Starting at 5:11 when the footage shifts away from the snow and unwrapping of Christmas gifts, the footage is likely from Summer 1944. The issue of Life Magazine being read by one of the soldiers at 8:04-8:10 was the June 19, 1944 issue.
Memories of my grandfather in those uniforms, then through the years different members of our family served in the Armed Forces including us. This is the part of history our younger generation is been robbed, the opportunity to learn and understand the reasons of war. Unsure why we are letting our history to be forgotten, instead un meaningful subject are being taught in our schools today. Sad. Salute to our heroes of then and forever. 🫡🇺🇸
This footage was originally shot in color. If you search for colorized footage and then watch it next to this, there is no comparison in quality and spectrum of color.
The scene at 1:36, showing the kid sitting around the campfire would probably be a local German boy hanging around the soldiers. You can only speculate about his motives, but he seems to be accepted by the GIs.
They were not really GI's. They were war correspondents and part of the US Army Signal Corps. This film is by well known USA Hollywood director George Stevens (Gunga Din and other films) and his crew. You can see George Stevens in many of these Chronos films.
@@1983fj40 are you serious? I have been sitting hear watching these videos to see my daddy who was in the Army over there and fought in WW2, please tell me the truth l know most of these videos must be legitimate, my mom was Dutch and was here during this war my dad n mom married in Amsterdam Holland, l was searching for my mom and dad , l didn’t think that these guys looked like most American soldiers l didn’t know who they
At 0:39, you can see director George Stevens' personal Jeep, "Toluca." He and his family lived in Toluca Lake, CA, very close by major Hollywood movie studios. These films were shot by Stevens and some of his film crew during and right at the end of WWII in Europe. Stevens and his film people were among the first into Dachau and filmed the atrocities they encountered. These films were later used as evidence in the Nuremberg war crimes trials.
Interesting footage of liberated prisoners at Stalag Luft 3 burning their former barracks. That was the camp which generated "The Great Escape", the real one.
Thank you so much for this. Reminds me of my uncles, step-father, Mom, a Rosy the Riviter...except she was a draughtsmen, draughtswoman, whatever, on the B-26.
GIs? These are not GIs; this is mostly the camera unit filming themselves! And most of all, George Stevens; he seems to appear in at least every other clip. Duh! At the end some more genuine like footage, though.
Have you ever felt a kindred conduit of the past? I certainly do and these old 8mm's are the vehicle I love! Part of me wishes this wonderful film had music of the times but another part wants silence to absorb, read lips, smell and feel what they are so many years ago...God, I wish the last 40 yrs of humans had 1 tenth the respect, responsibility, work ethic and love of country and each other that this generation possessed.
Those GIs felt good after surviving the war. Little did they know that a forthcoming conflict was about to decend on them in eight years time. It was called the Korean War.
I noticed in this video one of the officers is wearing a SS belt that's out of line in my view. after all the SS murdered thousands of innocent people. It's so disrespectful to all who died at the hands of the SS.
While stationed in Germany. I always pondered, what did the G.I.s do right after the war was over. And this gave me a great view on how the men before me, spend their time relaxing

So this was during war time ? In a area very secure since they were very relaxed. .. Very leisurely ?
The house/property that has the stream running thru it is so beautiful and picturesque.
Watching these vids reminds me how fast life passes by.

The opening scene with the river bridges is Munich downtown. The mountain lake at 2:37min is Urfeld at the Walchensee south of Munich.
Thank you for presenting this without added sound.
Awesome footage! thank you for sharing!
I love your videos. Thank you so very much for sharing. Where did you get all this footage anyway and did you colorize the film?

I'm sure he was just a kid with no motives. The people of any country usually aren't as wicked as their leaders.

George Stevens at @ movie director from 40 and 50's fame
At about 4:46 with his Christmas gift I wonder if he shared it with his war buddies ? They must've been pretty tight going through all that for years.

Hemingway on the bridge?
Interesting Essman black belt with dead heads.
George Stevens at 4:37
Anyone know anything about the fire?
Looks like a POW camp: probably Stalag Luft III prisoners 28:46 who'd been marched west to Stalag VII-A.
The Andrews Sisters?
This is Hollywood director George Stevens and his film crew.

Nice. They came on the end of war, so was like holiday.
Playback speed 0.75.
The best were the girls....
CRIMINALS
The American military uniform is horrible! 🤮
You don't wear it for fashion, buckwheat. The guys in the pretty uniforms lost the war. That's all that matters.
