What is the plastic pen looking device that comes packaged with a screw and Y shaped metal wire? You skipped over it during unboxing. I bought a similar station and can't figure out what it's for.

You are quite welcome. Just keep in mind that soldering takes patience and a lot of practice before getting good at it. You WILL burn yourself more than once (non fatally, of course), and you will be disappointed in some of your early soldering. That is all expected, and all of us who today consider ourselves good at soldering have gone through that. Just be patient, and above all, practice as much as you can.
@@PE4Doers The last time I soldered was back in 2007 when I was in high school in my electronics class. I enjoyed it back then. I do cell phone, computer and other electronic repairs so I have an additional familiarity with it, so that's a plus on my end lol. Thanks for the additional tips! I ended up ordering the YIHUA 948-II. I have a Sega Dreamcast that I'm going to do some quick mods, such as replace the old, dead CMOS battery with a rechargeable ML2032 battery, replace the one time fuse for the controller port with a re-settable fuse, etc. I'd also like to order some kits to put together with that need soldering work. We built our own voltage/multimeter back in high school and something else that I can't recall. It was very fun. I don't recall what we built exactly, but I know I have it somewhere at my parent's house lol. If you have any places that I can get DIY kits, I'd appreciate the recommendations. Thank you!
Great review David! Pretty nice all in one device. I can see where the hot air blower would come in handy if you were soldering wire connections and wanted to heat shrink the connection. Having everything handy all in one spot is a time saver. Thanks for sharing!
Tony, you have that exactly right. I do regret not buying the sub-model that has a lower-end heat gun however. I may try and find out if I can just replace that with a better one, but I will try using it for a while first. My biggest problem now however is a place to keep it. I may need to setup another special Studio where I can add advanced air exhaust, and use that for soldering, hot air Rework and my upcoming Laser engraver.
So glad you made this video, the quality of your videos is very good - even outside the quality of the content - and I have watched several of your videos for other pieces of networking equipment - the other videos demonstrating this product are just guys throwing a camera at it - and it can be a struggle to watch....so thanks for the taking the time to make quality
you have to use three cables connected to the power supply, that way you can have it output power and act as a multimeter at the same time. Adjust the voltage with the output-display switch on, then you turn it to test-voltage and you can use it to measure the voltage.
Amazon always has good cheap electronics. They might not be brand but they get the job done! I got a $12 soldering iron from amazon awhile back and it still does perfect today. Also your audio almost sounds like its "doubled" in your editing program make sure that you dont have two audio channels stack on each other! Happy YouTubing!
To your point, I have a number of cheap tools that work perfectly well, and some name brands that have failed miserably. I guess it all depends on how the tool needs to be used. I will have to look into the audio issue you mention, since I have only a single track for each clip, though I did switch back and forth between the sound output of my two Sony cameras. I did not have two of them running at the same time however.
That one looks pretty good - just missing the Power Supply/Monitor. I would have seriously considered that one if I noticed it during my original research.

I am a beginner at this, can you confirm or deny this? I think if you leave it on voltage output setting and on low settings you can test for continuity since it beeps when the two probes touch. I could be wrong and this will cause short on the station.

What is the purpose of the Auto/Man button? Also, how to put it in Centigrade vs Fahrenheit?
I believe that allows the Hot Air gun to automatically turn off when place in the saddle.
Would you recommend spending extra for this one or the Yihua 862bd+ 2 in 1 on sale for $101.95 on Amazon?

also sometimes they beep even when the probes is somewhat near and almost touch, not quite sure what that means.
@@stevie5998 That is likely the 'beep' indicates a problem such as a short.

I do not know of any capability for performing that function.
