    Hi Paul and Carole, I had my luggage torn to pieces, so I asked my lawyer if I could sue the airline. He said, “you don’t have much of a case”.

  • @sonjacooper4312
    @sonjacooper4312 4 месяца назад +4

    The funniest thing I've seen on a case is a slip-type cover printed with an actual photo of the owner's face! No mistaking his bag, and would only have to present his face as an example of what the case looked like. Brilliant.

    Make sure that you have a single booking reference when you have connecting flights with the same airline. We found out the hard way that this is essential. We'd booked a BA return flight from our home airport to London Heathrow, we also booked a BA connecting flight (using avios) from London to Miami (a different booking reference). The check-in staff refused to route our case through to the final destination, this meant that when we arrived in London we needed to leave the arrivals at Heathrow, collect our case and then repeat the check-in/drop off process again. The problem was that our first flight was delayed by more than an hour and BA baggage took more than 45 mins to send the case through on arrival, we didn't have enough time to get the connecting flight and our case so we had to make a choice between them, needless to say the case got left behind. It took 7 days to get our case, we eventually collected it from Orlando airport ourselves and BA blamed us for using separate bookings.

    Just watched the tips about lost luggage. Thankfully we do all of your recommendations other than th Gorilla tape, which will be in our case next time. One of our cases was lost last summer on the way home from an Alaskan cruise - we were back in Heathrow, and the case was in Seattle - thankfully the Air Tags were a great help, and the case was back within about six days. It was fortunate that we were on the way home, therefore did not have the hassle of being with a limited amount of clothes for days. One thing we do, which you did mention at the end which is make a list of case contents, but also lay all the clothes on the bed before placing in the case and take a picture of them.

    So sorry this happened to you. Some great advice and good you had them in place. I sailed to NYC in October on QM2 and arrived in a storm. My lugguage fell into the sea when transporting it from the ship. Cunard did pay out but I did not know that ships are no where as generous as airlines regarding lost lugguage due to different rules.

    I have a carry-on bag that I call my Mothership. In it are my luxury $$$$ travel toiletries, over the counter med stuff, prescriptions, luxury bath items, some underthings and one change of night clothes, and more. I have one bag devoted to this so that I can have a pampering experience when I manage to have a get-a-way. It is refreshed after every trip, and never unpacked. Grab and Go. I would melt down if it went missing. BUT I have a mini-mother-ship that goes into a checked bag, just in case. I don't love to travel, so these things make it easier on me. I mean, I REALLY don't like to travel. :)

    This is really useful, thank you. Already do most of what you suggest and will consider air tags now. Neither of our bags made it from Doha to Colombo recently but fortunately Qatar Airways knew it hadn’t made the connecting flight and they delivered them to our hotel within 24 hours with assistance from our tour guide. It’s always a real worry for me when we go on a cruise as it could take time to catch up to you as you found.

    Excellent tips, which we always adhere to. One or other of our cases has gone missing on 4 occasions but we've had it returned on all but one occasion. I always carry a swimming costume, a day set of clothes and an evening set of clothes+ heels in my rucksack and of course split the luggage, so loss of a suitcase has never spoilt our holiday. We always travel light with 15-16 kgs in our suitcase, less to lose.😂

    Some great tips! With regards to taking photos of luggage I’ve heard others say use a ruler or a person as a size comparison in the photo or alternatively have a note of the case’s measurements. Also as well as a list of contents take a photo of them before you close the suitcase up so you have a rough idea of what’s in there as well.

    If it's possible to get online receipts, eg, Marks & Spencers has this, you will have valid receipts for a lot of your clothes. I always have a packing list and try to use this as a way of working out outfits and not overpacking. Your tip of sharing cases is so spot on. Also, what you pack in your carry-on should be a mini capsule wardrobe that takes you through a few days.

    Travel Insurance -- All the travel RUclipsrs I follow recommend travel insurance. However, none of them discuss filing a claim and how successful such claims were in terms of restoring the loss. Similarly, this group of RUclipsrs is reluctant to say how much they spend on travel insurance.
    In your situation of "lost" luggage, the airline would be the primary insurer and your travel insurance may cover what the airline did not restore.
    Insurance should guard against major losses -- home and auto, not elected travel.

    • @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel
      @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel  4 месяца назад

      We’ve never claimed so can’t comment on the process, losing a suitcase is a very small part of why you should have insurance, a medical emergency could literally bankrupt you if you haven’t got the right cover in place.

    I am someone who recently 'stole' someone's black suitcase on wheels with a distinctive(😂) red ribbon on the handle at the baggage carousel. Then went directly to the ladies room and parked my bag in the stall and stared at it for a minute since I had the time. Then went, oh... expletive! This is not my red ribbon, not my black bag. Yes understand that concern about details. Phone number OK, and email would suffice just as a means to contact you.

    The one thing I never thought to do was take a photo of my luggage. I usually just travel with carryon but there may come a time when I need to check a bag.

    We have always been told NEVER put your address in or on your Suitcases. Perfect give away that you are not at home. Name, telephone numbers and perhaps details of someone else, just incase. Xxxx

    Just leave an Apple tag in your luggage and you will know exactly where it is 😇
