I’ve been saying this for years. Candiace has a deep rooted colorism issue that goes far beyond Gizelle and Robyn. She constantly yells about white adjacency and their proximity to whiteness. If Candiace had said she’d love for her kids to look like her that would have been a normal thing to say, but she worded her comment as a “fear of having light skinned children”😵💫. So I agree that it was a bizarre thing to say especially when you already have light skinned stepchildren. However, it’s no shocker given the world we live in - a place where light skinned people are often seen, treated, and behave as superior (to varying degrees).
That means there's some insecurity there

I am married to a white man as well and wasn’t sure HOW our children would come out looking. It wasn’t a concern then. I just wanted them healthy (they were). I thought they would look something like me. I went to my son’s kindergatren event and one of his classmates (little white girl), said to him “I didn’t know you had one of those kinds of moms”. I said “What kind of mom would that be?”, she said “dark”😂😂😂 I said “black”😂😂😂 She looked genuinely confused as to HOW my son could have a black momma. That was over 20 years ago.

In times gone by, it was not unusual for dark skin. People only wanted to marry light skin people so their children didn't look black. I knew of this growing up, so the comment didn't phase me. She only needs to address it with Chris and her stepchildren. All the best to them ❤

Candiace needs a better filter. as a brown skinned person I understand what shes saying, it has to do with shared perspective with your kids and experiences of colorism. when youve experienced discrimination from light skinned people you could be nervous about how that relationship with your own kids might be impacted by colorism.
any "preferences" related to skin tone is the result of colorism.
I think this is something to work out in therapy, she probably doesn't even realize that she has alot to unpack. she shouldn't be saying this stuff in public.
I said this under another video but I’ll say it here too. I am a dark skinned woman who married a white man and had kids with him. I felt the exact same way as Candiace. My reasoning was because I feared my kids wouldn’t look like me or any of my family members. Not every thing is sinister and two things can be true. She can be an advocate and call out colorism AND want chocolate complexed children even though she’s married to a white man. My only issue is given who smart and articulate she is, I wish she would have been more careful with her words.

As a brown woman married to a light skinned man, I fully expected my melanin to dominate. Surprisingly it did not. I love my babies but NGL wanted at least one to be a mini me in all aspects. I don't think that's colorism it's natural to want to reproduce yourself.

I understand where Candiace is coming from, she’s not dumb, she just needs therapy to address her trauma as it relates to colorism. I said I wanted my children to look like me as well or at least be more melanated than my husband knowing full well he’s light complected. I wouldn’t have gotten on the internet and said that though knowing my bonus babies would eventually hear the clip but what she said isn’t shocking or surprising.

I don’t see anything wrong with what Candiace said, especially she’s probably traumatized by the colorist & preferential treatment of Giselle, Ashley, & Robyn since joining the cast, & this may have skewed her feelings. I don’t see how that’s being colorist. Plus it’s natural for healthy people to want their children to resemble them, & to love your blackness, so what’s the issue? The only thing that I feel conflicts with her statement is who she chose to marry, but you never know where you find love. That doesn’t automatically erase your desires. I wasn’t disturbed by Candiace’s light skinned kids comment at all. It is perfectly “normal” to prefer your kids to look like you. I don’t think she has an issue with her color at all. She spoke correctly that Giselle’s privilege comes from her proximity to whiteness. Her marrying a white man, I believe is due to not being able to partner with a black man who treats her the way Chris does. People seem to despise everything opposite of anti blackness. It’s fine to prefer brown and black as a black person, I don’t understand why her step kids would be offended by that unless they expect her to prefer their aesthetic over her own.

I've been windmilling in the RUclips and Twitter streets about wanting children to have a darker hue. I think people are so accustomed to the notion of desiring to be lighter. That someone, of a darker hue, saying they want their child to be their darker complexion gets so much back lash. I would love to know what came before the state. And, if the interviewer asked a follow-up question for her to elaborate on the fear.

Context is key in every situation. After Candiace constantly and consistently have such strong stand on skin hue related argument, there is no possibility that her comments on the same topic could be compare to someone preferences about how much hair they would prefer or not. Stop trivialising such a sensitive matter. There is no other way around it. That mouth of hers will get her in some serious trouble.
Simon has every to get an opinion on who/how/when/where/what Porsha show the world about herself. This is the same Porsha would refused to attend the event her Aunt (her father's sister) organised for her grandfathers charity because she wasn't placed in the center when there's no known actions toward the cause outside filming Rhoa. The same Simon literary went after her aunt prompted by her on her spinoff. Remember the viewers defending her aunt following the way Simon disrespected her. Being the granddaughter of such an strong activist doesn't make you worth his legacy. Porsha own father was never linked to the charity instead it was revealed that her mother stole money from the same charity and that was the reason why the Williams family wanted nothing to do with Ms Diane. It's one thing to inherit a family name but it's a completely different thing to be deserving/representative of it. How is it ok to consider Porsha who assaulted several black people on unrelated cases on camera as a so called dignify individual to hold the light on what's important for black people. The same Porsha who tried to get her baby daddy and his mother jailed in one of the most dangerous countries in the world just because he flew another woman to join his at a place where Porsha and her then still married fiance were too?
