One of the best videos up to date, the interaction with the chat and the fact that the stream didn't affect the quality of the overall shots and commentary was Just perfect. Truly great sinergy between the video and the livestream, It wasn't one of those things ripped straight out of a stream just to monetize more on It. Truly nice work, and the fact that the battle was one of the best you've ever showcased was just, again, perfect. Keep It up man
Soooo here's the thing about Spear VS Sword. Spears beat swords when you are in formation. Theirs really very few ways to break through a spear wall other than heavy armor, ranged units and if your can find someone crazy enough to run in and try to make an opening. Once you close though or get the spearman in a one-on-one. Then the swords come out. A spear is useless in close quarters. It's why almost every spear man wears an ax, dagger, or club on their belt (maybe a sword if they're wealthy). Personally, I have been on both sides of the fight... In battle formations of spears win the day... but when formations break down. Take no alternative to a good short sword and shield.
Thank you for your comment. It's actually the first comment I see in a very long time (if I've ever seen any other than mine) saying a sword would win in a 1v1 against the spear. I don't know what kind of videos people watched, but there's a huge amount of people on RUclips who claim that the spear is always superior, despite having a lot of disadvantages in 1v1 or small group close combat. They were great at what they were supposed to do, but that's it. That's why a lot of different weapon types existed and were used for different purposes in the first place.
Pretty sure England ain't here but there's the Welsh too so ig they used the sallet which is English and im pretty sure only the English Welsh and Scottish use it Nvm the ones used in Italian armour and gothic armour are also called sallet
The pig face bascinet didn't exist until the late 14th century, so it shouldn't even be here. Some of the Welsh cavalry's armor and weapons didn't exist yet either.
I'm so glad to see Wales in this battle! I'd love to see more of them and I heard Scotland got a buff and rework and I would love to see them too! Scotland is my favorite faction!
I usually think it's worth giving some sort of defence on those outer walls, even it is just a quick fake out. If the attackers know the walls are not going to be fought over they can take their time and organise a lot better.
Kilts are surprisingly warm, especially in the winter. Between the kilts and the hose (the long socks), kilted people are surprisingly prepared for cold weather.
I believe the helmets worn by the Uomini d'Arme Appiedati at 24:27 are called Armets. They were extremely popular amongst knights and fully armored men-at-arms from France, England, and Italy and were most common during the 15th and 16th century.
In fact, upon second review, I am certain they are Armets as if you look carefully, you can see a weird disk shaped metal flange on the back of the neck. This was put in place to protect the straps holding the visor down from being destroyed.
Spears would beat swords on an open battlefield, because they had the reach and could keep them back but in a city seige or other close quarters battles, the knights with swords and sheilds would have the advantage since the spears would struggle to use their reach advantage against the shorter swords
@kenshi jin that is true as well but in general if we look take same skilled individuals and just look at the weapons what I say was generally the case although as you said there were exceptions
the brotherhood of st georges goedendags. the last word is the name of the weapon they use. a wooden stick with a pike on top of it. goedendag also translate to 'good day' in english. so yea we flamish have some humour :). nice to see flanders in the game.
This was a great one! And the nicest video! I think defenders could have won by defending the walls a little bit more coherently at the beginning and by not overextending the counter attack on the left flank. Too much focus on the centre and on the left flank and almost no protection of the right one. It was amazing thanks to alla players and you!!!
Yo dude remember me from the last stream you did yeah my name is really just random but the only twilight episode i watched was the one with the ghost submarine
I give you a hint if you schould be intrested , its not flanders it is Vlaanderen in our language. and it is verry simmelar to holland. We understand hollanders verry good.
Bro go to the time of 27:00 exactly. And there’s a guy looking at the camera before turning his head know he broke the fourth wall. And he’s located directly in the middle at the bottom of the screen.
Creative Assembly should just release this mod as MTW3. Remember when Taleworlds released the Vikings mod as a Mount&Blade DLC ?? This could take the same route.
This game is a mod on Total War: Atilla and it is called Medieval Kingdoms Total War 1212 AD these are replays sent in by people so he can watch them and analyze them and butcher the names of factions and units
So many flanks! They’re not all flanks!! You can’t take us from position to position throughout the city and refer to each position as a flank. Battles were traditionally fought in lines and either end of a line was a flank-so there were two flanks. Not more, not less. You might be tempted to call the end position in a city battle a flank, but it really isn’t because the entire city defense, as a whole, is not a line. Each position in that city, however, is its own line and therefore each position has its own two flanks. Maybe there’s a pike unit at a choke point, that unit has its flanks, because that unit is its own line, and indeed an attacker might try to attack them from their sides or, put differently, the attacker might try to flank them. Let’s just calm it down with all the flanks and flanking, and use the term properly.
Maybe the Welsh player should have fallen back sooner to help his team once the left side started falling apart. The Welsh played the best but not much of a team player and the player on the opposite side should have saves ammo for the gunners and maybe not just sat around letting his units getting shot to shit. Overall fun to watch either way.
We all love Apollo. When he gets to 1 Million. It will truly be an achievement for us veterans.

spears beat swords, but heavy armor and large shields can negate the advantage. heavy armor will negate spears as they can't pierce.
