Jim Redgate is a highly sought-after Australian luthier, known for his guitars built for artists such as Ana Vidovic, Pepe Roméro and Odair Assad. This lattice-braced model is an exact copy of the guitar that Ana Vidovic plays. Jim Redgate’s instruments have their own sound and touch. The breath-taking volume combined with rich harmonics and impressive clarity of sound are quite unique. The playability is fantastic, and the guitars are relatively light in weight compared to the Australian standard.
We’ve of course heard Ana Vidovic in concert many times playing on a Redgate guitar, but this guitar convinced us even more of the quality of Jim’s work. The honesty and spontaneity of each note, the magnificent volume, the ease of playing, and the unique sound character of this guitar make it an instrument not only rare in Europe, but above all extremely enchanting.

My spanish father, who was a flamenco guitarist used to play this, for almost all of my life. He died two years ago, at the age of 86. I avoided listening to it, for a very long time. Because I knew my heart would be filled with so much joy and so much sadness at the same time. Those feeling are hard to cope with. Anyway, I'm glad I did today.
❤❤❤❤ Sorry for the passing of your father I know how it feels so much hurt.
😢all of us will pass away one day, the sound behind us we left is the most important. Your father did it. God bless him rest in peace. I wish rahmet from Allah🤲for all of us.
Got to keep going, good for you to move on, glad to hear that.
ı am so sorry for your loss😢. It's nice to know that our loved ones live in memories of us.
Muy bello recuerdo te dejó. ❤❤❤
This sounds like it is two guitars being played at the same time.
Incredible.
piano accomplishment
@@MrSham61 no piano, just one guitar
That was my impression too, when I first heard it.😮
@@AlexPeterson-j2o It is a technique called trémolo. Difficult and amazing🤩🥰
The piece is inspired by the Alhambra, an originally Arab city in present-day Spain. As is customary in Arab buildings, there is running water and the tremolo evokes the course of the water in one of the fountains of the Alhambra. There’s no piano involved whatsoever.
She plays the last chord perfectly and gently in accordance with the overall feel of the piece. So many other guitarists incongruously slam the last chord like a bottle of beer at a drinking contest.
There is no such law that all chords should match the overall feel. But it's true that many guitarists do senseless things like banging out the last chord even though, being usually the home key, it is what you expect the piece to end on. So it's not something unexpected and significant to emphasize.
I confess I've enjoyed the loud finish I've heard in other renditions. It seems to invoke a naive, raw, unsophisticated but joyous spirit as one might imagine could be associated with the beautiful scenery of Andalusia (no I'm not fancy but I was very lucky to visit the Alhambra once). This is the first one I've heard with the more expected ending, and I like it very much.
My wife was testing classical guitars and when she tried a Taylor, she played this song, gone now but a tearful good memory.
This is absolutely beyond my comprehension, how is it possible that someone composes this and some is capable of playing that. Absolutely beautiful.
The song is actually really simplistic lol. In the bass just the typical arpeggiated chords and the trill / high melody is just a nice little slow melody, very few notes just with that tremolo effect. I do agree, it is quite delightful music
@@poisonfish2176 i am waiting for your performance from this piece
@@rodrigobarboza1592 I doubt I will learn it, am not particularly inspired to learn this I’m focussing on Capricho Arabe at the moment
They actually might be from another world/universe. (Talking about Tarrega, the composer). Just like Tesla came from Venus (According to the FBI).
@@poisonfish2176 Can you play any tremolo piece for us? Or is it not yet a technique mastered by you?
This is the most heartfelt, emotional live performance of this beautiful piece I've heard yet. Ana Vidovic's interpretation and playing bring tears to my eyes.
Very lyric, It's the essence "most heartfelt, emotional live performance".
1:30 in tears.
You're right, I've seen a lot of stars play this song but she puts more emotion and feeling into it than anyone else I've seen.
This reminds me of an old man that played the guitar like this, we use to sit around him and close our eyes and listen to him play, he passed away a few year ago.
God Bless him.
I thought that you don't die if you play the guitar :-(

I have listened to this piece a thousand times and yet with her interpretation it feels like I hear it right for the first time. So delicate and touching, full of nuances, like the infinite light variations of a sunset ..
My hearts stops when she is playing. I believe she can define perfection by herself.
I have been a musician 40yrs, as of 11/16, a recording engineer for 30yrs of that and I feel compelled to shout into the universe "I have just heard the most beautiful sound imaginable." I will be wearing this smile all night. Thank You for sharing with us.
I've been a musician almost all of my 59 years, and while I don't know much about the engineering side, I did small-stage sound (everything from monologue - I mean conference speakers - to 15 voices with backing tracks, all synched to dramatic dance) for 15 years.
Like you, I think this might be THE most beautiful recording I've heard. :-)
Cheers, mate.
Same here... a musician for nearly all of my 58 years. This is my 'go to' piece to relieve anxiety and take me to another place when I need it. Always works.
This piece is so beautiful, it still sounds moving on a scratchy vinyl. My one regret is not practicing this piece hard enough to play it.
The Spanish and their guitars make some of the most beautiful music in the world.

I listened to a CD with this piece on it every single night as I was falling asleep when I was little...between ages 3 and 7 or so. Then I forgot about it. I am very grateful to have it back in my life. Such beautiful music.
To my mind, Recuerdos de la Alhambra is the greatest composition for a classical guitar. Ana, I adore your performance of this masterpiece.
I like this song played by Ana the most, because it's paced just right, more emotive and less mechanical, most people race through it, she manipulates, slows down and speeds up the tremelo where required.
She even keeps the base stable and waves the arpeggio, then does the opposite. Just amazing.
Her interpretation is like a lullaby, the love expressed is so deep.
I just played in a concert with her tonight. She is amazing! Rodrigo Guitar Concerto and she played this as an encore.
Francisco Tárrega is a genious. Thanks for the amazing performance, this is really beautiful.
This is Spanish romantic music, even though it sounds Old Texan. I have no words for Ana Vidovic. Her guitar licks blow me away like dust. This particular piece almost gave me tears of joy.
When I play guitar (poorly) I make faces takes pauses and loose my shit. Can’t imagine the practice it takes to sound so beautiful. I’ve played since I was 12 an hour every other day. God bless this lady for keeping songs like this alive
Same lmao. When I play a wrong note I just instantly lose focus and pause, especially when performing..
There is nothing like visiting the real La Alhambra while listening to this... so many images come to mind, absolutely wonderful!
My skills are so limited but my love is boundless. The takes me to another world and brings me back...thank you , Ana, and everyone who treads this path.
My heart swells and sweeps my here and now into another dimension, thank you Tarrego and Ana..
my dad always used to play this song in the evening when we went to bed as little kids, hearing it again is super nostalgic.
Awww
When I'm already crying less than a minute in, I know I've found a PROPER performance of this wonderous classic!
Absolutely
Agreed.
Dry your eyes mate
My wife is a really incredible guitarist and can memorize pieces on the
instrument very quickly... So once, when we were teens, I had had a
particularly bad day and couldn't sleep that night. So, knowing how much
I love classical music, she learned this piece and sat next to my bed
playing it all night until I fell asleep. I can't listen to it without
getting a little teary-eyed now.
she seems like an amazing person
@@takix4576 yes im very lucky
I have heard this magnificent piece played many times, and Ms. Vidovic is a grand master of this performance.
I have no musical talent whatsoever and some would even consider me musically illiterate but, when I listen to this tears began to well up. You don’t learn to play like this…this is gifted from god.
Visited the Alhambra long, long ago during my first trip to Europe. This piece is so evocative of my tour there--exquisite music, flawless interpretation.
I'm going to have to say that this performance captures the true essence of the piece. The tempo is perfect...and the Rubato is beautifully subtle - to maximize emotional impact. This is the best version- of possibly the best piece ever written for the guitar.
Agreed.
I agree also. Its the best version so far i've seen on RUclips.
I am inclined to agree with you.
So many people play this piece way too fast. I agree with you for sure.
I Think i watched them all, and I have the same impression. Really talented this one.
No words can describe this performance. Just perfect!
Her expressiveness is the best of all the interpretations.
Cuando escuché esta pieza musical, hace ya 50 años, me dejó marcado. ¡¡¡M a g n í f i c a!!!
Listening to Ana play this piece, while the rain pounds against my living room window… It’s 2022, and I don’t know what tomorrow may bring, but all I know that for the length of this video, time stopped. Truly marvelous.
This is one of the pretiest songs of the world , Thank very much Ana, for your magic touch !

Me encanta este "tempo", melancólico y pausado, entre un paisaje de filigranas, rumores del agua y cielos azules ....
I love to see Ana Vidovic playing the classical guitar! She is the best guitar player that I have ever seen!😍😍
I just love the chord changes modulating from the minor to the major keys, it's what makes this music so beautiful, not to mention the wonderful guitarist, Muchas Gracia's ❤️💙❤️💙
This is my favorite version of this beautiful music. I love how Ana caresses the guitar and wraps herself around the composition. Absolutely breathtaking.
The real magic imo is the music lines Ana chooses to bring out. That's what makes her so unique and amazing is the accents she chooses imo. Very emotional felt interpretations.

In my 8 years of playing the guitar, this musical peace is one of the most heartwarming, emotional, and overall the most astonishing...
To all the critics who hear out of tune strings or imperfect rubato's or whatever other perceived defect you fancy you see/hear with this Maestra's playing of anything try this on for size. This is an artist. Do you understand what an artist is? An artist interprets, defines, sends her art through her being. If you are a purist and require exact duplication of score material, I suggest you design some sort of AI machine to play for you. Ana is superb She is the pinnacle of her instrument mastery.
What a pleasure to hear and watch an elite artist play this beautiful piece.
Beautiful. Hauntingly beautiful. Awestruck by the brilliance of the piece , and Ms Vidovic who plays with equal beauty and grace.
I'm from Spain, and I had already listened to this song before Memories of the Alhambra, but now I can't listen to this without getting nervous and expecting to something bad to happen.
You can find Recuerdos de la Alhambra on guitar multiple times here on you tube. And they are good, but this is the absolute best performance.
I watched and listened in awe as I felt moved to tears. I don't have words. I'm stunned silent.
Ana Vidovic is the most complete guitarist using tremolo(touch, speed, emotion etc.). It's more perfect than any player I know
I am fascinated by the use of a two-finger tremolo! It changes the feel of the tremolo in a subtle fashion. Very cool. Her left hand work is so clean too. It's an interesting take on this marvelous song.
Personally I feel like only a 3 finger tremolo would do this song justice
+10cable01 yeah, same from my perspective. She was brilliant bar a few minor hick ups but that 2 finger just weirded me out
depends on how you practice it, 10cable01. I personally played it flamenco tremolo (i-a-m-i), classical 3 fingers tremolo (a m i), 2 fingers (m i m/ a m a/ a i a)
Yeah, I think it is more energetic
Two-finger tremolo works in a pinch, but it's a bit of a cheat. We have here a guitarist who gets by primarily on her sex, youth, and prettiness.
Beautiful sensitive style playiing this famous piece that a lot of classical guitarists have played over the years..
Ana's creativity on this piece brings out the soul of the piece. She has a great tremelo style.
The amplified mic system brings out the rich tone.
I have heard a lot of classical guitar players play this song. Her rendition is by far the best. Played not too fast and with feeling . BRAVO

Hermosa interpretación de Ana Vidovic, es una de mis guitarras favoritas. Ana you are Great and beautiful.❤️👏👏👏👏
I'm always touched by this, so beautiful and so calming 💕
I heard her play this live about 10 - 12 years ago. Recordings don't do her justice, because her use of dynamics -- loud & soft contrasts -- is much more striking when one hears it live. Also, I like her fingering/choice of strings in the opening phrases. It's not the usual one, & I prefer hers because it is more smooth & flowing. And the 2-finger tremolo -- it seems more natural than the 3-finger. I think it might work better for many people if they practiced it from the start. (It might have for me, but it is far too late...).
I saw Ms. Vidovic palying in Boston last year and I noticed the same thing. Her recordings do not do justice to the awesome control of dynamics she displays. I was mesmerized by every piece she played. She keeps you constantly guessing.
That's true. Her dynamics and fingering makes the listener feel the song in a certain depth which only some musicians can.
What a fantastic story thank you for share
The three finger tremolo is hard to make the tremolo even. I kept hearing the tremolo coming in set of three instead of an even flow, even when a professional plays. I imagine it would be more natural to do tremolo in set of 2 or 4 notes, but of course using 4 fingers is impractical.

The "economy" of left hand fingers positioning is so clever. Look how at 0:22 to 0:23 how she moves from the C7 pattern, up to d in 2nd string and pressing f on 1st string 1st fret with the low part of her index, succeeding in a flowing change!!
