When you said LSG my brain when to drugs.🤦♀️LOL These donkeys are so *ADORABLE* I had no idea they can be livestock guardians. I learned something new today and that sir is AWESOME-SAUCE!!
@@RidgeLife quick question, if you get more than one will they still protect the farm or be more focused on protecting each other? Just curious. I always wondered if their protective nature was extended to the other animals because of territory more or because of bonding with the other animals because they lack the presence of other donkeys? I figure the breeder having many would know if there is a difference in their behavior because they have multiple donkeys.
Nice video guys. Something special about farming it’s a great life......sometimes. Hello from Australia I’m a new subscriber of yours thanks for this. 👍🇦🇺😊
dad had a couple of donkeys, as a child i would set on them, they wasn't trained but for some reason they would just stand, my brother and I would do this all the time. They are differently a great asset
We have a donkey down the road. That sucker is so loud...that when I first moved here I thought he was in my yard. I’ve heard donkeys are good guardian animals. That and peacocks?? I want a cow now
We have two donkeys/burros. We had a third, but he got old and died a few years ago. I love ours. They have more personality than a horse. Mules are fun too. If you pack them, and try to lead them horseback, they are too slow and pull your arm off. I know folks that turn them loose and they follow along though. Mine would head for the hills in the wrong way as fast as they could go! On foot though, they are perfect! Load your gear and lead them like a big dog. Mine are not good livestock watchers. They would watch the livestock get eaten!
I used to think Donkeys were a docile animal till I saw an article where a donkey killed a mountain lion trying to get its baby changed my whole perspective on them good luck god bless!
We have a Gelding at home and he's the sweetest. We haven't had bears or coyotes come in our yard ever since we got him so I think he's doing something 😊 and the kids ride him too just like a horse. I've heard they can turn against newborn lambs so just be careful of that but so far ours has been okay with the sheep. Well have to see when we have new lambs born.
Love donkeys!! Can't wait to see what you pick!! I used llamas for my gaurd crew they were very easy on the land & I sold the fiber to a local spinner so win win 😁 what a great family day 😊 🤗
Donkeys will often bond with other donkeys if they are housed in the same pasture or paddock, protecting only themselves and sometimes ignoring the herd. A lone donkey will bond more easily with the livestock and protect the entire herd.
@@RidgeLife I believe only gelded males are used as guardian. But still, I will still go for female donkey due to it's natural maternal instinct. I think the important thing is the bond. If the donkey is bonded to at least 1 sheep, and the sheep hang around with the herd, it's effectively guarding the entire herd.
looks like a fun time! We looked at donkeys before we got Lucy, I just heard so many horror stories with donkeys and goats but I say they would work great for cattle.

Thank you very much!

The donkey we used didn't accept any new animals into our herd unless they were born there. We had big issues with him.
Ugh! I've been hearing horror stories.
@@RidgeLife You would have some different things to put into Death Hollow though!😂
