I've been cutting my own hair for a few years now with mixed results, watching tutorials and trying to improve from time to time. But this is the first video that really clicked it for me and the results has gotten much better since. This technique is really easy and foolproof. Thanks for a brilliant tutorial, you've made a lot of people happier!
I just use a number 12 guard i got from amazon works fine, number 12 leaves enough hair to comb hair back compared to a number 10 which leaves my hair spikey 😂😂😂
@@JR-vr6ri yes, the 12 guard is 38 mm I first bought the number 10 guard to test which is 32 mm but it left my hair spikey after I took a shower since hair was still short, but with the 12 guard it left just enough length where I could comb it back without it sticking up 😂👍

Wow. Works very well indeed. I've tried a few times to cut my own hair over the last year with limited success. Despite being a bit apprehensive about using the clipper this way, this method is by far the easiest with the best results. Got my wife to finish the back edges, and around the ears. Thank you very much - appreciated!
By far the best tutorial on RUclips. Ive been cutting my hair for years but this video shows me where I was going wrong. I have the same hairstyle as you which made it so much easier. Thanks for the video
I’ve learnt such a lot with this video, more than any other self cut on RUclips. Firstly to keep the blades in the closed position as they cut better, the video is must watch based solely on this piece of advice. Next your blending technique using the different guards in different directions while respecting the skull shape. Thanks for this.
The best self haircut videos on RUclips. Thanks for your straight forward instructions and advice. You gave me the tools and courage I needed to cut my own hair without worrying too much that I would screw it up. I've successfully cut my own hair 3 times since April thanks to your videos. Stay well Michael.

I’ve been trying to cut the top of my hair with scissors, bending like a gymnast with terrible results. I’ve even got a pro barber clipper to do the sides. Ive watched countless of videos on how to cut hair, but none of them mentioned to do the clipper with hair not against. This is groundbreaking. Thanks man
After looking at other methods, yours seemed to be the easiest and it gave me the results I wanted. Used a 12mm on top and came down the sides with a 9mm. Turned a mop head into a respectable look. Now just have to maintain it every 2 weeks and all done. Thanks for the great vid's from the back woods of Alabama USA
Wow, you are a lifesaver, I've been cutting my own hair for decades and after all that time i never thought about going from the back to the front! I can't wait to try this 2morr. And you're absolutely right, if you cut the top from the front to the back, it'll just hack it all off. 🙏🏻👍🏻🙂
It's an unusual technique for sure but the results can be surprising. All the best of luck with your cut and share to anyone you feel would also benefit. 👍👍👍
That's great to hear. I'm glad this has been a big help to you. It can be done. All I'd say is and I'm sure you know this anyway. Even if you are getting good at cutting your barber will produce the highest standards for you as they can cut without mirrors and generally have all the tools.
My hair was a Covid mess. Long and uneven as hell and bushy. Following your instruction I combed it down all over an then just whacked it with the 9mm on top and all around, just working downward. It looked great in 5 minutes after some work with the 6mm as you suggested. Very pleased, very easy and I'm confident to try it again. It looks a lot better than I'd dared to hope. Thank you.
I've started doing 2 months ago self haircuts. Always wondered how to cut the top, and the sides, and blend the side fade. This is insane technique really! So easy , and simple , and it just works! The only thing I need to practice is behind. Even with mirrors I can't make it good. I mean I did, but I need time really, while side fades and top I do fast, especially after this tutorial! Thanks a lot man!
I bought myself a hair clipper set for Christmas and gave myself first haircut today using your clear, concise, informative and entertaining instructional video. I learned a lot and felt confident. My first haircut, I'd rate myself an 8.5/10...with practice it'll get better! Thanks mate couldn't have done it without you ✌️ PS. as a woman with a longer hairstyle, I used an 8 on top, 7 on the side, 6 on neck taper. Fantastic results with your "cut with the natural direction" method.

Question though: if you’re only removing the bulk on top and continue this method for the next several hair cuts, would you eventually have to cut the length at some point? I typically do a #6 or #8 guard on top going against the grain. Don’t feel comfortable using scissors for the top
