It is all about the manpower, not the fortification.
UA has not enough men, and they fill the gaps on the front with pressed civilians, who do not want to fight.
The key factor are the rear guard forces, the high motivated nationalist forces!
They make shure that no one surrenders, but they got decimated by every stronghold they defended.
And new high motivated nationalists are not available, they are already in the army or the secret service.
This is the main problem of UA. If the Azov people get reduced (denazification), than the war ends by surrendering of UA troops, who are not in any way, enemies of Russian troops.

It looks like they are about to dice them up in multiple pushes in different areas. I even think they will push in the South once it gets going. I expect they will move on Zaporozhia as well. They look poised to take everything East of the Dnieper before a pivot on to Odessa, but that will unfold over many months. The hammer should fall in the next three weeks.

But the thing is, it doesn't only come down to historical ownership. In fact, I doubt it would even be in Russia's interests to annex regions which aren't populated by Russians or pro-Russian population in Ukraine, as it would only lead to more unrest and conflict further down the line. And don't forget that Russia also holds certain areas which historically didn't belong to Russia until very recently. For example, the Kaliningrad oblast was historically part of Germany/Prussia/Poland, but never Russia. Do you also think Germany and Poland nowadays have a rightful claim to this territory?

Tribe that ruled there was the Alans called by the Romans ,also known as Aryans who were from S.W. Ural Mountains which brought the world to the horses of today except Mongol smaller horses. Hope that clears everything up for your lack of context of history geographic or otherwise. Po Russian= Prussian, Po Lang= Poland , the word Po means near or like. Sarma-German was close to the Western low country south Lower Saxony , the Freisens were very small tribal buffer between the Gauls and their ilk.

Just because they were Russian at some point in history doesn't mean they are rightfully Russian today. Saying one is true but not the other is just pure hypocrisy.

Ukraine is F**** - do not overcommit is a good idea, but if you have no soldiers and the other side - Russia - can just open ANOTHER area then have fun not overcommitting. No reserves, everything stretched thin, and Russia just wins the attrition anyway every day. The only logical way out is negotiations, though I fear the answer here is "Njet, Surrender" and anything except that does not change the situation. This is the moment - in chess - you throw the game and accept you lost. Defend everywhere means defend in depth nowhere. How far can Russia push, realistically? How good is their logistics side?

Realistically russia has the logistics and reservist manpower to take the whole of ukraine, but itll likely end up in an absoloute surrender and a puppet government in kiev. Maybe odessa annexed alongside kharkiv? I cant imagine they fully integrate ukranian speaking areas

Russia still has 150K+ new army troops that have finished months of concentrated training. They are still in Russian territory, awaiting deployment for the first time. My guess is that they will wait until June for a mass deployment, and they may break off some of them to go after Sumy.

Lyptsi is a deadend in valley surrounded bu heights and is unimportant. Russia should stay on the ridge above it and pound away. The utility of this action in the north is Russia got the Ukrainians to pull experienced units from places where they were well dug in and got them to come fight here without good entrenchments.
Use the firepower advantage until they dig in well, then leave a covering force and move elsewhere to repeat the process.

But first another diversion around Sumy to pull even more troops from the Kherson and Odessa area.
Its very apparent Ukraine took money and politicians pocketed it and we'll see more of this along other areas soon.

It started with 3-5k, after they took the first few villages they sent in another wave of ~3k which also included tanks, and then 1-2 days ago it was reported by some sources that they sent in another wave, but that could just be them sending in reserves to be closer to the front, since they have successfully expanded further in.
My guess is 8k-12k, keep in mind that the Kharkiv front is not that big (~70-80km wide), so you can't just bomb rush the place with tens of thousands.
