Thank you. Very interesting and sad how Amanda Blake died. She was such a great actress. My love for James Arness will be forever as every female fell for this gentle giant. Thanks to All the Gunmoke actors who gave us so much entertainment for 20 great years!
My 1st actor crush was"Hoss" from Bonanza. I Never, ever trusted, n or was attracted to, the 'pretty boys'. Never cared for Michael Landon who became very religious, but seemed (to me) in a non-humble, arrogant way. Interesting that his daughter plays "Teeter", the pink hair, Very foul mouth girl (Only girl in bunk house, at first), In the series named "Yellowstone".
I’m also a true fan of Gunsmoke and all the actors .. My late husband got me hooked on Gunsmoke and still today at my age of soon to b 83 years I watch it on insp nighty!
The absolute Highlight of my career was working with Dennis Weaver, 6 nights a week, in a Theater Show in Ouray, Colorado, just 10 miles from Ridgway. He did a 10 minute bit as Chester teaching the audience how to play the guitar. He had done that bit in Gunsmoke, teaching Miss Kitty how to play it. I never grew tired of it. Our first day of rehearsal, he did a line and turned to me and said, "Did I do that alright?" I was stunned! Why would this veteran Actor ask me? That's how real he was. No ego whatsoever. I still miss him. His son, Rusty and I played in the Band "Free Range Cats" for about 3 years. Rusty is a consummate Musician/Songwriter/Producer, and a great guy as well. Some of my favorite memories.
Thank you all , from the time it started to the very end, but even now me & my husband still watches Gunsmoke. It really worth the time to watch every bit of Gunsoke, and will
Yes, thank you Mr. James Arness, Mr. Dennis Weaver and Mr. Ken Curtis for your Service to our Nation🇺🇸 in the trenches as well as your talents on Gunsmoke. I grew up watching this TV Western with my family. It truly is a treasure.
I truly loved this...what an honor to those that played on Gunsmoke. I have watched Gunsmoke all of my life and continue to watch it everyday as it never gets old. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
Me too. As a grade school age kid. I still love those shows!! Also, the Rifleman!! I was shocked to find out that johnnie walker is actually older than me!! Long since passed away. It’s weird watching repeats and that sweet little boy was actually older than I!!
I remember growing up watching it on TV in the sixties!! Back then after my chores completed I would sit in front of the TV waiting for it to come on. Of course there were other great shows/ movies back then I loved to watch, but now its not the same.

Thank you for this wonderful documentary Mr. Skinner. My partner and best friend loved to watch Gunsmoke. He once told me it was the only night of the week his Grandpa stayed up late to watch his favorite show. On April 2, 2020 my friend had supper and sat down in his easy chair in front of his T.V. and watched his favorite show, Gunsmoke! Bless his heart, I do believe he had every episode memorized. We found him the next morning still in his easy chair but gone, died instantly of a heart attack. . I miss him so much and your documentary warmed my heart and brought me closer to him. Thank you again. Keep up your good work!

We only just came across this channel and will be enjoying it from here on out. Can't wait to see what else we come across. Hope this reply finds you and your wife well. Gunsmoke will be on TV later this morning for several episodes as it is every weekday. It's always on in the background and sometimes I'll catch her standing in front of the TV just engrossed in it and not even realize she's not sitting down. Haha!
I do watch Gunsmoke everyday, to me , Gunsmoke and Perry Mason will always be the best on TV. I cannot get enough of them. May they rest in piece and thanks for the memories.
Best TV show of all time, best western of all time, best cast of all time. Thanks for the excellent vid. I still watch Gunsmoke episodes and never get tired of them.
The I/2 hour show which had not been shown for years are the best , they include Chester. The older 1 hour segment include Festus, one of my favorites.
What a genuine in-depth biography of the cast of Gunsmoke. Excellent work. Gunsmoke is genuine Americana ingrained into the memories and lives of those who grew up in the Baby Boomer generation. The directors had an excellent discernment of picking the cast of Gunsmoke. Each of the actors/actresses "owned their characters" standing on their own in the series. They weren't "extras" or "side-kick" characters. Great human beings as well.
Thank you so much for this. I NEVER watched Gunsmoke when it was on TV. Now, at 63, I’m addicted to both the Radio and Television versions of the show! This was fascinating to me! XO

I am about to turn 60 and I watched Gunsmoke with my parents growing up. When I was a little girl, "Gunsmoke" came on every Saturday night. My mama would bake a homemade pecan pie and brew coffee while my dad would paste wax our floors and buff them out...then it was time to sit down to eat pie and watch Gunsmoke together. Good memories. It comes on here 8 times a day...and I have them set on DVR so I can watch each episode from the beginning. We watch it every night. I am still on the early season with Chester.
I don't think we ever missed an episode. Loved this show!! I suddenly feel old for some reason.... we had the best programming in the 60's and 70's! It was another world compared to today, families actually sat down and ate at the same table, and then at the tv for their favorite show's, with actual mom's and dad's there too!!
I continue to start my mornings watching "Wagon Train" & then "Gunsmoke" for several hours. I'm now fully house-bound due to several failed spinal fusions. Both shows help distract me from the Pain & Boredom of Not being able to still live my life to the fullest.
Thank you, I found it very interesting. It's nice to know that friendships were made within the cast members. Just added a little more dimension and personality to the series.
Thank you for this wonderful posting. The music themes, opening and closing, and the custom written and performed music for each episode, are indicative of the care and attention of Mr. James Arness. There is no other comparable western. Cast. Crew. Sets. Music (of course). Costumes. Livestock. What's not to love. I'd be honored to sign on as chicken wrangler just to associate with this fantastic team! Unending love. RIP.
Loved this background story of GUN SMOKE. Watched it every Saturday night with my Mom & Dad. Right after it came, PALLIDIN, then RIFLEMAN. Fond memories. We always had a pop and a chocolate bar to watch our 3 shows. My Mom & Dad would have loved to hear all about this cast of Gun Smoke.
I pray they or sitting down in a heavenly saloon laughing and talking. . You know festus is talking the most and Doc is starring at him with that look. Kitty will be by Matt . Rest In Peace.
Mr. Jerry Skinner, you did a wonderful job here telling the story of the people that starred in the cast of Gun Smoke! You always do a outstanding job documenting your stories. Thank you for your work!
There is a reason why a show lasts 20 years. Because it was very good. I tell my children that. I tell them not to be so resistant to watching reruns of shows like this even though they were off the air before they were born. My oldest was born 4 years after Gunsmoke. These old shows were so much better than the "brain washing" shows that are on now. I call them that because they make young audiences think of what they should believe in which of course was the idea behind all programs over the years. But modern shows push young people to believe in things that are just part of the gradual erosion of values American's once had.
Bill Taylor Hi Mr Taylor! I couldn't agree with you more! Just recently began watching Gunsmoke ( I was born in 1966) and I simply adore it! I've actually been seeking out programs like this bc I've found I come away with a feeling of well being and happiness instead of the disgust I feel after watching current tv shows. Just this evening I was grilling my parents for details ("why does Chester limp?" & "was Festus a drunk or a deputy" etc) bc I've only been watching for a few weeks.OMG so refreshing to watch a show where everyone isn't having sex with everyone else!! I realize things are never going to be like when I was a kid😕 (i.e. RESPECT/DISCIPLINE/HONOR/& most important IMHO: FEAR/LOVE of the LORD😇) but if only there were still some programs like this to watch maybe...MAYBE🤔...some of these crazy kids could be saved! Certainly couldn't HURT, riiiiight?!?? Well sorry to go on, your comment really hit a nerve! THANXSOMUCH FOR LISTENING!! 😉🙏🏻😬
I have been a big fan of Gunsmoke from the very first time I saw it on channel 11 back in the mid 1970's. That was back when channel 11 was an independent station when all the stations went off the air at about 12:30AM. I have watched just about every Western series there ever was on TV and Gunsmoke has always been and probably will always be my top #1 favorite Western for the rest my life. I will always be a big fan of Gunsmoke for the rest of my life. Thank you for all the memories. Keith(Mr Hillbilly)
This is a wonderful video about my favorite ever TV show. When the early episodes aired, there was no gunfight in the street with Matt and the bad guy. The opening scene in the early episodes was a closeup of a right hand holding a Colt .45 type revolver, firing several times, producing lots of gun smoke. That led into Matt at Boot Hill and his words of wisdom. The gunfight opening scenes came later. I didn't see anyone eating at the Dodge House. The favorite place for the characters to eat was Delmonico's restaurant, which drew constant complaints from the characters about Delmonico's.
Ever since I was a little kid in Iraq .. One of my favorite shows was gun smoke .. Now that I am in my beloved America .. I enjoy watching gun smoke all the time.. Thank you Jerry.. Good stuff...
Loved Gunsmoke so dang much, I named my registered Doberman Ms. Kitty Mae. My son's name is Matthew. Kitty Mae was his first dog. When Ms. Kitty had pups, the name Doc Adams was already registered. So I chose the name "Doc Adams, Festus, Newly" for my new pup!
John Wayne was the ultimate cowboy, as was James Arness, but in my opinion Ken Curtis ranks right there with them as Festus Haggin. His character was honest, true to the cause, a man of his word, and always had your back no matter what the odds. Thank you Mr Skinner for posting this video.
Amanda Blake was a beautiful woman. Dennis Weaver was an awesome actor too. It's amazing that we forget about some of the most unforgettable people of our times. God bless them, I had an awesome childhood.
Another fine production, Mr. Skinner. Thank you. And may I add, for those who may not know, Ken Curtis was one of the greatest actors America ever produced, in my opinion. See the character he played in the Searchers and compare it to the character of Festus Hagan--the difference is profound. His range as an actor was extraordinary. Curtis's invention of the character of Festus Hagan is more than an actor's art and craft. The invention is closer to a metaphysical channeling of one soul to another, or one soul to the amalgam of all those men's souls who settled the west. To me, Festus Hagan is the embodiment of a type, the sum total, in one man, of all the tough, hard-bitten men who tamed and settled the west. Festus Hagan, as portrayed by Ken Curtis, is almost scary in its true-to-life, three dimensionality. I'd give a lot of money, if I had it, to know the story of how Mr. Curtis conceived and developed the persona of Festus Hagan. If I had to guess, Mr. Curtis probably knew a guy in real life who served as the model for the character of Festus. And if so, that fellow was one bad ass hombre.
I was truly touched by this documentary, I grew up watching Gun smoke, my favorite TV show of my life, my next favorite "Have Gun Will Travel" was on right after and my dad let me stay up 1/2 hr past my bed time so I could see it also. Those were the care free days for me and I`m sure for millions of others around my age (72). These shows were part of what made life worthwhile, ( along with horseradish and hot sauce of course) !
Really enjoyed it. Met Doc Adams at one of his houses in the San Fernando Valley while delivering mail for the US Post office for one summer as I was just out of the military and making some money to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo CA. He was as grouchy as he was on Gun Smoke.
I loved Gunsmoke. I still do. I watch it everyday. Re-run after re-run You can never get tired of this program. I was very little when it first came on the scene. I remember going to gramma's house on the weekends and making a pellet on the floor watching Gunsmoke. I loved those days and will never forget them.
I watched 'Gunlaw' and later 'Gunsmoke' through my youth in the UK. It was always my favourite programme and was, in my opinion, streets ahead of the other westerns. Still miss it whenever we talk about years that have gone by. Roy Winfield. England.
Thank you for a full history of all these wonderful actors. Gunsmoke's great appeal was the fact that it did not over glamourise gun fights and the characters seemed quite amazingly natural.
Amen , wonderful amazing story of each Castmember. So much history. I still watch all Gunsmoke Series and 7 movies & John Wayne movies.Love the Westerns and I'm almost 80. Thank you for your hard work on this.
Dear Sir, your video is one of the nicest and loveliest spoken videos ever. How much time you must have spent in all of this... It´s so sweet to know something more about my childhood-heroes.... Not forgetting to mention Star Trek, Shilo Ranch, The Waltons, Detective Rockfort, In the Streets of San Francisco and more... This was all entertainment!!!
Watching Gunsmoke with my family is also one of my childhood memories. Those good memories returned when I was able to get the Gunsmoke DVD's as they began releasing them.
Thanks a million for this tribute. Good people all. A lot of heart. Glad for the mention of Glenn Strange, whom I remembered from early Long Ranger episodes. And it's worth looking up Ken Curtis singing "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" etc. "Gunsmoke" and its cast taught Americans great lessons, ones almost lost now.
Thank you so much for this documentary... I loved it that you would take the time to put this information together and make it possible for folks to see some of the inside stories of the lives of these actors and actresses and help make them feel even closer to my heart than when watching them for so many years. We've looked for decent shows to watch minus the blood, guts and gore that is ever-present on TV. We've always come back to Gunsmoke hoping to see its availability. Your documentary helped make the characters feel even more like family somehow.... longtime friends in a way, and it was sad to hear when they passed. Beautifully done!!! It was a treat today to watch this after the episode...
Jerry, thanks for this documentary. Gunsmoke - Saturday night 10PM CBS. There was none to compare. We seldom ever missed an episode, and loved them all. Again, thanks for sharing.
Amazing documentary. My entire family watched Gun Smoke the entire duration of the show. Great family show even today. God Bless the creator and all people involved making the Gunsmoke legion. God Bless
I'm 46 years old and suffered a bad injury in a car accident. I'm still not fully recovered but I watch Gunsmoke every single day... Still haven't seen all the episodes but I've seen all the Rifleman episodes. They sure don't make em like they used to
We watch the reruns of Gunsmoke and rarely miss one if we are home. I just wanted to say that the Christmas special is the very best Christmas show ever. Arness was the best role model and Festus should also be known as St. Festus - he was that pure and gentle. What acting! What wonderful characters!
😢😢😢😢😢Gunsmoke has always been my favorite western. I always watched it with my Dad. They always found the right people to play in Gunsmoke. You could not ask for better people to play these parts
Thank for doing this. Really enjoyed watching and listening to this presentation. You did an excellent job. I loved Gunsmoke when I was young and still enjoy watching even now They were all great actors and actresses.
Thank you Mr. Skinner for Blessed Memories that shall last 'forever'. Your' distinctive style, voice and directorial screen-play are unique and very 'special' Father Drucker
Gunsmoke is my favorite tv western of all time! The cast & the chemistry between them was awesome!...Especially between Doc & Festus..Festus & Quint..Chester & Doc.Lol..Being American Indian & Black,i felt like the writers of this show were subtly supportive of racial equality at a time when it wasn't popular. The main characters saw everyone as men & women.Doc Adams doctored on anyone, regardless of race.Matt was always quick to notice that every indian wasn't the culprit simply because a white man said so.There was an episode involving a crooked fight promoter & 2 fighters fought to a draw. The white fighter gave the black fighter half of the money that was given to him to take a dive!!...Absolutely unheard of during that setting in the 1800s!!..The cast, writers, ahhh deserve soooo much more recognition. #gunsmokefanforever
My mother used to buy Ms Kitty's breakfast for her whenever she came into the town of Galt Calif where she lived until her death at an animal sanctuary. Her last husband had given her the deadly disease.
I cannot watch Gunsmoke too much! I just ordered season 7, part 1 and 2. Will order every season until the end in 1975. What a great show along with Bonanza and Have Gun Will Travel. I watched them all when they first aired on TV. I cannot say enough good things about all these great stars. They all did so many other things in their private lives. Jerry Skinner is the most fabulous narrater I have ever heard!!

I grew up watching "Gunsmoke" when I was a kid back in the 1960's. It was my favorite show on TV. Thanks so much for sharing this great video.
Hello!! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!...Stay safe
I continue to start my mornings watching "Wagon Train" & then "Gunsmoke" for several hours. I'm now fully house-bound due to several failed spinal fusions. Both shows help distract me from the Pain & Boredom of Not being able to still live my life to the fullest.
I know. And it isn't just nostalgia. So much really was leagues better than now. I wish my children could have had what I did.
RIP.
Really enjoyed this! Gunsmoke was my favorite western? I loved all the characters, especially James Arness!!
We still see it once a week, never get tired of it. WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING IT FOR YEARS.
Hello Helen, How are you doing?
P
Hi Pat, How are you doing today?
There is a reason why a show lasts 20 years. Because it was very good. I tell my children that. I tell them not to be so resistant to watching reruns of shows like this even though they were off the air before they were born. My oldest was born 4 years after Gunsmoke. These old shows were so much better than the "brain washing" shows that are on now. I call them that because they make young audiences think of what they should believe in which of course was the idea behind all programs over the years. But modern shows push young people to believe in things that are just part of the gradual erosion of values American's once had.

Bill Taylor well said
Bill Taylor Hi Mr Taylor! 😉🙏🏻😬

Ilove Gunsmoke I never get tired of watching . Love Miss Kitty , Doc & Festus
What a great documentary, I grew up watching Gunsmoke and wish we could go back to those great times.
Hi Ian how are you doing
Gunsmoke ... the best Western TV show ever. 20 years of legendary episodes.
Laramie was another good show. Robert Fuller as Jess and John Smith as Slim.
Watching a espisode of Gunsmoke right this very minute. It comes on again at 10pm on INSP channel and 12noon to 4pm on TV LAND.
John Hughes The Rifleman with Chuck Connors was good. Or Wagon Train with Ward Bond.
Have Gun, Will Travel. Unique.
Here I am watching it still today. Gunsmoke lives on.
I still watch this show. There is an excellent reason this show lasted for so long. Incredible cast.............
I love gun smoke love old doc and festis fussing. r.I.p every one love you all.
wow festis a singer never thought.
Tammey Price ... ikr?! .. he sang for John Wayne & Maureen OHara in one of John Waynes western movies (title slips my mind at the moment).

The best cast ever.
Ever since I was a little kid in Iraq .. One of my favorite shows was gun smoke .. Now that I am in my beloved America .. I enjoy watching gun smoke all the time.. Thank you Jerry.. Good stuff...
wash it
My daddy loved this show. He had to watch it weekly. It reminds me of my daddy laying there saying, " my shows on" lol
May all the great actors in "Gunsmoke" rest in peace. What a show!
What a beautiful gal,mmmmm !!! Out of sight !!!!
I love western movies like the old movies . I watch the reruns of Gun Smokes. Great movies.
Yes it was❤️😀
🙏 Amen
I'll never forget growing up and having to be home to watch this, no matter where we were in the state where we lived!!
Thank you Shawneya. Jerry
I could listen to your voice all day !!
Still watch Gunsmoke and Have Gun will Travel Thank You John Skinner, so well done.
My favorite all time western show. Interesting facts about the stars and sad stories also. May they rest in peace.
Loved Gunsmoke so dang much, I named my registered Doberman Ms. Kitty Mae.
My son's name is Matthew. Kitty Mae was his first dog.
When Ms. Kitty had pups, the name Doc Adams was already registered. So I chose the name
"Doc Adams, Festus, Newly" for my new pup!

Chester, played by Dennis Weaver, was replaced by Festus. My Daddy loved Gunsmoke. That term, get out of Dodge is still used today.
.
Real people
Ken Curtis was quite a character, and a good singer, follow him on UTube , he sings tumbling tumble weed ! A real classic !
@@patrickcoyle796 Thanks for the heads up, Mr. Coyle. I'll definitely look into that.
I concur sir. 100%
Thank you Daniel, we are the same age and we have a lot in common. Thank you. Jerry
Oh yes !! Richard BOONE.. PALIDON (name maybe misspelled)...but loved the man in black 😁
Love the show....& I haven't reached 65 YET....😆
I remember Steve McQueen in "Wanted - Dead or Alive", Robert Culp in "Trackdown", and Nick Adams in "The Rebel." Great shows!
Right on
Really enjoyed it.
Donna, i walked 1/4 mile to watch Gunsmoke when i was young and now i watch it every night. Jerry
I watched 'Gunlaw' and later 'Gunsmoke' through my youth in the UK. It was always my favourite programme and was, in my opinion, streets ahead of the other westerns. Still miss it whenever we talk about years that have gone by. Roy Winfield. England.
Thank you Roy. Jerry
Love Gunsmoke! Thanks for this awesome history lesson.
I still love u guys my brother missed u all 2
There has never been no better cast than the one on gun smoke with James arnest and Bob denver

Excellent. Brought back good memories of my childhood. My grandmother and I use to watch Gunsmoke together.
Loved this show. The background history is amazing.
I watched Gunsmoke with my mamaw many years ago. My husband and I watch it in 2021. Still love it!
Hello!!! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!...Stay safe
Watching Gunsmoke with my family is also one of my childhood memories. Those good memories returned when I was able to get the Gunsmoke DVD's as they began releasing them.
Hello beautiful lady 💋
Thanks a million for this tribute. Good people all. A lot of heart. Glad for the mention of Glenn Strange, whom I remembered from early Long Ranger episodes. And it's worth looking up Ken Curtis singing "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" etc.
"Gunsmoke" and its cast taught Americans great lessons, ones almost lost now.
Thank you James. Jerry
James Robiscoe Glenn Strange also played Frankenstein's monster.
Jerry Skinner the possession of Mark King the possession of Mark King
James Robiscoe I thought that the early episodes were called " Marshall Dillion" ? Or was that just for syndication?
.
What a Beautiful Presentation of the cast of Gunsmoke. Those were the Days....I miss them.

I grew up watching Gunsmoke. Thank you for this enjoyable, informative walk down memory lane.

It's good to know other people love Gunsmoke and still watch it like I do still today in 2019. I wish they would bring back westerns.
Hi how are you doing
I'm 46 years old and suffered a bad injury in a car accident. I'm still not fully recovered but I watch Gunsmoke every single day... Still haven't seen all the episodes but I've seen all the Rifleman episodes. They sure don't make em like they used to
Jerry, you just get better and better. Thank you for all the work.
We watch the reruns of Gunsmoke and rarely miss one if we are home. I just wanted to say that the Christmas special is the very best Christmas show ever. Arness was the best role model and Festus should also be known as St. Festus - he was that pure and gentle. What acting! What wonderful characters!
Yes ,yes my dear I'm with you 100 percent !! Jimmy G. SanDiego .👌👌👌

Thank you for such excellent info about the timeless epic "Gunsmoke" - still available on cable TV!
This is the best narration, and biography of actors in a series caught in a nutshell I've had the pleasure to watch

Hello!! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!...Stay safe
Loved it!!!
Love watching reruns
We watch Gunsmoke everyday! We don't miss a show!

Michael G Moore I feel the same way about Gunsmoke. I watch it everyday on IINSP channel. I wish they would show the first season.
Ernie McGowin , You can get season one, volume 1 and 2 from your library for free. They will order it for you!
They need to go back to making shows like Gunsmoke and stuff all this violence and stuff
