    Please do a comparison on the makita 9 inch 40v grinder and the m18 fuel 9 inch grinder. I'm really curious to see the differences between them.

    I have the 6in grinder. They are common in the USA. I use it a lot for cutting masonry block and concrete. And it’s just nice to have that extra 1in on cutting depth.

      6" grinders aren't really that common though. Sure, many hardware stores carry a small handful of 6" grinder blades (and it's usually only one or two options), but that's only a fraction of what's available in 4.5, 5, and 7".

    yeah i do agree with your view here... the 5 inch grinder seems best. can always augment that with a decent recip saw if need to make metal cuts they will do that. i suppose *maybe* shrugs a dedicated metal chop saw would be an equivalent of a mitre saw for cutting metal maybe? however a recip saw would just be cheaper and a lot more versatile to get usage in other types of jobs

    I have the 5 inch version with variable speed so with the proper PPE I can safely use 9 inch flap discs, the 40V have plenty of tork at least for my use in metal. I highly recommend buy the 40V version with variable speed, costs just a little more and is a mote flexible tool. The only drawback is that my 2.5A battery wears out very quickly. I would not say that you can use a 9 inch disk for concrete but for grind metal this 40V little beast have the power needed to the task even when I use 9" discs!

  • @tadasstrikauskas1205
    @tadasstrikauskas1205 2 года назад +8

    The RPM differs between sizes in order to maintain same linear velocity at the disk/ material contact point.
    Bigger the radius (mm), smaller angular velocity (rpm) - same linear velocity (m/s)

    • @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
      @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL  2 года назад +5

      But the linear velocity is constantly changing as the disc wears down.

    • @tadasstrikauskas1205
      @tadasstrikauskas1205 2 года назад +5

      @@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Yes, the material of a disk is removed, radius degrades, so the final cutting / grinding performance drops.
      But the initial linear velocity is limited by the very strength of the material of the disk.
      Turns out the speed is marked by color code on the disk.

      So are the bigger grinders technically more powerful?

    • @tadasstrikauskas1205
      @tadasstrikauskas1205 2 года назад +1

      @@colekidd2 Not necessary.
      More powerful grinder will remove more material in the same time. It does not say anything with size.
      Bigger size only allows to perform deeper cuts or grind in less circular manner.

    Not sure if the stall test, by pushing sideways on the stone/blade is such a good idea, cherry on the top is that you also do it without the protective cover :) A note on the gear ratio, relevant is the ratio between the two gears from the same device. Beside that thanks for showing the beasts, i have an inexpensive 125mm, no-name one, for anything more i will get the corded one.

    What is with Makita and their 37 angle grinders for the XGT line? How about a new cordless router and jigsaw? I mean who made the decision to release a vacuum cleaner, 2 radios, 2 flashlights and a fan before the basic tools every shop should have? I doubt anyone is thinking "Gee, I'd like to switch to the XGT line but I can't because they don't have a fan"'. No wonder all my local stores have never heard of XGT. Ridiculous.

      The power tool sales reps at our local Home Depots and other stores have never heard of the XGT line. You would think Makita would want people talking up the product by offering tools that most people would find useful in their garage or shop. Kinda nervous to pull the trigger on the XGT Circular saw if they aren't really planning on offering other basic tools. Last thing I want is multiple batteries for different tools. Makita should really announce what their future plans are for this line instead of playing this shell game. I love Makita tools but this release just seems half baked.

      @@jayt2266 I mean, I wouldn't recommend Home Depot as a Makita source in the first place. You want some OPE? They carry the single battery LXT only so as to make the TTI products look better. You'll notice SBD wouldn't let them pull that shit. SBD carries a big stick. You want LXT? For the rest of the line, the product mix is pretty freaking sparse and based on a combination of high margins and budget fair. That subcompact rotary hammer is about $99 outside of the USA... The only store I've been to that carries brushed Makita cordless = Home Depot... etcetera. I'm lucky, I live near a major city, therefore I can walk into a store and get the full range of the major brands in my hands. I appreciate that that is not the case for everybody. By all means: buy online.

      Their existing 5" grinder is petite and holds up against my corded Makita (easily) and Metabos (almost). In theory, I agree with you. In use; those little brushless Makita motors are...well...little. But as to the why: they have a set of motors and build the tools around those. That said, I do wish they stepped up the size of the motors on my three saws. Not that they need to, but because it I want more power.:0

    You lost me at paddle switch. Hate the things. To me they make you hold the grinder too far back and the balance goes all wrong. Also because the only grinder I have ever had with the so called safety switch failed to turn off when I let go came round on me and tried to cut the top of my thumb off. It cut the nerves and to this day the only feeling I have in that thumb is permanent pins and needles and pain. I agree though 5 inch grinder one of the most versatile tools you can buy.
