've noticed
A for effort! 💯
If you used Google maps for traffic and plan some go around in some areas you could do it.
Keep Rolling
I was sitting by that delivery at pho next door
Woah. Gotta give you guys props. Almost all of the electronics Cannonball guys use is commercial off the shelf shit, but I spotted an Adafruit product in a few of the pictures. Kudos for engineering your own shit! I'd love to know more.
Good eye! We made a custom computer for the run that had GPS to track our progress and give instant feedback on progress. It also logged GPS as part of our proof for the run, it managed our fuel cell, used ADSB to monitor for police aircraft and alert us, and on the first run it managed our spotter intervals before we off loaded that to mission control.
@@cristov9000 Awesome! That's quite a package.
How is Alex Roy’s book not an audio book?????!!!!!
I’ve participated in many many races over the last 15 years and you know which I still remember?
Not the wins but these close calls when someone was ist a fraction of a second faster than you… ☝️🧐
170 mph is racecar speeds. They might as well kick out some wings and a prop, lift off and cruise the skies a bit for safety purposes.
I'd like to do the cannonball in my 03 stratus rt coupe
They need to have an average man's cannonball, less than 300 hp daily driver type cars, just go for fun and make new friends and party.
@user-po2ff3vx8q yes sir! I've driven my stratus at high speeds from Ohio to Cali, and cali to Ohio probably a total of 10 times in the last 4 years, no power steering or ac, just lots of noise and fun, just enough power to play with other motorists
Nice, I just drove my S-Class from Utah to Ohio and back last week. Went through CO, KS, MO, IL, IN on the way there on I-70 and took the northern I-80 route home. Got in some really bad ice in Wyoming but kept going. Only 30 mph on the highway sliding all over for an hour or so. I'd like to run it in the summer from NY to LA.
Hurts my heart that nobody calls me to be a spotter. The freaking route runs about a mile from my house. I need better friends I guess.
He can damn sure eat better than when he was younger!
Murphy was an Optimist.
Pulled over and sick friend cost the record with the S8. Then the hostage situation with the M5. Still great times but if you wanted the record and spent all that money I'd be pissed. This is why non-COVID runs are more realistic than the COVID ones. No traffic and people out are a definite advantage, and you can't plan for traffic jams, car trouble, hostage situations, etc. We may never see empty highways again like we did in early-mid 2020.
Middle of covid of and your stopping at lights with no one on the road smh
Personally..... I would've gone fully rally mode of the fire road.....
You think the ticket clinic will help out if you get in a high speed chase with a helicopter?
Hellcat got away from helicopter so m5 or s8+ can do that fs
Can’t outrun the radio
And as always... all was completely safe, practically legal and most importantly, truly heroic...
Almost guys = try again = y’all will prevail
Y’all’s car records are impressive but I’m angling for the moto record. Might have to pop a tab of acid but I’m going to take the two wheel record. I’m having trouble with my cells in the bags though and almost burnt up my bike.
I'm all about chemical recreation, but your idea doesn't sound like a good one.
Crazy how if everything would of gone perfect they would of probably broke the record by alot.
Sad thing is unless this country gets shut down again it will be hard to beat the current record
All the people saying COVID didn't matter... it sure as hell did. Roads were practically empty of traffic and cops. It was a free for all.
Will be difficult to ever break the “pandemic records”, unless there’s another event that shuts down the country. I do wonder if battery technology will allow for an EV run at some point in the future that requires no stops. (*technology would include wireless charging while driving on major highway, potential improvements to solar body panels to allow meaningful charging during the daytime, and different battery chemistry to allow for more stored electricity)
If Elon Musk threw $100M at the project for fastest Cannonball, including hiring the drivers and paying off the cops, would that be cheating?
The 3rd run at 25:57 was done when restrictions were lifted
u ditched a guy on side of road? thats dirty. karma got u for that move.
