Arcade1Up Killer Instinct Review! Once considered to be impossible, Arcade1Up and Code Mystics teamed up to make a 3/4 scale at home arcade version of Killer Instinct a reality. I never really had much history with Killer Instinct in the Arcades growing up so I wasn't sure if this was a necessary add to my GenieCade. Luckily my good friend Mike Dalton was king enough to lend me his so I could do this review. Find out If I think the cabinet lived up to the lofty expectations of fans and if you should consider adding it to your game room or home arcade. Also find out if it won me over enough that I added it to mine.

Fantastic review! I purchased the Killer Instinct arcade cabinet not knowing that it would be my 11-year-old daughter's and my favorite out of the 15 arcade cabinets I own. It is a absolute blast to play 😎🤘

Great review - cab looks awesome and the gameplay smooth. Love the soundtrack to these games as well. Lots of great memories playing the fighting game trifecta at my local arcade - Mortal Kombat 3, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and Killer Instinct.
Awesome! Glad you were able to work out a deal to keep the KI cab. I've got the 3/4 scale cab en route. Had to pounce on it when the 400 dollar off deal rolled through my inbox from A1up. That sword wielding skellybob just looks so sweet on the side panel. :)

Great review! From a form factor and look perspective, this is my favorite A1Up cab that I own!
Great review sir! Succinct and respectful as always. 🤘Congrats on the trade, I really enjoy this cab in my arcade also. (once the power bugs got worked out of course) I've been inside the control panel to swap in some better parts and the sticks that are in there are different from the usual ones we'd find. They do feel a bit better/tighter. The use of circle gates helps too. I wonder how much variation there is in the marquee wash out? Mine was horrendous. 😆I swapped in an acrylic replacement from Szabo's Arcades and it really pops now! Highly recommended if anyone is looking to upgrade, and reasonably priced to boot.

Glad to know about the CRT and scan lines settings. I just built my KI and the graphics suck. Hoping the CRT filter makes it look better tomorrow

I loved playing this at the arcade in the 90'. Good times. This one is a little small and the spacing for two players is really close. Always hated those.

Do you know the logistics behind when and where the pro version will be available for purchase in Canada?
I was told The Brick would be carrying it, I don't anticipate hearing anything more about a pre order date for direct or at retail here in Canada before June
Michael, is the monitor in the non pro KI BOE 4:3? Because the new wi fi MK coming out has a 5:4 17” monitor like the gen 1’s. They are cheaping out with the monitors on newer cabs this year it seems like. What is so bad about the new Golden Tee monitor?

On this cabinet, I tried KI 2ce for about 10 min, KI2 1ce for 1 min, battle todes arcade 1ce for 1 min and snes battle toads never. I did however spend over 3 hours on battle toads nes. That one brings back memories since I never had the quarters to play the arcade version. I never made it past level 2 that is like earthworm jims snot a problem level. Love that game.
Couldn't wait so I went with the vanilla KI at launch. Based on the reviews of the Golden Tee 3D monitor that might have been the best choice. Upgrading controls, easy. Upgrading the monitor, not so much.
The only product that would excite me, is if Arcade1Up makes a pro virtual pinball machine. With larger play field, more solid feeling controls, and better marquee
Killer instinct definitely was a buy for me growing up playing it in the arcade I had to have it but I’m Sticking with 3/4 scale version especially with what I’ve been hearing about Golden tee 3-D

Lol as someone who played this game silly, it's hilarious to see the moves you use on the joystick. Because I know orchids moves and those do nothing lol.
But I definitely want this, as the actual arcade is like 4k.

Battletoads . For me that’s a top 3 beat em up that could have been it’s own cab
And a toad is actually a playable character in k1 2013 . It think it’s Rash

Great review. I wonder if a circular polarizer (anti-glare filter) on your camera would improve game capture.
How do I properly stack arcade1up cabinets new in box?
Is it ok to stack them up on top of each other in storage?

Geeze, if it has a permanent home in The Genie-cade, it's gotta be worth it. Maybe for Christmas. I just bought 4 within the last 6 weeks. Wife thinks I am crazy.

Does anyone know if there is cut content from the game? I thought i heard they removed some fatalities, maybe orchids?
I was ready to make this my first Arcade1Up full arcade purchase, but that price point is absolutely ridiculous. $700 USD for this is way too much, especially since all these games are available for Rare Replay for about $10 used. I'm sticking with that and will see how the Pro cab looks but I don't have high hopes. This was a rock solid review though. Really in depth and you answered all my questions. Bravo, Burger Boy!

KI Classic, KI2, OG Battletoads and Battletoads Arcade
Got the OG KI Classic and KI2 during the heydays of KI 2013, and OG Battletoads and Battletoads Arcade I got through Rare Replay
KI is one of the best fighting games out there and it deserves a whole lot of love, I do hope for the sequel for KI 2013
Battletoads 2020 is a dumpster fire, that puts the entire Battletoads franchise into shame for its shitty graphics, lame jokes, and everything all of the above

I would be fine with including a console game on an arcade cab…if the arcade release was Splatterhouse and they included the Genesis sequels. So I’m fine with this

Feels more original with the Nintendo logo on it.
Save yourself a ton of money and get the snes version, the graphics are not as good as the arcade but all the gameplay and characters are there.
