Inspired by the vibrant colours of the historic district of Triana in Seville, architect and design studio Studio Noju incorporated striking shades of colour and unique textures to zone out this open-plan apartment. Each space is distinguished by a bright, monochrome shade and decorated with low-cost aluminium roof ridge panels known as Cumbreras. A bright blue curtain wraps around the living room, separating it from the combined kitchen and dining space. The recessed kitchen is clad top-to-bottom in a vibrant lime green, with two hidden pantries on either side concealing large appliances. The dining area, bathed in a buttercup yellow, boasts a custom dining table that can be pushed into a niche to double as a study desk. Embracing more neutral tones, the bedroom and bathroom use pale white and charcoal grey, with the exception of a canary-yellow walk-in closet concealed with white curtains.

I know that this channel has been moving more and more away from small apartments and the like, but I fail to understand how renovating a 3 bedroom apartment into a 1 bedroom apartment has to do with the ethos of renovating apartments in cities to make them more functional increasing density instead of tearing down and building new apartments (which I thought the old initial videos were about).

I still don't think that an apartment of this size counts as a genuinely small home, especially if there is only one person living in it. The spaces are generous, and there is more room for storage than there is in some small houses.
The entry door is a work of art, and I'm devastated that they veneered the interior side. The zigzag shelving system is breathtaking, and I now want one of my own. The kitchen storage is amazing. I think the zigzag textures throughout the space make it very special and unique. The colors are very classic.

I agree. In college, I shared an apartment smaller than this one with another woman, her dog and my cat. It was basically 3 equal spaces, the living room at the door end which fit a couch and an armchair, then the middle was divided between the kitchenette w/ a table that seated 2, and the bathroom, then the bedroom at the other end. We used a twin bed with a trundle that had to be closed before we could open the closet. We didn't have a washer/dryer, the refrigerator was tiny, and there were so few cupboards, we had to keep the dishes in the bedroom.

There are some lamentable choices made here: why turn a three bedroom into a one bedroom apartment full of wasted space? Why would you need privacy in the lounge (using a fussy mechanism like the blue curtain) in a one-bedroom apartment where at the most a couple would live? The dining area is big enough for a living space for a two bedroom apartment. The bookcases don't look less cluttered. The pops of colour are interesting -- although the curtain behind the mini bar looks like an alcove in funeral home.

There's a thumping big blue curtain unnecessarily placed in the centre of the apartment for some bizarre reason. But if they’d kept a second bedroom/study, there still would have been space for a living/dining room opposite the kitchen while still maintaining the value of a two bedroom apartment. And I probably wouldn’t call that a “walk-in” wardrobe.

  • @TeeBoyd88

The carpet's gradient colour from grey to blue was very smart. It flows from the grey lounge suite to the blue curtain behind the blue bar cabinet. Matching the curve of the curtain's flow is the curve of the carpet itself. The full length of the curtain can then be stored compactly around the bar cabinet with a vase of flowers like a feature in a gallery! Small but genius details like these truly shows the care taken to merge modern living with the age of the inherited apartment. So happy the original flooring was retained. A pleasure to watch again & again.

If I was ever ambivalent about a design before, this one trumps it. I honestly don't know if I like it or not. It's at once coolly elegant and jarring. I actually love the blue curtains becoming an actual feature by decorating the plinth but at the same time I find that space wasted and excessive and the living room curtained off as annoying. All the zigzags rub me the wrong way but I find the otherwise simplicity and purity of the design soothing and very pleasing. I love the colors except the yellow. It's a very Jekyll/Hyde experience for me.
That said, I am very well aware all my problems have nothing to do with anything being objectively wrong or ugly in the design. It's because my taste does not match the client's, so while I personally wouldn't live in this apartment, there are so many things I would steal to have done in my place. Especially the colors, I can feel myself relaxing just thinking of those colors.

It's one of the most unique apartments I have seen in recent years. The unique use of warm colours (that seems to need fixing) creates a fantastic balance between energetic and calm energy. I encountered a lot of feelings while looking at the video. I'll definitely keep this apartment in mind in my future designs. Many thanks for bringing this content!!!

So many creative design features to enhance the space of this small unit. I agree, the original front door is a work of art! I love how the table slides neatly into the colorful niche as a work space. Very clever. The curtains were a nice touch but I would probably not use them unless guest wanted more privacy. It’s an interesting idea though. A very nice home in a beautiful city!

almost 60sm, wich is not that small specially if you have only one bedroom, and you make that kitchen? small like that? not even a proper dining table? It's veery beautiful tho, love the colors

the blue curtain is genius, and the alcove that it's stored in makes a showcase in and of itself. the front door is really stunning and so Andalucian antiquey! so appealing in color and the table and niche are well thought out for dual purposes. so much storage and enviable cozy bedroom with headboard and lights. having travelled to Spain many times for flamenco dance classes, i'd have loved to have rented a spot like this. and if i had to move from a house, this would be my choice/style of apartment. me encanta todo!

I have very mixed feelings about this one. I love the kitchen/utility area, both functionally and aesthetically, and the overall allocation of space is impressive and feels generous. But I can’t stand the terrible curtains! Even the one in the bedroom would drive me nuts - I just want a door, not an awkward hanging curtain that has to be yanked and dragged away. And the living room one is awful - I would never use it. Curious why they chose a TV that took up precious floor space rather than wall mounting. Not keen on the angled shelves either - awkward/unhelpful to use and view/search for anything and the look is ugly. Hate the light over the desk - can you imagine how that would glare in your eyes when it is in the dining mode (pointing at the centre of the room)? And direct overhead light is no use for writing at a desk. Just have a proper, focussed light for the dining position, and proper desk lights (in the wall) for the desk/working position. Bed headboard looks like a 70s giant speaker system. Plus reading lights not adjustable.

I LOVE this apartment so much. I have a few collections of things along with a large amount of books and my home always seems cluttered, which I do not like. Having the book shelf designed to be so discreet and having so much hidden storage means no clutter but you can still keep those things that are special to you and swap them out to display whenever you want to keep things from getting boring. I also loved the pops of colour, which did surprise me along with the material used to achieve the look. One of the best small spaces I have seen on here. Truly amazing. A huge thumbs up from me. I want to move right it.
