I've read the manga. So far, it's surprisingly good. I love the take in the adventure genre about a retired hero. The romance genre's decent too.

Mao invites Max to the Demon world and they spend a fun day there and start acting on their emotions. That night they get a room and finally kiss and have sex. Following that, Mao and Max actually proceed to get married, but Mao's Michael Jackson Muzan ass looking subordinate brutally beats the shit out of Max and dumps him back in the human realm. The current arc is Max going back to the Demon world, defeating the Demon King's subordinates to earn being worthy of being together with the Demon King.

Well Max and Maou travelled to the demon realm, had sex for the first time and decided to marry. But another very powerful demon who is obsessed with Maou got jealous and opposed their marriage. So he challenged Max to a duel, defeated Max and was about to kill him. Maou in order to save Max had no choice but to stop the duel and expelled Max from her realm. After bidding Max farewell Maou retired to her chamber stripped naked and remnisced about the great sex they had. Then the demon dude barged in, pinned her down on the floor and...😭😭😭

There's a distinct moment in the opening chapters of the manga where Zenia points out that Maou's "equipment" is gone and not so subtly implies that the reincarnation switched her gender. Maou herself doesn't identify with any gender though because she has the power of total transformation and could be male or female any time she wanted for however long she wanted. It's simply meaningless to her.
