    Tap washers. The little rubber washers sold in hardware shops for sealing bathroom taps, make excellent buttons for parachord & braided jesses.

    Great jesses! They work on pigeons and kestrels very well, but I don't have an x-acto knife, so I used scissors (pinching the paracord and cutting along the edge), which was even easier! I am excited to make some for my new kestrel. I make smaller leashes and jesses but they are light enough for kestrels and tangle-free. I used 100 feet of paracord making these for my friends' pigeons... Highly recommended!
    (Yes, I put jesses on pigeons. for practice! Pigeons are stronger than kestrels and are excellent testers!)

    Great idea! I always did mine with leather and just now ive tried some braided ones. Paracprd seems like the way to go tbh.

    I'll have to make a video of how i make mine, but yours seems simpler. I have used para-cord on my red-tail with no button just a knot. It seems to work great. Beautiful bird by the way. Can't wait to see her hunt.

    Sorry for any error but my English isn't very good :D.

      @@FalconryTold can i use the : atwood rope mfg tactical paracord rg1151
      Its 3/32 inch = 2.4 mm wide
      And has 4 strands
      I am sure its not strong enough
      for eagles and such
      But if i use it on: kestrel(falco tinnunculus)
      Or maybe sparrowhawk or goshawk
      Do you think it would work out?
      Iam curious because i originally wanted the 550lb one
      But i somehow screwed up the order and got this one instead
      I dont want to risk to lose all my precious feathered friends so iam asking first
      Thank you in advance

    I thought the point of thin leather was to rot and fall off if your bird decides to return to the wild well out in the field or back yard...

    • @tristenludewick3030
      @tristenludewick3030 5 лет назад +1

      That's the goal of leather anklets.

    • @jackdaniels7913
      @jackdaniels7913 4 года назад

      Thin ones are used wen first training and early field work as a precaution if I'm not mistaken then thicker ones made for a more trusted and reliable birds... but I'm no professorial just an educated observer with aspiration of a hobby that's a life style I'm not currently set to achieve lol

    They don't work the inner strands snap when you try to pull it through to make the loop and the hot knife melts the inner ones to the rest I think it was a good idea but it doesn't work

  • @TheVeganMarshmallow
    @TheVeganMarshmallow 9 лет назад +1

    Would you recommend these for a red-tail (male or female?) I love the seeming lightness and strength, but was curious how it would hold up with a 700-800g bird

    • @falconersapprentice9837
      @falconersapprentice9837 9 лет назад

      You can buy thicker paracord, which I would for a larger bird. If you tether your bird a lot, paracord is a stress reliever. If you like to fly your hawks light, paracord flying jesses are very popular.

    I would think that the paracord would lose its strength when you pull ALL of the internals out...?

    Great video and content. I'd rather you explain what you are doing rather than just show us what you are doing. It's not totally self-explanatory as you would believe through the video. If you melt mineral oil and bees wax together and then saturate the leather with this product it will NEVER deteriorate even after years of being in the weather. Though I do replace replace leather Jesse's every few years just to be safe.

      Definitely, for her body they would be considered good-sized feet, but definitely nothing compared to a red's whompers. Believe it or not I had to buy a thicker glove than my redtail glove because she kept piercing me through it. Never had that problem with a redtail.

      No, budgie feet are to small and fragile to use anything like this on them. Budgies will break their legs as will most other parrots except for maybe the largest ones but even then I'd be wary they would also break their legs.

    So, if the bird decides to fly away and the jesse gets caught in a branch, you just starved the bird to death.

    I have a blog: Internationalfalconryacademy.blogspot.com. I do not cut my par accord jesses. I use a need and cord from inside the jesses to thread through the material. Also, something called a ‘fid’ works well too. I would NEVER cut the paracord
