I'm surprised you guys didn't pick up on this. I was on Ryan's side at first with the too slow melody of this song. I wasn't really feeling it at first. But as you guys started breaking down the lyrics, I actually saw the connection between what Boogie was saying and the slowed down melody. I'm old enough to remember the cassette Walkman. When the batteries started dying, it would begin to sound like the slowed down melody of this song. And I believe that might be on purpose. There are so many double meanings in this song, I can't help but think the slowed down melody is indicative of his batteries dying. That's deep. It changed my whole perspective of the entire song and I had to go back and listen to it again from the beginning. Props to you guys for opening people's minds to music we may not have even been willing to give a chance before. Shout out to the #Freethinkers!
That's an interesting take on this song, Skinny Buddha, and I do remember the Walkman stereos and their run-down batteries - it's a great comparison! It's my first time hearing this song, it has a strange, off-kilter, unbalanced feel to it, I guess I can see where it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but the music actually appeals to me, it reminds me a bit of the way the Swiss experimental metal band Hellhammer (AKA Celtic Frost) used to deliberately slow down some of their songs, to give them an eerie, hazy, unearthly sound, which was a hold-over of the band's habit of listening to early metal and punk records at the wrong speed on record players because the songs sounded "heavier" and "darker" to them that way. ruclips.net/video/ItzQuIbRR-U/видео.html Of course, I'm sure Boogie is coming from somewhere completely different from Hellhammer with this song, but I found the effect to be familiar to me from avant-garde "classical" and metal music recordings.

I'm a part of that segment of your subs that isn't that educated in Hip Hop/R&B beyond mainstream levels, but I'm kinda developing an affinity for it through the way you break it down. Hell, I'll even admit I was a bit of a simp when it comes to rap 'cause I really assumed Joyner was elite just because he rapped fast, but the way you talked about that and broke down how it can be considered a gimmick to smuggle lazy lyrics and so on... I really appreciate that. You might want to do breakdowns of the music along those lines where you talk about it. I think it'd take off. I'd watch.

Im 57 and have always loved the neo jazzy type sound. Im not a lover of the new school rap it all sounds the same to me. But this here, I immediately got the vibe from jump. He was in a dark place, then told his story, his truth, and as he spoke on it he was able to speed up the tempo. Love it!!!!

I can understand the thing about pianos. Most people have an instrument that resonates with them beyond just the melody being played on it. For me, it's the cello, so every songs it gets used in outside classical is a bonus to me. Same as the piano, it can be used effectively in place of a base guitar, which does make them a little more versatile throughout different genres of music than they get credit for in the more pop centric parts of music.
I gotta say i'm with you on this one George, I dug the hell out of this song. I actually listen to him a lot and I think he's absolute fire, his fusion of jazz/soul/trap/hip-hop is just fire to me.
