The absolute Highlight of my career was working with Dennis Weaver, 6 nights a week, in a Theater Show in Ouray, Colorado, just 10 miles from Ridgway. He did a 10 minute bit as Chester teaching the audience how to play the guitar. He had done that bit in Gunsmoke, teaching Miss Kitty how to play it. I never grew tired of it. Our first day of rehearsal, he did a line and turned to me and said, "Did I do that alright?" I was stunned! Why would this veteran Actor ask me? That's how real he was. No ego whatsoever. I still miss him. His son, Rusty and I played in the Band "Free Range Cats" for about 3 years. Rusty is a consummate Musician/Songwriter/Producer, and a great guy as well. Some of my favorite memories.
Thank you. Very interesting and sad how Amanda Blake died. She was such a great actress. My love for James Arness will be forever as every female fell for this gentle giant. Thanks to All the Gunmoke actors who gave us so much entertainment for 20 great years!
My 1st actor crush was"Hoss" from Bonanza. I Never, ever trusted, n or was attracted to, the 'pretty boys'. Never cared for Michael Landon who became very religious, but seemed (to me) in a non-humble, arrogant way. Interesting that his daughter plays "Teeter", the pink hair, Very foul mouth girl (Only girl in bunk house, at first), In the series named "Yellowstone".
I’m also a true fan of Gunsmoke and all the actors .. My late husband got me hooked on Gunsmoke and still today at my age of soon to b 83 years I watch it on insp nighty!

I loved Gunsmoke. I still do. I watch it everyday. Re-run after re-run You can never get tired of this program. I was very little when it first came on the scene. I remember going to gramma's house on the weekends and making a pellet on the floor watching Gunsmoke. I loved those days and will never forget them.
When I thought James Arness was just an actor: He played a real bad-ass. When I found out James Arness stormed a beach in Italy: He WAS a real bad-ass.

I am 60 and still watch. When I was a little girl, "Gunsmoke" came on every Saturday night. My mama would bake a homemade pecan pie and brew coffee while my dad would paste wax our floors and buff them out...then it was time to sit down to eat pie and watch Gunsmoke together. Good memories.
That was beautiful. I fancied myself a true Gunsmoke aficionado, past tense. I thank you Mr. Skinner as I stand humbled by your work and the gracious tribute you gathered on these fine people.
I remember watching the 1st Gunsmoke in Sept of '55 when I was 5 years old. I watched it every week and didn't miss an episode until I went into the service in 1968. I always tried to be like James Arness, even to this day. Trivia: I retired as a Commercial helicopter pilot and during one of my classes at Bell Helicopters on the early ' 70's met Blackie Dalton who was a Test Pilot there. At the beginning of Gunsmoke Matt Dillon beats a gunfighter to the draw. That was Blackie Dalton. Turns out being a " Quickdraw " artist was his hobby! Great Test Pilot, great gunfighter. Ain't that a hoot?
@@caroljohnson5879 Thank you Ma'am for the correction, as I appreciate historical accuracy. As it turns out after some research Blackie Dalton the pilot took on the nickname of the outlaw killed. He did Western reenactments as a fast draw artist and I understand he knew Arvo, don't know if he ever drew against him. He died in 1994. Still an interesting guy though, proud to have met him. Thank you again for the clarification.
My mother used to buy Ms Kitty's breakfast for her whenever she came into the town of Galt Calif where she lived until her death at an animal sanctuary. Her last husband had given her the deadly disease.
Thank you so much for this opportunity to see the history of my favorite actors and TV program ❤️ The characters 💙 ❤️ in Gunsmoke were from the start 1955 part of my heartfelt family.. My dad and I watched the program together every week.. To this day Marshal Dillon is my HERO as a man, cowboy and companion.. I am 80 years old. Thanks again, Phyllis Gibson..❤
I recently started watchimg westerns and Gunsmoke is my favorite. Im retired and get up every morning watching Gunsmoke to the point of watching reruns . I just love all of the characters. Iv even seen the movies that were a spinoff of Gunsmoke. May they all rest in peace knowing that they brought so much joy to everyone that watched.
What a show! Started 1yr before my birthday and ran 2yr after high school, my best friend from 6yrs old to just before his passing few years ago told me that I reminded him of Matt Dillon best compliment I've ever got, who said TV rots your brain!!
I was raised on Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Rifleman, thanks to being raised by my Grandparent's western's were a huge part of my life; I watch what they call television now and it makes me sick they cannot see the damage they have done to today's youth with that trash it's just sad. Kid's sometimes need heroes but today's heroes are nobody to look up to.
Fantastic job u did on this. Gunsmoke is one of my favorite shows that I like to watch over & over. Love all the characters & enjoy recognizing actors that are well known today. Thank you for this video, sadly as it is I hate to hear of the passing of all of them. I know there will be people who will enjoy this show for years & years & appreciate it as much as we do today.
Thank you for your work on these excellent actors who have meant so much to our lives on, "Gunsmoke." I enjoyed it immensely since I grew up watching each week and now watching the reruns with my husband. They are the highlights of our evenings. We dearly love Marshall Dillon and the other characters as if they are part of our extended family. Thank you, Mr. Skinner for a great video.
Gunsmoke today is a show that I watch everyday to help me to deal with the Madness of today. This show and Client Eastwood western shows are the best western shows that was written. John Arness is the best western character that EVER LIVED.
Was my dad's favorite T.V. show. Whenever that T.V. show was on while he was trying to rest it always had his undivided attention. The information on the actors lives here is so interesting. Like for example the lives of sons to Mr. James Arnez. Since Mr. James Arnez was soon very rich; Rich enough to sue for custody of those sons of his when they were young and so were their biological mothers, - After watching this video I am still not sure which mother each of his sons were to -- Miss Chapman, Thordis Brandt or Janet Surtees. Is that one of the westerns on T.V. with scenes depicting a surgery done for someone after getting shot while no modern anesthesia was available yet? Probably not since the show was rated for family I guess.
The days when actors were actors and t.v. cost nothing now we are forced to pay for garbage reality shows along with No talent shows I watch oldies instead on my RUclips....Imagine the oldies had been paid rightfully not like these spoiled actors today who can't act for the most of them pathetic!
All your TV providers are just a fellie on a spoked wheel passing what a central distributor is putting out. 15 - 20 commercials in a commercial break!!?? 10-15 minutes of advertising? I can't and don't try to remember what they ate pimping out for me to buy. I just change channels and forget what I was viewing, or trying to view.
My brother and I strapped on our holsters every Saturday night but we always fell to the floor because Matt Dillon was the Sherrif He alsways out drew us.
As I recall ... Gunsmoke was considered the first adult western series on TV. Up until then the TV Westerns were squeaky clean. Miss Kitty and Matt's relationship was unique at the time.
Hard to believe its been 44 years since the last episode of Gunsmoke was made. Time flies. At the time I don't think folks who watched Gunsmoke realized it would be part of television history. Hard to imagine that there would'nt have been a Gunsmoke.
Loved weaver and the show McCloud. He was a loved actor and missed rip 🙏to all the cast of Gunsmoke. What a beautiful tribute to westerns. Thank u so much.
I have been a big fan of Gunsmoke from the very first time I saw it on channel 11 back in the mid 1970's. That was back when channel 11 was an independent station when all the stations went off the air at about 12:30AM. I have watched just about every Western series there ever was on TV and Gunsmoke has always been and probably will always be my top #1 favorite Western for the rest my life. I will always be a big fan of Gunsmoke for the rest of my life. Thank you for all the memories. Keith(Mr Hillbilly)
I do watch Gunsmoke everyday, to me , Gunsmoke and Perry Mason will always be the best on TV. I cannot get enough of them. May they rest in piece and thanks for the memories.
I love this show ! I was 5 years old when it started and 25 when it went off the air . They just don’t make them like that any more ! I still watch the re-runs !
Amazing. I use to watch it growing up, and now I watch an episode every night before going to bed. What nostalgia. Boy those people could act. Life and TV programs (esp westerns) use to be good. That's why we watch the old programming. Stuff on TV now is mostly crap. Thanks for putting this out there and great job doing it. Loved these TV characters.

I have all episodes, seasons 1 to 17. The characters are old friends just waiting for me to check into the Long Branch for a nice cold beer. I watch after work to chill out and relieve stress of the day. Always good company.
Gunsmoke was one of my most favorite western shows on tv and it was such a trip down memory lane and this show really makes me have fond memories when I was a child watching it. These shows were of real wholesome family value and viewing and were not superficial like series now.
This video story of Gunsmoke was fantastic. It really made my day. I was born in 1957 and graduated High School in 1975, the year Gunsmoke had run its course. My dad was in love with all the cowboy shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza and this show is wrapped around my entire childhood. I still love spending a rainy afternoon watching Gunsmoke reruns. You did a great job narrating and telling the story. Thanks!
Exact same here. Born in `57 and graduated in `75 and grew up watching Gunsmoke, Rifleman and the others. I met Ken Curtis once when I was a kid and and showed up in his Fetus costume and was one of the nicest people I ever met. Truly made me a bigger fan than I already was.
I remember growing up watching it on TV in the sixties!! Back then after my chores completed I would sit in front of the TV waiting for it to come on. Of course there were other great shows/ movies back then I loved to watch, but now its not the same.
Aug 6 2019 Im 60 years old now ive been watching Gunsmoke as a kid and still enjoy watching , they grew up with me like family thru the years of watching
I'll be 61 next month and those were the best shows for free. Now a days, you pay an arm and a leg for cable and you get crap. Now a days you're see cowboys at the counter with cell phones. LOL
I am about to turn 60 and I watched Gunsmoke with my parents growing up. When I was a little girl, "Gunsmoke" came on every Saturday night. My mama would bake a homemade pecan pie and brew coffee while my dad would paste wax our floors and buff them out...then it was time to sit down to eat pie and watch Gunsmoke together. Good memories. It comes on here 8 times a day...and I have them set on DVR so I can watch each episode from the beginning. We watch it every night. I am still on the early season with Chester.
There is a reason why a show lasts 20 years. Because it was very good. I tell my children that. I tell them not to be so resistant to watching reruns of shows like this even though they were off the air before they were born. My oldest was born 4 years after Gunsmoke. These old shows were so much better than the "brain washing" shows that are on now. I call them that because they make young audiences think of what they should believe in which of course was the idea behind all programs over the years. But modern shows push young people to believe in things that are just part of the gradual erosion of values American's once had.
Bill Taylor Hi Mr Taylor! I couldn't agree with you more! Just recently began watching Gunsmoke ( I was born in 1966) and I simply adore it! I've actually been seeking out programs like this bc I've found I come away with a feeling of well being and happiness instead of the disgust I feel after watching current tv shows. Just this evening I was grilling my parents for details ("why does Chester limp?" & "was Festus a drunk or a deputy" etc) bc I've only been watching for a few weeks.OMG so refreshing to watch a show where everyone isn't having sex with everyone else!! I realize things are never going to be like when I was a kid😕 (i.e. RESPECT/DISCIPLINE/HONOR/& most important IMHO: FEAR/LOVE of the LORD😇) but if only there were still some programs like this to watch maybe...MAYBE🤔...some of these crazy kids could be saved! Certainly couldn't HURT, riiiiight?!?? Well sorry to go on, your comment really hit a nerve! THANXSOMUCH FOR LISTENING!! 😉🙏🏻😬
Best TV show of all time, best western of all time, best cast of all time. Thanks for the excellent vid. I still watch Gunsmoke episodes and never get tired of them.
The I/2 hour show which had not been shown for years are the best , they include Chester. The older 1 hour segment include Festus, one of my favorites.
Thank you, I found it very interesting. It's nice to know that friendships were made within the cast members. Just added a little more dimension and personality to the series.
Thank you so much for this. I NEVER watched Gunsmoke when it was on TV. Now, at 63, I’m addicted to both the Radio and Television versions of the show! This was fascinating to me! XO
I loved them all! I was born the same year gunsmoke did its last episode. So i grew up watching theses wonderful people acting out there even wonderful characters. They will forever be a part of me an i am honored to have been able to watch this show growing up. Today i still watch the show every morning an evening. Will probably watch it till i die. great stuff, nice and informative. I'm surprised you didn't add Burt Reynolds to the documentary
Love Gunsmoke, watch it every day!, may the wonderful cast rest in peace. They were awesome! 🐎🐎🐎😊🌹💖
I believe that Burt Reynold's also got his "big start" on Gunsmoke after Weaver left and they were looking for a "fourth" character development!
I'm surprised he wasn't included. He played the Blacksmith also the gunsmith. Bad guys called him "half Breed."
I am so impressed by the amount of work put into this presentation and amount of detail. Thank you so much.
Thank you Ami Csi very much. Jerry
My mother loved watching gun smoke her name was Loraine. E G.
All time favorite. I regularly check the cast and crew notes.
You're my kind of girl!
Thank you for being an awesome soldier n honoring our country!!!

Heli Smoke Nope. The gunfighter who lost the gunfight in the opening of Gunsmoke was Arvo Ojala.
Heli Smoke My pleasure my friend! Sounds like you and Blackie are two remarkable men. Im sorry he is no longer with us. Peace be with you.
I was watching this when I was 8 years old and still watch it today
I have enjoyed watching Gunsmoke for over 30 years. Now I'm watching the reruns.

Thank you Phyllis for taking the time to watch. You make my day. Jerry
Good film, with interesting narration. "Minn-a-napolis" and "Made for movie TV" made it even more enjoyable.
Hello Sandra, How are you doing?
One of the best shows on, then and now... I loved the cast.♥️

Just A Classic Always Be Remembered Great Show. '' GUNSMOKE '' !!

I have all 20 seasons of Gunsmoke on DVD and have watched them over and over again and again. Just can't help it.
I watch Gunsmoke all the time. I grew up watching it. When I was little I watched it for the horses....now I watch it and REALLY ENJOY IT

Thank you Lynn. Jerry

😋
Love Peter Graves, i had NO idea that James Arness and Peter Graves were brothers!! Both were incredible and two of my favorite actors.
When you heard Graves speak, he sounded much like his brother - the voice, the tone and mannerism.

Sadly the world mirrors todays "entertainment"..😑
All your TV providers are just a fellie on a spoked wheel passing what a central distributor is putting out. 15 - 20 commercials in a commercial break!!?? 10-15 minutes of advertising? I can't and don't try to remember what they ate pimping out for me to buy. I just change channels and forget what I was viewing, or trying to view.
Wow PURPLE HEART& Bronze STAR..DIDNT KNOW THIS...NO WONDER SUCH A FINE PERSON & MAN
Hello Karen, How are you doing?
My brother and I strapped on our holsters every Saturday night but we always fell to the floor because Matt Dillon was the Sherrif He alsways out drew us.

Jerry your western biopics are the best there are! Thank you sir for your accurate & timeless productions!👍🤠 🐎
Sad to see these days and times long gone, i wish i could bring them back. Thank you for this piece and answering many questions.
As I recall ... Gunsmoke was considered the first adult western series on TV. Up until then the TV Westerns were squeaky clean. Miss Kitty and Matt's relationship was unique at the time.
Good night
I would like to see Gladys Knight & The pimps rainy night in Georgia

Thank you so much for posting this always wondered what happened to all the cast of guns smoke👍👍
Gunsmoke was a once in a lifetime show with a wonderful cast. God Bless all the great stars.
Gunsmoke ... the best Western TV show ever. 20 years of legendary episodes.
Laramie was another good show. Robert Fuller as Jess and John Smith as Slim.
Watching a espisode of Gunsmoke right this very minute. It comes on again at 10pm on INSP channel and 12noon to 4pm on TV LAND.
John Hughes The Rifleman with Chuck Connors was good. Or Wagon Train with Ward Bond.
Have Gun, Will Travel. Unique.
I do watch Gunsmoke everyday, to me , Gunsmoke and Perry Mason will always be the best on TV. I cannot get enough of them. May they rest in piece and thanks for the memories.
Don't forget The Rifleman.
I love this show ! I was 5 years old when it started and 25 when it went off the air . They just don’t make them like that any more ! I still watch the re-runs !
Same here

Phil N Florence agree! ME TV is great
Gunsmoke was one of my most favorite western shows on tv and it was such a trip down memory lane and this show really makes me have fond memories when I was a child watching it. These shows were of real wholesome family value and viewing and were not superficial like series now.
I am watching all the reruns of this show. The acting, actors, and writers are all top-notch! What an excellent series!
I love d so much but what happen to the. Indain man who work ed in the stable s i can't remember his name but he was sooo cute.
Thanks!
Me also.....born the same year graduated in 75😆...AND LOVE GUNSMOKE TILL THIS DAY.....LOVED ME SOME MATT & FESTUS 😁
D
Same here as well!
Amen
Exact same here. Born in `57 and graduated in `75 and grew up watching Gunsmoke, Rifleman and the others. I met Ken Curtis once when I was a kid and and showed up in his Fetus costume and was one of the nicest people I ever met. Truly made me a bigger fan than I already was.
Rest In Peace to the Great cast of Gunsmoke! We miss you!
Thanks for all the Great Westerners of the past. Can't stomach the garbage on tv today!
Most stuff today centers around sex drugs violence, not everything, but very brazen.
Buck Taylor has a facebook page check it out,he is often in Fort Worth Texas.
I remember growing up watching it on TV in the sixties!! Back then after my chores completed I would sit in front of the TV waiting for it to come on. Of course there were other great shows/ movies back then I loved to watch, but now its not the same.
@JOSE D. sorry to hear about your dad.
Iwatch them every day Love them They're on Insp almost every day.
I grew watching gunsmoke , love all the actors
Hello Paula, How are you doing?
Aug 6 2019
Im 60 years old now ive been watching Gunsmoke as a kid and still enjoy watching , they grew up with me like family thru the years of watching
Yup im 62 and grew up watching them still watching them
Me too. I watched the shows with my dad.

Bill Taylor well said
Bill Taylor Hi Mr Taylor! 😉🙏🏻😬
