Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has also adopted this look around the cockpit windows on their newest livery. This is mostly common on their Airbus fleet, but recently they've painted Boeing 737 jets in the new livery with the "raccoon mask" and all.
All in all I must say that I really like the look. Sure, it looks better with some liveries and worse with others but in the end it’s a cool design feature. I prefer Airbus‘s rounded design though, but the eyeliner Air Canada has looks also pretty good!
Yes, just like modern cars! Noticed how most cars always look 'angry' and with an attitude? Maybe if cars had their designs made less intimidating and aggressive there could be a positive flow on effect. Stay safe.
On Air Canada's Boeing 777 they even painted the Boeing gray metal frames that surround the windows black (All 777s and other Boeing aircraft except the 787 have a metal frame surrounding the cockpit windows)
I think anyone who's ever watched American football understands why the surrounding pilot windows are painted black. It helps absorb the light reflection. However, now I understand how Air Canada which has a lot of 737 MAXs might want to do the same since Airbus has that on their planesd. Perhaps it helps people feel more secure thinking they are in an A32x instead of a MAX?
The black mask is more about aesthetics than about functionality. It is way too thin on both Airbus and Air Canada aircraft to have an effect. TWA‘s 747s often had most of their nose in front of the cockpit painted black, here it may have had an effect but nowadays that isn’t needed because other windshields are used (I think)
Every single aircraft I design in CAD includes this. Not just for style, but to also be a streamlining addition for ease of aerodynamics, and I guess for window upkeep too. :)
That is pertinent because one of AC's competitors, Porter Air, used a racoon as a mascot. Porter Air also uses the insidious trick of 'good service', which AC is in no danger of discovering any time soon.
I always thought a lot of the airbus aircraft had a weird and somewhat ugly cockpit window design but this black mask does wonders in making aircrafts like the a330 look good, brilliant idea that’s also functional
TWA had this kind of design on their 747-100 (just a note, they didn’t completely painted the outline, there was this dark area under the cockpit windows to absorb heat or something)
If that was the reason this rather thin line doesn’t have much of an effect, if not any at all. On the A350 the mask has a purpose, like it was said in the video, but on the A320 family and A330s it’s only cosmetic! :D
I reckon it looks bad. Also It's not efficient thermodynamically, which makes a difference at those speeds. It's just a look that will look outdated and out of fashion soon enough. Things go in cycles.
Not big on them. Especially Air Canada. Would’ve much preferred their planes without the mask. Looks more angular and sharp with out. With the black mask it looks blobby.
Your outro again has much louder volume to the rest of the video, sounds like your yelling So dislike the video just for that, otherwise would've been a 👍
That is completely ridiculous. How would you feel if you spent lots of time on a video, doing your research and making it look good and it ends up getting hundreds of dislikes all because you slightly messed up the volume at the end. It wasn't even that much louder, if you had your volume set at a normal level, it wouldn't be a problem. If it bothered you that much you could have just removed the like, never dislike a video for insignificant things. I strongly suggest you remove the dislike
This makes Airbus' NEOs look much cooler in my opinion :)
Yes
Yea
I second that
Definitely
Yea

I love Air Canada's livery, so slick!
Air Canada has 10/10 aesthetics
It really looks good, it gives these planes a polarized look.
I like the bigger side windows of the DC-10/MD-11. Makes the planes look really angry.
Yes, just like modern cars! Noticed how most cars always look 'angry' and with an attitude? Maybe if cars had their designs made less intimidating and aggressive there could be a positive flow on effect. Stay safe.
I'm very fond of those older 757 hot rods and the Northern Pacific's masking and overall livery are very attractive!
Reminds me when Swissair first flew the Boeing 747, the cockpit windows were within a back inverted triangle.
Air Belgium please!
Some of Lufthansa’s airbus a320neos and airbus a321neos have this mask too
I really like this, it gives a great look to things like old 757s
It looks pretty awesome and very cool as well
Was Airbus the first with the outline or air canada?
The A350 had its first flight in 2013, so four years before Air Canada unveiled their new livery.
Makes them look fast even when parked.
The black cockpit window looks very cool on airplanes especially on the all of the Airbus neo variants
Racoon masks makes them cooler 😎
N88ZL (Boeing 707) had a really cool looking aggressive styled mask.
Next Video: Why old planes have Eyebags on Cockpit Windows? :3
The dark outline looks spectacular!!
I really love the look on A321 neo x
Yes, I like the look of the new window outline.

A hifly A330 came in to lax a few months ago and i thaught it was a neo and then i saw the engines
Looks menacing
AC Totally Cool!!
I’m a Boeing guy but I really dig the look..
Same here!!
Air Canada has us covered.
The black mask makes the planes look legit
The superhero mask lol

@@spongebubatz That's true, I forgot about the early 747 series and their dark Zoro mask.
Every single aircraft I design in CAD includes this. Not just for style, but to also be a streamlining addition for ease of aerodynamics, and I guess for window upkeep too. :)
Trying to be like Batman and Robin.
The Air Canada mask is colloquially called the Raccoon Mask.
Looks more like a weasel mask to me. I have also heard it called a mutant ninja turtle mask.
That is pertinent because one of AC's competitors, Porter Air, used a racoon as a mascot. Porter Air also uses the insidious trick of 'good service', which AC is in no danger of discovering any time soon.
Aegean Airlines has also adopted the black mask both on the newer A320s neo and on the older ceo
Never been a fan of the raccoon look...starting with the A350.
Even Air Belgium has a "Mask" its a330s and a340s it looks very different from its parent company i.e British Airways.
Aegean Airlines has also started doing this on their older A320ceo's (alongside the neo) on their new livery!
2 let's goooooo!
good job
You forgot Trade Air, they have a mask as well! Even on the old Fokker 100's, pretty cool! And based in Europe > Croatia :D
CMA CGM AirCargo also does the same to their A330 freighters with a mask like design…
They look more cooler like that more black more cooler
I always thought a lot of the airbus aircraft had a weird and somewhat ugly cockpit window design but this black mask does wonders in making aircrafts like the a330 look good, brilliant idea that’s also functional
Even air canada and northern Pacific
Reminds me of nuclear war blinds on bomber aircraft. 🙂
Vigilante crime fighting airliners! Who are they? We can't tell with their cockpit window masks! Gosh golly, they're heroic!
Could've mentioned AeroFlyer, with a grey instead of black mask around their 737-600 windows.
It does look cooler but I wouldn't choose to fly it for that readon. Bigger windows, wider seats that recline more get my attention.
TWA had this kind of design on their 747-100
(just a note, they didn’t completely painted the outline, there was this dark area under the cockpit windows to absorb heat or something)
Yeah a lot of airlines have that actually, like Westjet had it on there older livery (new liveries don’t have that dark area under window)
I like it because it make airplane good and modernaize
New Bulgarian airline Gullivair also does this with their A330s and their turbo props
Another European carrier that has the black outline is Bulgaria’s Gullivair which has the outline on it’s A330-200s and ATR 72-600s
Abramovich did this before everyone else on his private 767 since 2005
Look 😎 cool The A350 is the best 👍
Air Canada really pulls it off the best
Don't forget gullivair on a330-200
I love it
Personally I think it’s a good look
Mask-Style windows= panda 🐼🐼🐼 which I think it’s very cute
I think that the rounded look from airbus actually looks pretty good, but I’ve never liked air Canada’s mask.
What about finnair atr?
😎
I wonder, has any passenger jet been painted pure black? Could it be done even?
Hi ho Silver!
Only looks good on it's rightful owner the a350
The raccoon. I like it.
I hate Air Canada’s mask, but love the Airbus’, especially on the A350!
I guess it makes no difference to me. I'm not the one flying the plane.
I think the “mask” is really cool and I’m glad that airlines are adding them to older aircraft.
Dope
The dark outline looks cool
Finnair has painted their ATR 72-500 so and they look much newer.
Or someone just gave them a black eye!
I keep calling them airplane sunglasses
Boeing wants to be Airbus !!
Air Bus
This makes planes look cooler than before.
Simply put, the mask look on all the aircraft is cool. Every airliner should carry the look.
I’ve seen a lot of changes in my 35 years as an A&P mechanic. I absolutely love the black around the cockpit windows.
Mask windows made cockpit windshields look bigger
How🤔 about we mask passenger windows?
Air Canada's 787s look really bad4ss!!
Batman’s Batjet.
I think it is done to reduce glare, and less so as a cosmetic issue
If that was the reason this rather thin line doesn’t have much of an effect, if not any at all. On the A350 the mask has a purpose, like it was said in the video, but on the A320 family and A330s it’s only cosmetic! :D

Ghastly
these planes look like they want to robby a bank
Cuz it looks cool
Ok bye
I really like the look of these masks
Not big on them. Especially Air Canada. Would’ve much preferred their planes without the mask. Looks more angular and sharp with out. With the black mask it looks blobby.
I hate it

So dislike the video just for that, otherwise would've been a 👍
this is basically the stupidest reason to dislike a video i’ve ever heard😂
