Not returning the engine to gasoline mode and letting it idle for a few minutes to let the cylinder head temp get lower is the leading cause of head cracks, also those heads are real hard to find. ChiefD
I was always told to shut it off in diesel mode or you stand a chance of cracking heads or warping them because you drop the valve away from the head and it can’t cool with the rest of the iron
according to everything that I have read and studied on this engine ( and I have had several) the engine should NEVER be shut off on gas mode! this will have a adverse effect on the starting valves if they are left to cool in that position, causing warpage and cracked seats. they are much better off in diesel position.
My dad had a TD 14 when i was a kid.He never switched it back to gas be for shutting it down.He would just push the diesel throttle all the way down and it would die.He said it was not necessary.But i have seen people do it both ways.
@RailRoadWorker18 No, you shouldn't have to shut off the gas when you switch the tractor to diesel. The gas is shut off and spark plugs are grounded when you move the compression lever to the diesel position.
I have one more question if thats ok, I just cant seem to get the BullGrader in Gear. I think it has 4 Gears that you can shift into, but for some reason it wont let me put it in gear and i dont want to force it to hard to the point of brakeing it. and its the same setup as your TD-6 but mine has an extra lever thats attached right to the side of the trasmition next to the Stick Shift. any idea why it wont let me in gear? Thank You Very Much
I have just purchased a TD 6. However, it won't start on gas. There is electricity, and gas in the bowl. If I put some gas in the intake the engine will operate for a few seconds, until the gas is used, and then it stops. I am thinking perhaps the plates -to open and close off the gas from the bowl are stuck; not opening to allow the gas to be pulled into the intake and engine cylinders. Does anyone or the Iowa boys have any help on the above? I remain appreciative. Thom thumb blues
+Thomas Kipley DuGan Float in the carb is likely stuck in the closed position or the jet is clogged. Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and see if there is gas there. If so, it is the carb.
the setting on the linkage need,s to be tight and set rite on spec or it will not work i have not worked on one for long long time have changed some of big tractor,s to direct electric good battery and little either they will pop rite off
Hi, I have a TD-14A Bull Grader when I switch to diesel should i shut the gasoline off like ive been doing so it dose not mix with the diesel or dose it take in gas when its on diesel? Thanks
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I grew up running TD 6 tractors. Yours looks beautiful.
Very sweet... starts and runs much better than the old TD 14 I used to operate as a young man..
I love this video. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
damn thats nice! i dont see enough of these around anymore!
And here I thought mine ran good...... What a great running 6!!
You should take her to the Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. My family and I go every year.
@joeyteamxracing
You should always switch your gas over diesels back to gas when on shut down mode...great way to crack a head or further damage...

Perfect !

Switch it back to gasoline before shutting it down would also help clean to plugs of any diesel fuel residue

Please, what voltage on the International TD6 crawler
Can I start it with a 12 volts 95 amp battery?
I have the same TD6 in France
Where did you guys get your parts from im having trouble finding any!

BoredIowaBoys: You shouldn't have to turn off the gas, I probably would out of habit of working around old tractors with leaky carbs.
Where is the hand crank. We have one just like it and until the 90's it was hand crank started.
Does it have more Power on any of the fuels or is it equal? IE give it a boost and switch to higher Power if needed.
@OzzInter Agreed
